1 Então, Jó respondeu, dizendo: 2 "Sem dúvida, vós sois o povo; a sabedoria morrerá convosco. 3 Mas eu tenho entendimento tanto quanto vós; eu não sou inferior a vós. Na verdade, quem não sabe coisas como estas?

1 Then Job answered and said, 2 "No doubt you are the people; wisdom will die with you. 3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Indeed, who does not know such things as these?

4 Eu sou motivo de riso para o meu próximo. Eu, aquele que chamou Deus e foi respondido por Ele! Eu, um justo e inocente; sou agora motivo de riso. 5 No pensamento de quem está tranquilo, há desprezo pela calamidade; um empurrão para aqueles cujos os pés estão escorregando. 6 As tendas dos bandidos prosperam e aqueles que provocam a Deus sentem-se seguros; as suas próprias mãos são os seus deuses.

4 I am something for my neighbor to laugh at— I, one who called on God and who was answered by him! I, a just and blameless man—I am now something to laugh at. 5 In the thought of someone who is at ease, there is contempt for misfortune; he thinks in a way that brings more misfortune to those whose foot is slipping. 6 The tents of robbers prosper, and those who provoke God feel secure; their own hands are their gods.

7 Mas agora pergunta aos animais e eles te ensinarão; pergunta às aves dos céus e elas te contarão. 8 Ou fale para a Terra e ela te ensinará; os peixes do mar irão declarar-te isto.

7 But now ask the animals, and they will teach you; ask the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you. 8 Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; the fish of the sea will declare to you.

9 Qual animal entre todos estes não sabe que a mão de Yahweh fez isto? 10 Em Sua mão, está a vida de todo ser vivo e o fôlego de toda humanidade.

9 Which animal among all these does not know that the hand of Yahweh has done this? 10 In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.

11 O ouvido não examina as palavras como o paladar prova a comida? 12 Com os homens velhos, há sabedoria; com o passar dos dias, há entendimento.

11 Does not the ear test words just as the palate tastes its food? 12 With aged men is wisdom; in length of days is understanding.

13 Com Deus, estão a sabedoria e o poder; Ele tem conselho e entendimento. 14 Vê, Ele destrói algo e aquilo não pode ser construído novamente; se Ele aprisiona alguém, não pode ser liberto. 15 Vê, se Ele retém as águas, elas se secam; e, se Ele as solta, elas inundam a terra.

13 With God are wisdom and might; he has counsel and understanding. 14 See, he tears down, and it cannot be built again; if he imprisons someone, there can be no release. 15 See, if he withholds the waters, they dry up; and if he sends them out, they overwhelm the land.

16 Com Ele, estão a força e a sabedoria; as pessoas que são enganadas e o enganador, ambas pertencem a Ele. 17 Ele conduz os conselheiros para longe, entristecidos, com os pés descalços; Ele torna juízes em tolos. 18 Ele toma a autoridade dos reis; Ele enrola um pano nas cinturas deles.

16 With him are strength and wisdom; people who are deceived and the deceiver are both in his power. 17 He leads counselors away barefoot in sorrow; he turns judges into fools. 18 He removes the bond of kings; he wraps a cloth about their waists.

19 Ele conduz os sacerdotes para longe, entristecidos, com os pés descalços e derruba pessoas poderosas. 20 Ele remove o discurso daqueles que são confiados a falar e tira o entendimento dos anciãos. 21 Ele derrama desprezo sobre os príncipes e afrouxa o cinto dos poderosos.

19 He leads priests away barefoot in sorrow and overthrows mighty people. 20 He removes the speech of those who had been trusted and takes away the understanding of the elders. 21 He pours contempt upon princes and unfastens the belt of the strong.

22 Ele revela coisas profundas da escuridão e traz à luz as sombras de onde as pessoas estão mortas. 23 Ele faz nações fortes e Ele também as destrói; Ele faz crescer nações e Ele também as faz prisioneiras.

22 He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings utter darkness into the light. 23 He makes nations strong, and he also destroys them; He enlarges nations, and he also leads them along as prisoners.

24 Ele tira o entendimento dos líderes do povo da Terra; e os faz vaguear por um deserto, onde não existe caminho. 25 Eles apalpam no escuro, sem luz, e Ele os faz cambalear como um bêbado.

24 He takes away understanding from the leaders of the people of the earth; he causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no path. 25 They grope in the dark without light; he makes them stagger like a drunk man.
