1 Visão de Obadias. Assim diz o Senhor Yahweh a respeito de Edom: "Temos ouvido uma mensagem de Yahweh, e um mensageiro foi enviado entre as nações, dizendo: 'Levantai-vos! Levantemo-nos contra ele para a batalha!' 2 Eis que te farei pequeno entre as nações. Serás grandemente desprezado.

1 The vision of Obadiah. The Lord Yahweh says this concerning Edom: We have heard a report from Yahweh and an ambassador has been sent among the nations, saying, "Rise up! Let us rise up against her for battle!" 2 Behold, I will make you small among the nations; you will be greatly despised.

3 O orgulho do teu coração te enganou, tu que habitas nas fendas das rochas, em tua alta morada; que dizes em teu coração: 'Quem poderá me derrubar na terra?' 4 Ainda que faças tua torre alta como a da águia, e ainda que faças o teu ninho entre as estrelas, Eu te derrubarei de lá", diz Yahweh.

3 The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rock, in your lofty home; who say in your heart, "Who will bring me down to the ground?" 4 Though you soar high like the eagle and though your nest is set among the stars, I will bring you down from there—this is Yahweh's declaration.

5 "Se ladrões viessem a ti ou assaltantes pela noite (como estás destruído!), não roubariam só o necessário? Se colhedores de uvas viessem a ti, eles não deixariam cachos? 6 Esaú foi saqueado, teus tesouros escondidos, levados embora!

5 If thieves came to you, if robbers came by night—how you will be ruined!—would they not steal only as much as they needed? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave the gleanings? 6 How Esau had been ransacked, his hidden treasures looted!

7 Todos os teus aliados te levarão para fora do teu território. Os homens que estão em paz contigo te enganaram, e prevaleceram contra ti. Os que comem o teu pão colocaram uma armadilha debaixo de ti. Não há entendimento neles". 8 "Não irei naquele dia", diz Yahweh, "que destruirei os sábios de Edom, e tirarei o entendimento do monte de Esaú? 9 Teus homens poderosos serão destruídos, ó Temã; então todo homem será exterminado do monte de Esaú pela matança.

7 All the men of your alliance will send you on your way to the border. The men who were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you. They who eat your bread have set a trap under you. There is no understanding in him. 8 "Will I not on that day"—this is Yahweh's declaration—"destroy the wise men from Edom and understanding out of the mountain of Esau? 9 Your mighty men will be dismayed, Teman, so that every man may be cut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.

10 Por causa da violência feita a teu irmão Jacó, serás coberto de vergonha e serás exterminado para sempre. 11 No dia em que estiveste distante, no dia em que inimigos levaram sua riqueza, e estrangeiros entraram por suas portas, e lançaram sortes sobre Jerusalém, eras como um deles.

10 Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame, and you will be cut off forever. 11 On the day you stood aloof, on the day strangers carried away his wealth, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them.

12 Mas não devias olhar com prazer o dia do teu irmão, o dia de sua desgraça e nem alegrar-te sobre o povo de Judá no dia de sua destruição. Não sejas insolente no dia do seu sofrimento. 13 Não entres pela porta do Meu povo no dia da sua calamidade; não olhes para sua aflição no dia do seu desastre, não lances mão dos seus bens no dia de sua ruína. 14 Não fiques nas encruzilhadas para matar seus fugitivos. Não ponhas tua mão sobre os seus sobreviventes no dia da angústia.

12 But do not gloat over your brother's day, in the day of his misfortune, and do not rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction; do not boast in the day of their distress. 13 Do not enter my people's gate in the day of their calamity; do not gloat over their affliction in the day of their disaster, do not loot their wealth in the day of their ruin. 14 Do not stand at the crossroads to cut down his fugitives, and do not deliver up his survivors in the day of distress.

15 O dia do Senhor Yahweh virá breve sobre todas as nações. Como tens feito, assim será feito a ti; as tuas ações se voltarão contra tua própria cabeça. 16 Assim como bebeste no Meu Santo Monte, também todas as nações beberão continuamente. Elas beberão e engolirão, e serão como se nunca tivessem existido.

15 For the day of Yahweh is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return on your own head. 16 For as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so will all the nations drink continually. They will drink and swallow and it will be as though they had never existed.

17 Mas no Monte Sião estarão aqueles que escaparem, e ele será santo; e a casa de Jacó possuirá suas próprias heranças. 18 A casa de Jacó será fogo, e a casa de José uma labareda, e a casa de Esaú como palha seca, e eles irão queimá-los e consumi-los. Não haverá sobreviventes da casa de Esaú", Yahweh o disse.

17 But in Mount Zion there will be those who escape, and it will be holy, and the house of Jacob will take possession of their possessions. 18 The house of Jacob will be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau will be stubble, and they will burn them, and consume them. There will be no survivors to the house of Esau, for Yahweh has spoken it."

19 "E aqueles que são do Neguebe possuirão a montanha de Esaú, e os da planície de Sepelá possuirão as terras dos filisteus; e eles possuirão a terra de Efraim, e a terra de Samaria; e Benjamim possuirá Gileade.

19 People from the Negev will possess the mountain of Esau and the people of the lowlands will possess the land of the Philistines. They will possess the land of Ephraim and the land of Samaria, and Benjamin will possess Gilead.

20 Os exilados do exército do povo de Israel possuirão a terra de Canaã até Sarepta. Os exilados de Jerusalém, que estão em Sefarade, possuirão as cidades de Neguebe. 21 Os libertadores subirão para o monte Sião para julgarem o monte de Esaú, e o reino será de Yahweh" [Nota: Em vez de "libertadores", muitas versões modernas seguem alguns antigos intérpretes, trazendo "aqueles que serão libertos"].

20 The exiles of this army of the people of Israel will possess the land of Canaan as far as Zarephath. The exiles of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, will possess the cities of the Negev. 21 Deliverers will go up to Mount Zion to rule over the hill country of Esau, and the kingdom will belong to Yahweh.
