1 Ora, a serpente era mais astuta que qualquer outro animal que Yahweh Deus criou. E ela perguntou à mulher: "Deus realmente disse: 'Vós não devereis comer de nenhuma árvore do jardim?'". 2 A mulher disse para a serpente: "Podemos comer do fruto das árvores do jardim, 3 mas não podemos comer o fruto da árvore que está no meio do jardim; pois Deus disse: 'Não deveis comer dele, não deveis tocar nele, senão morrereis'".

1 Now the serpent was more shrewd than any other beast of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, "Has God really said, 'You must not eat from any tree of the garden'?" 2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit from the trees of the garden, 3 but concerning the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God said, 'You may not eat it, nor may you touch it, or you will die.'"

4 A serpente disse para a mulher: "Certamente, não morrereis, 5 porque Deus sabe que, no dia em que dele comerdes, vossos olhos se abrirão, e sereis como Deus, conhecendo o bem e o mal". 6 Quando a mulher viu que aquela árvore era boa para comer, agradável aos olhos e desejável para dar conhecimento, pegou o fruto, comeu-o e o deu ao seu marido, e ele comeu.

4 The serpent said to the woman, "You will surely not die. 5 For God knows that the day you eat it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate it. Then she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.

7 Os olhos dos dois se abriram e eles perceberam que estavam nus; costuraram folhas de figueira e fizeram vestimentas para si. 8 Eles ouviram a voz de Yahweh Deus, que estava caminhando pelo jardim no frescor do dia. Então o homem e sua mulher esconderam-se da presença de Yahweh Deus entre as árvores do jardim.

7 The eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. 8 They heard the sound of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, so the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.

9 Yahweh Deus chamou o homem e lhe disse: "Onde tu estás?". 10 E o homem disse: "Ouvi a Tua voz no jardim e fiquei com medo, porque eu estava nu; então me escondi". 11 Deus disse: "Quem te disse que estavas nu? Comeste da árvore que Eu disse que não deverias comer?".

9 Yahweh God called to the man and said to him, "Where are you?" 10 The man said, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked. So I hid myself." 11 God said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"

12 O homem respondeu: "A mulher que Tu me deste, deu-me do fruto da árvore, e eu comi". 13 Yahweh Deus disse para a mulher: "Que fizeste?" A mulher respondeu: "A serpente me enganou, e eu comi".

12 The man said, "The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it." 13 Yahweh God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent lied to me, and I ate."\m

14 Yahweh Deus disse à serpente: "Porque fizeste isso, tu serás maldita entre todos os animais domésticos e todos os animais selvagens. Rastejarás sobre teu ventre e comerás poeira pelo resto da tua vida. 15 Porei inimizade entre ti e a mulher, e entre teu descendente e o descendente dela; Este ferirá tua cabeça, e tu ferirás Seu calcanhar".

14 Yahweh God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you alone among all the livestock and all the beasts of the field. It is on your stomach that you will go, and it is dust that you will eat all the days of your life. 15 I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel."\m

16 E à mulher disse: "Multiplicarei grandemente tua dor ao dar à luz; é na dor que tu irás ter filhos. Teu desejo será para teu marido, mas ele governará sobre ti".

16 To the woman he said, "I will greatly multiply your pain in having children; it is in pain that you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, but he will rule over you."\m

17 E ao homem disse: "Porque ouviste a voz da tua mulher e comeste do fruto da árvore que te ordenei, dizendo: 'Não comerás dela', a terra será amaldiçoada por tua causa, trabalharás duramente para poder comer dela, todos os dias de tua vida. 18 Ela produzirá espinhos e ervas daninhas, e tu comerás das plantas do campo. 19 Do suor da tua face comerás o pão, até retornares à terra de onde tu foste tirado. Porque tu és pó, e ao pó retornarás'".

17 To Adam he said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree, concerning which I commanded you, saying, 'You may not eat from it,' cursed is the ground because of you; through painful work you will eat from it all the days of your life. 18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face you will eat bread, until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are, and to dust you will return."\m

20 O homem chamou a sua mulher de Eva, porque ela era a mãe de todos os seres vivos. 21 Yahweh Deus fez vestimentas de peles para Adão, e sua esposa e os vestiu.

20 The man called his wife's name Eve because she was the mother of all the living. 21 Yahweh God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.

22 Yahweh Deus disse: "Agora o homem tornou-se como um de nós, conhecendo o bem e o mal. Não permitirei que ele tome da árvore da vida e dela coma e viva para sempre". 23 Por isso Yahweh Deus o lançou fora do jardim do Éden, para cultivar a terra da qual foi tirado. 24 Então Deus expulsou o homem, pôs os querubins a leste do jardim do Éden e uma espada flamejante que se revolvia por todos os lados, a fim de proteger o caminho da árvore da vida.

22 Yahweh God said, "Now the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. So now he must not be allowed to reach out with his hand, take from the tree of life, eat it, and live forever." 23 Therefore Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he had been taken. 24 So God drove the man out of the garden, and he placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword that turned every way, in order to guard the way to the tree of life.
