1 Houve grande fome na terra, além da primeira, ocorrida nos dias de Abraão. Por isso Isaque foi até Abimeleque, rei dos filisteus, em Gerar.

1 Now a famine happened in the land, besides the first famine that had been in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelek, king of the Philistines at Gerar.

2 E Yahweh apareceu-lhe e disse: "Não desças até o Egito, habite na terra que Eu te mostrarei. 3 Permanece nesta mesma terra, e Eu serei contigo e te abençoarei; pois darei a ti e aos teus descendentes todas estas terras, e cumprirei o que jurei a teu pai Abraão.

2 Now Yahweh appeared to him and said, "Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land that I tell you to live in. 3 Stay in this very land, and I will be with you and will bless you; for to you and to your descendants, I will give all these lands, and I will fulfill the oath that I swore to Abraham your father.

4 Multiplicarei a tua descendência como as estrelas do céu, e darei à tua semente todas estas terras. Em tua descendência serão abençoadas todas as nações da terra. 5 Farei isso, porque Abraão obedeceu à Minha voz e guardou a Minha prescrição, as Minhas ordenanças, os Meus estatutos e as Minhas leis".

4 I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and will give to your descendants all these lands. Through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed. 5 I will do this because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my instructions, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws."

6 Isaque assim habitou em Gerar. 7 Quando os homens do lugar lhe perguntaram sobre sua mulher, ele respondeu: "É minha irmã". Pois temeu dizer: "É minha mulher". Ele pensou consigo: "Os homens deste lugar tentarão me matar para possuir Rebeca, pois ela é de boa aparência". 8 Isaque permaneceu ali por longo tempo. E aconteceu que Abimeleque, rei dos filisteus, olhou pela janela e viu Isaque acariciando Rebeca, sua mulher.

6 So Isaac settled in Gerar. 7 When the men of the place asked him about his wife, he said, "She is my sister." He feared to say, "She is my wife," because he thought, "The men of this place will kill me to get Rebekah, because she is so beautiful." 8 After Isaac had been there a long time, Abimelek king of the Philistines happened to look out of a window. He saw, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.

9 Abimeleque chamou Isaque e disse: "É evidente que ela é tua mulher. Então, por que disseste: 'É minha irmã'?" Isaque respondeu-lhe: "Porque temi que me matassem por causa dela". 10 Abimeleque disse: Por que fizeste isso conosco? Se alguém de nós deitasse com tua mulher, tu terias trazido culpa sobre nós". 11 Então Abimeleque ordenou a todo o povo, dizendo: "Quem tocar neste homem ou na sua mulher, certamente será morto".

9 Abimelek called Isaac to him and said, "Look, certainly she is your wife. Why did you say, 'She is my sister'?" Isaac said to him, "Because I thought someone might kill me to get her." 10 Abimelek said, "What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us." 11 So Abimelek warned all the people and said, "Whoever touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death."

12 Isaque semeou naquela terra e, no mesmo ano, colheu cem vezes mais, pois Yahweh o abençoou. 13 O homem se enriqueceu e prosperou até tornar-se extremamente rico. 14 Possuía muitas ovelhas e gado, e grande número de servos, de modo que os filisteus o invejavam.

12 Isaac planted crops in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold, because Yahweh blessed him. 13 The man became rich, and grew more and more until he became very great. 14 He had many sheep and cattle, and a large household. The Philistines envied him.

15 E, por isso, os filisteus entulharam e entupiram com terra todos os poços cavados pelos servos nos dias de Abraão, seu pai. 16 Então Abimeleque disse: "Aparta-te de nós, pois tu és muito mais poderoso do que nós". 17 E Isaque partiu dali, acampou-se no vale de Gerar, onde habitou.

15 Now all the wells that his father's servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines stopped them up by filling them with earth. 16 Abimelek said to Isaac, "Go away from us, for you are much mightier than we." 17 So Isaac departed from there and settled in the Valley of Gerar, and lived there.

18 Isaque tornou a cavar os poços de água feitos nos dias de Abraão, seu pai, que os filisteus haviam entulhado, após a morte de Abraão. Isaque chamou os poços pelos mesmos nomes que seu pai já lhes havia dado.

18 Once again Isaac dug out the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father. The Philistines had stopped them up after Abraham's death. Isaac called the wells by the same names that his father had called them.

19 Assim que os servos de Isaque cavaram no vale, acharam uma fonte de águas correntes. 20 Os pastores de Gerar contenderam com os pastores de Isaque, dizendo: "Essa água nos pertence". Por isso, Isaque deu ao poço o nome Eseque, pois disputaram por causa dele.

19 When Isaac's servants dug in the valley, they found there a well of flowing water. 20 The herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen, and said, "This water is ours." So Isaac called that well "Esek," because they had quarreled with him.

21 E cavaram outro poço, e contenderam também por causa desse; por isso, foi-lhe dado o nome Sitna. 22 Ele partiu dali e cavou ainda outro poço, contudo não contenderam por esse. Então chamou o nome dele Reobote, pois disse: "Yahweh agora nos deu um lugar, e prosperaremos na terra".

21 Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over that, too, so he gave it the name of "Sitnah." 22 He left there and dug yet another well, but they did not quarrel over that one. So he called it Rehoboth, and he said, "Now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will prosper in the land."

23 E Isaque subiu dali a Berseba. 24 Yahweh apareceu-lhe naquela noite e disse: "Eu Sou o Deus de Abraão, teu pai. Não temas, pois Eu estou contigo e te abençoarei e multiplicarei a tua descendência, por causa de Meu servo Abraão". 25 Isaque edificou ali um altar e invocou o nome de Yahweh. Ali ele armou a sua tenda, e seus servos cavaram um poço.

23 Then Isaac went up from there to Beersheba. 24 Yahweh appeared to him that same night and said, "I am the God of Abraham your father. Do not fear, for I am with you and will bless you and multiply your descendants, for my servant Abraham's sake." 25 Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of Yahweh. There he pitched his tent, and his servants dug a well.

26 Então Abimeleque veio desde Gerar com Auzate, seu amigo, e Ficol, o chefe do seu exército, para encontrá-lo. 27 Isaque disse-lhes: "Por que viestes até mim, visto que me tratastes com hostilidade e me expulsastes do vosso meio?".

26 Then Abimelek went to him from Gerar, with Ahuzzath, his friend, and Phicol, the captain of his army. 27 Isaac said to them, "Why are you coming to me, since you hate me and have sent me away from you?"

28 E responderam-lhe: "Temos visto claramente que Yahweh está contigo. Então decidimos que deveria haver um juramento entre nós, sim, entre nós e ti. Portanto, permite-nos fazer uma aliança contigo: 29 Tu não nos farás mal, assim como nós não te tocamos, e te tratamos bem e te deixamos ir em paz. De fato, tu és o bendito de Yahweh".

28 Then they said, "We have clearly seen that Yahweh has been with you. So we decided that there should be an oath between us, yes, between us and you. So let us make a covenant with you, 29 that you will do us no harm, just as we have not harmed you, and as we have treated you well and have sent you away in peace. Indeed, you are blessed by Yahweh."

30 Então Isaque ofereceu-lhes um banquete, e eles comeram e beberam. 31 E levantaram-se de manhã e juraram um ao outro. Depois Isaque os despediu e eles partiram em paz.

30 So Isaac made a feast for them, and they ate and drank. 31 They rose early in the morning and swore an oath with each other. Then Isaac sent them away, and they left him in peace.

32 Naquele mesmo dia, os servos de Isaque vieram e contaram-lhe sobre o poço que haviam cavado. E disseram-lhe: "Encontramos água". 33 E deu ao poço o nome Seba, por isso a cidade se chama Berseba até os dias de hoje.

32 That same day Isaac's servants came and told him about the well that they had dug. They said, "We have found water." 33 He called the well Shibah, so the name of that city is Beersheba to this day.

34 Quando Esaú tinha quarenta anos, tomou por mulher Judite, a filha de Beeri, o heteu, e Basemate, a filha de Elom, o heteu. 35 Elas trouxeram amargura de espírito para Isaque e Rebeca.

34 When Esau was forty years old, he took a wife, Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and also Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 They brought sorrow to Isaac and Rebekah.
