1 Provérbios de Salomão, filho de Davi, rei de Israel. 2 Estes provérbios são para ensinar a sabedoria e a instrução, para ensinar palavras de entendimento, 3 para que recebas correção, de forma que faças o que é direito, justo e correto.

1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, the king of Israel. 2 These proverbs are to teach wisdom and instruction, to teach words of insight, 3 that you may receive instruction in prudent behavior, righteousness, justice, and uprightness.

4 Estes provérbios também são para dar sabedoria aos simples, entendimento e prudência aos jovens. 5 Para que os sábios ouçam e aumentem seu aprendizado, e para que as pessoas com discernimento sejam guiadas, 6 para que entendam os provérbios, os dizeres e as palavras dos sábios, e seus enigmas.

4 These proverbs are also to give wisdom to the naive, and to give knowledge and discretion to the youth. 5 Let wise people listen and increase their learning, and let discerning people get wise counsel, 6 to understand proverbs, parables, and words of wise people and their riddles.

7 O temor de Yahweh é o princípio do conhecimento, mas os tolos desprezam a sabedoria e a disciplina. 8 Meu filho, ouve o ensino de teu pai e não desprezes a instrução de tua mãe; 9 eles serão como uma coroa graciosa para a tua cabeça e colares para o teu pescoço.

7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge— fools despise wisdom and instruction. 8 My son, hear the instruction of your father and do not forsake the rules of your mother; 9 they will be a graceful wreath for your head and pendants hanging from your neck.

10 Meu filho, se pecadores tentarem te persuadir a pecar junto com eles, recusa-te a segui-los. 11 Se disserem: "Vem conosco! Armemos uma emboscada para matar alguém; fiquemos escondidos e ataquemos um inocente.

10 My son, if sinners try to entice you into their sin, do not go with them. 11 If they say, "Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us hide and attack innocent people for no reason;

12 Vamos tragá-lo vivo, como a sepultura engole aqueles que estão saudáveis, como os que descem à cova. 13 Encontraremos todo tipo de coisas valiosas, encheremos nossas casas com o que roubamos de outros. 14 Vem conosco! Teremos tudo em comum".

12 let us swallow them up alive, like Sheol takes away those who are healthy, and make them like those who go down into the pit; 13 we will find all kinds of valuable things; we will fill our houses with plunder; 14 throw in your lot with us, and we will all have one purse together"—

15 Meu filho, não andes neste caminho com eles, nem deixes teu pé tocar por onde eles passam; 16 Pois seus pés correm para o mal e eles se apressam em derramar sangue. 17 É inútil armar uma rede para pegar um pássaro enquanto o pássaro está atento.

15 my son, do not walk down that path with them; do not let your foot touch where they walk; 16 their feet run to evil and they hurry to shed blood. 17 For it is useless to spread the net in the sight of any bird.

18 Esses homens, que ficam à espreita para se matarem, armam armadilhas para eles mesmos. 19 Assim são os caminhos de todo aquele que se enriquece com injustiça; o ganho injusto tira a vida daqueles que o buscam.

18 These men lie in wait for their own blood— they set an ambush for their own lives. 19 So are the ways of everyone who gains profit by violence; unjust gain takes away the lives of those who hold on to it.

20 A sabedoria clama intensamente nas ruas e levanta a sua voz nas praças; 21 nas esquinas tumultuadas, ela brada; nos portões da entrada da cidade, ela proclama: 22 "Até quando, vós que não possuís sabedoria, continuareis a amar a tolice? Até quando, vós zombadores, vos deleitareis na zombaria, e até quando, vós tolos, odiareis o conhecimento?

20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the open places; 21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, at the entrance of the city gates she speaks her sayings, 22 "How long, you naive people, will you love being naive? How long, you mockers, will you delight in mockery, and how long, you fools, will you hate knowledge?

23 Prestai atenção na minha repreensão; Eu vos derramarei meus pensamentos e vos revelarei as minhas palavras. 24 Chamei, mas recusastes a me ouvir; estendi a minha mão e ninguém prestou atenção. 25 Ignorastes toda a minha instrução e desconsiderastes a minha repreensão.

23 Turn at my correction; I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you. 24 I have called, and you have refused to listen; I reached out with my hand, but there was no one who paid attention. 25 But you have ignored all my instruction and paid no attention to my correction.

26 Rirei na vossa calamidade, zombarei de vós quando o terror vier, 27 quando o pavor vier como uma tempestade e o desastre varrer como um redemoinho, então, a angústia e a aflição cairão sobre vós.

26 I will laugh at your calamity, I will mock you when the terror comes— 27 when your fearful dread comes like a storm and disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.

28 Clamareis a mim, e não responderei; Vós me procurareis desesperadamente, mas não me achareis. 29 Pois odiastes o conhecimento e não escolhestes o temor de Yahweh. 30 Não seguistes meus conselhos e desprezastes toda a minha repreensão.

28 Then they will call upon me, and I will not answer; they will diligently seek me, but they will not find me. 29 Because they hate knowledge and did not choose the fear of Yahweh, 30 they would not follow my instruction, and they despised all my correction.

31 Comereis o fruto dos vossos caminhos e, com o fruto das vossas intrigas, vos enchereis. 32 Pois os ingênuos são mortos quando se desviam, e a prosperidade dos tolos os destruirá. 33 Mas aquele que ouvir a mim viverá em segurança e descansará tranquilo, sem temer o mal".

31 They will eat the fruit of their ways, and with the fruit of their schemes they will be filled. 32 For the naive are killed when they turn away, and the indifference of fools will destroy them. 33 But whoever listens to me will dwell in safety and will rest secure with no fear of disaster."
