1 Quando Raquel viu que não dava nenhum filho a Jacó, ela sentiu inveja de sua irmã e disse a Jacó: "Dá-me filhos, senão morrerei". 2 A raiva de Jacó acendeu-se contra Raquel. Ele disse: "Por acaso estou eu no lugar de Deus, que te impediu de gerar filhos?"

1 When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister. She said to Jacob, "Give me children, or I will die." 2 Jacob's anger burned against Rachel. He said, "Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?"

3 Ela disse: "Veja, aqui está a minha escrava Bila. Tenha relações com ela, para que dê à luz e traga filhos ao meu colo, por meio dela". 4 Assim lhe deu sua escrava Bila por mulher, e Jacó teve relações com ela.

3 She said, "See, there is my servant Bilhah. Go to her, so she might give birth to children on my knees, and I will have children by her." 4 So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife, and Jacob went to her.

5 Bila concebeu e deu a Jacó um filho. 6 Então Raquel disse: "Deus me fez justiça, ouviu a minha voz e deu-me um filho". Por isso o chamou de Dã.

5 Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son. 6 Then Rachel said, "God has vindicated me, and he has heard my voice and given me a son." For this reason she called his name Dan.

7 Bila, escrava de Raquel, concebeu novamente e deu a Jacó o segundo filho. 8 Raquel disse: "Tive grandes lutas com minha irmã e venci". Pelo que o chamou Naftali.

7 Bilhah, Rachel's servant, conceived again and bore Jacob a second son. 8 Rachel said, "With mighty wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister and have prevailed." She called his name Naphtali.

9 Quando Lia percebeu que havia parado de ter filhos, tomou Zilpa, sua escrava, e deu-a a Jacó por mulher. 10 Zilpa, serva de Lia, deu a Jacó um filho. 11 Então Lia disse: "Afortunada!" E o chamou Gade.

9 When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took Zilpah, her servant, and gave her to Jacob as a wife. 10 Zilpah, Leah's servant, bore Jacob a son. 11 Leah said, "This is fortunate!" so she called his name Gad.

12 Depois Zilpa, serva de Lia, deu o segundo filho a Jacó. 13 Lia disse: "Como sou feliz! As filhas me chamarão de feliz." Então ela o chamou Aser.

12 Then Zilpah, Leah's servant, bore Jacob a second son. 13 Leah said, "I am happy! For the daughters will call me happy." So she called his name Asher.

14 Nos dias da colheita do trigo, Rúben foi ao campo e achou mandrágoras. Ele as trouxe para Lia, sua mãe . Então Raquel disse a Lia: "Dá-me algumas das mandrágoras do teu filho". 15 Lia disse-lhe: "Acaso é pouco que tu tenhas tomado o meu marido? Queres também tomar as mandrágoras do meu filho?" E disse Raquel: "Jacó se deitará contigo esta noite em troca das mandrágoras de teu filho".

14 Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest and found mandrakes in the field. He brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, "Give me some of your son's mandrakes." 15 Leah said to her, "Is it a small matter to you, that you have taken away my husband? Do you now want to take away my son's mandrakes, too?" Rachel said, "Then he will lie with you tonight, in exchange for your son's mandrakes."

16 Jacó voltou do campo à tarde. Lia foi ao seu encontro e disse: "Irás unir-te a mim esta noite, porque eu te aluguei em troca das mandrágoras do meu filho". Então Jacó deitou-se com Lia naquela noite. 17 Deus escutou Lia e ela concebeu e deu a Jacó o quinto filho. 18 Lia disse: "Deus me recompensou, pois dei minha escrava a meu marido". Ela o chamou Issacar.

16 Jacob came from the field in the evening. Leah went out to meet him and said, "You must come to me, for I have hired you with my son's mandrakes." So Jacob lay with Leah that night. 17 God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son. 18 Leah said, "God has given me my wages, because I gave my servant woman to my husband." She called his name Issachar.

19 Lia concebeu outra vez e deu o sexto filho a Jacó. 20 E disse: "Deus me deu um bom presente. Agora o meu marido me honrará, pois lhe dei seis filhos". Ela o chamou Zebulom. 21 Depois, deu à luz uma filha e a chamou Diná.

19 Leah conceived again and bore a sixth son to Jacob. 20 Leah said, "God has given me a good gift. Now my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons." She called his name Zebulun. 21 Afterwards she bore a daughter and called her name Dinah.

22 Lembrou-se Deus de Raquel. Ele a ouviu e a tornou fecunda. 23 Ela concebeu e deu à luz um filho e disse: "Deus retirou a minha vergonha". 24 Ela o chamou José, dizendo: "Que Yahweh acrescente-me outro filho".

22 God called Rachel to mind and listened to her. He caused her to become pregnant. 23 She conceived and bore a son. She said, "God has taken away my shame." 24 She called his name Joseph, saying, "Yahweh has added to me another son."

25 Depois que Raquel deu à luz a José, Jacó disse a Labão: "Mande-me embora, para que eu volte para minha casa e para minha terra. 26 Dá-me minhas mulheres e meus filhos, pelos quais eu te servi e deixe-me ir, pois sabes o serviço que te prestei".

25 After Rachel had borne Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, "Send me away, so that I may go to my own home and to my country. 26 Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go, for you know the service I have given you."

27 Labão disse-lhe: "Se tenho achado favor aos teus olhos, espere, pois eu soube por meio de adivinhações que Yahweh me abençoou por causa de ti". 28 Então ele disse: "Estipula o teu salário e eu te pagarei".

27 Laban said to him, "If now I have found favor in your eyes, wait, because I have learned by using divination that Yahweh has blessed me for your sake." 28 Then he said, "Name your wages, and I will pay them."

29 Jacó disse-lhe: "Tu sabes de que maneira te servi e como cuidei do teu rebanho. 30 Porque tu tinhas pouco antes da minha vinda, mas depois aumentou grandemente. Yahweh te abençoou por onde trabalhei. Agora, quando trabalharei também por minha casa?"

29 Jacob said to him, "You know how I have served you, and how your livestock have fared with me. 30 For you had little before I came, and it has increased abundantly. Yahweh has blessed you wherever I worked. Now when will I provide for my own household also?"

31 Então Labão disse: "O que te darei? Jacó disse: "Tu não me darás nada. Voltarei a apascentar e a guardar o teu rebanho se fizeres isto por mim: 32 Deixa-me passar por todo o teu rebanho hoje, separando dele todos os cabritos manchados e os malhados; e todos os negros entre os cordeiros; e as manchadas e malhadas entre as cabras. Este será o meu salário.

31 So Laban said, "What will I pay you?" Jacob said, "You will not give me anything. If you will do this thing for me, I will again feed your flock and keep it. 32 Let me walk through all your flock today, removing from it every speckled and spotted sheep, and every black one among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats. These will be my wages.

33 Minha integridade vai atestar por mim, quando mais tarde verificares o meu salário. Tudo o que não for manchado e malhado entre as cabras, e negro entre os cordeiros; se for achado comigo, será considerado furtado". 34 Labão disse: "Está bem. Que seja de acordo com a tua palavra".

33 My integrity will testify for me later on, when you come to check on my wages. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, if any are found with me, will be considered to be stolen." 34 Laban said, "Agreed. Let it be according to your word."

35 Naquele dia Labão separou os bodes listrados e malhados, e todas as cabras manchadas e malhadas, todas que tinham algum branco e todos os negros entre os cordeiros e deu-os nas mãos dos seus filhos. 36 Labão pôs três dias de caminhada entre ele e Jacó. E Jacó continuou apascentando o restante dos rebanhos de Labão.

35 That day Laban removed the male goats that were striped and spotted, and all the female goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons. 36 Laban also put three days' journey between himself and Jacob. So Jacob kept tending the rest of Laban's flocks.

37 Jacó tomou varas verdes de estoraque, de amendoeira e de plátano. Descascando-as, fez nelas riscas brancas, fazendo aparecer o branco que nelas havia. 38 Então ele pôs as varas que havia descascado em frente aos rebanhos, nos bebedouros onde bebiam. E eles acasalavam quando vinham beber.

37 Jacob took fresh cut branches of fresh poplar, and of the almond and of the plane tree, and peeled white streaks in them, and made the white inner wood appear that was in the sticks. 38 Then he set the sticks that he had peeled in front of the flocks, in front of the watering troughs where they came to drink. They conceived when they came to drink.

39 Os rebanhos acasalavam diante das varas e os rebanhos davam crias listradas, manchadas e malhadas. 40 Jacó separou os cordeiros e pôs o rebanho para o lado dos listrados e dos negros no rebanho de Labão. Então ele separou seu rebanho para si e não o colocou com o rebanho de Labão.

39 The flocks bred in front of the sticks; and the flocks produced striped, speckled, and spotted young. 40 Jacob separated out these lambs, but made the rest of them face toward the striped animals and all the black sheep in the flock of Laban. Then he separated out his flocks for himself alone and did not put them together with Laban's flocks.

41 Todas as vezes que os mais fortes do rebanho acasalavam, Jacó colocava as varas nos bebedouros diante dos olhos do rebanho, para que acasalassem diante das varas. 42 Mas quando os mais fracos do rebanho vinham, ele não colocava as varas na frente deles. Assim os fracos eram de Labão e os fortes eram de Jacó.

41 Whenever the stronger sheep in the flock were breeding, then Jacob would lay the sticks in the watering troughs before the eyes of the flock, so that they might conceive among the sticks. 42 But when the feebler animals in the flock came, he did not put the sticks in front of them. So the feebler animals were Laban's, and the stronger were Jacob's.

43 O homem se tornou muito próspero. Ele tinha grandes rebanhos, escravas e escravos, camelos e jumentos.

43 The man became very prosperous. He had large flocks, female servants and male servants, and camels and donkeys.
