1 As palavras de Agur, filho de Jaque — um enunciado. Este homem declarou para Itiel, Itiel e Ucal: 2 Certamente, eu sou mais como um animal do que como ser humano; não tenho o entendimento do ser humano. 3 Não aprendi a sabedoria, e não tenho o conhecimento do Santo.

1 The words of Agur son of Jakeh—the burden. This man declares to Ithiel, to Ithiel and Ucal: [[ The second line of some ancient Greek translations of the ancient Hebrew reads " This man declares: I am weary. I am weary and helpless. " They appear to have translated the Hebrew names " Ithiel " and " Ucal " into the Greek as " weary " and " helpless " . ]] 2 Surely I am more like an animal than any human and I do not have the understanding of a human being. 3 I have not learned wisdom, nor do I have knowledge of the Holy One.

4 Quem subiu ao céu e, de lá, desceu? Quem recolheu o vento no vazio de suas mãos? Quem reuniu as águas em um manto? Quem estabeleceu todas as extremidades da terra? Qual é o seu nome, e qual é o nome do seu filho? Se é que o sabes.

4 Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of his hands? Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is the name of his son? Surely you know!

5 Toda palavra de Deus é pura. Ele é um escudo para os que Nele se refugiam. 6 Nada adiciones às Suas palavras, ou Ele te repreenderá e provará que és mentiroso.

5 Every word of God is tested; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. 6 Do not add to his words, or he will discipline you, and you will be proved to be a liar.

7 Duas coisas eu peço a ti, não as retenhas de mim antes que eu morra. 8 Coloca a vaidade e a mentira longe de mim. Não me dês nem a pobreza nem a riqueza, somente a comida de que preciso. 9 Porque se eu tiver muito, Te negarei e direi: "Quem é Yahweh?" Ou se ficar pobre, roubarei e profanarei o Teu nome.

7 Two things I ask of you; do not withhold them from me before I die: 8 Put vanity and lies far away from me. Give me neither poverty nor riches, just let me eat the food that is my portion. 9 For if I have too much, I might deny you and say, "Who is Yahweh?" Or if I become poor, I might steal and profane the name of my God.

10 Não difameis um escravo diante do seu senhor, ou ele vos amaldiçoará, e vós sereis culpados.

10 Do not slander a slave before his master, or he will curse you and you will be held guilty.

11 A geração que amaldiçoa seu pai e não abençoa sua mãe 12 é a geração que é pura aos seus próprios olhos, mas não é lavada da sua imundícia.

11 There is a generation that curses their father and does not bless their mother. 12 There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, and yet they are not washed of their filth.

13 Esta é a geração — quão altivos são seus olhos e levantadas as suas pálpebras! — 14 cujos dentes são espadas e suas mandíbulas são facas. Assim, eles podem devorar da terra os pobres e, da humanidade, os necessitados.

13 There is a generation whose eyes are raised up, and how high are their eyelids lifted up! 14 There is a generation whose teeth are swords and whose jawbones are knives, so they may devour the poor from the earth and the needy from among humanity.

15 A sanguessuga tem duas filhas, "Dá e Dá", elas choram. Há três coisas que nunca estão satisfeitas, quatro que nunca dizem: “Basta!” 16 O Sheol, o útero estéril, a terra sedenta por água e o fogo que nunca diz: "Basta". 17 Os olhos que zombam do pai e desprezam a obediência da mãe; seus olhos serão arrancados pelos corvos do vale e comidos por abutres.

15 The leech has two daughters: "Give and give" they cry. There are three things that are never satisfied, four that never say, "Enough": 16 Sheol; the barren womb; land that is never satisfied with water; and the fire that never says, "Enough!" 17 The eye that mocks a father and scorns obedience to a mother will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley and will be eaten by the vultures.

18 Há três coisas que são maravilhosas demais para mim, quatro que eu não entendo: 19 o caminho da águia para o céu, o caminho da cobra para a rocha, o caminho do navio no meio do mar e o caminho do homem com uma mulher virgem.

18 There are three things that are too wonderful for me, four that I do not understand: 19 the way of an eagle in the sky; the way of a snake on a rock; the way of a ship in the heart of the sea; and the way of a man with a young woman.

20 Este é o caminho de uma adúltera — ela come, limpa seus lábios, e diz: "Não fiz nada de errado".

20 This is the way of an adulteress: she eats and she wipes her mouth and says, "I have done nothing wrong."

21 Há três coisas que fazem a terra estremecer e a quarta, ela não pode suportar: 22 um escravo quando se torna rei; um tolo quando se farta de comer; 23 uma mulher odiada quando se casa; e uma empregada quando ela toma o lugar da sua senhora.

21 Under three things the earth trembles, and under four it cannot bear up: 22 a slave when he becomes king; a fool when he is filled with food; 23 a hated woman when she marries; and a slave girl when she takes the place of her mistress.

24 Quatro coisas são pequenas na terra e, ainda assim, são muito sábias: 25 as formigas, criaturas que não são fortes, mas preparam a comida no verão; 26 os coelhos, criaturas que não são poderosas, mas fazem suas casas nas rochas.

24 Four things on earth are small and yet they are very wise: 25 the ants are creatures that are not strong, but they prepare their food in the summer; 26 the rock badgers are not mighty creatures, but they make their homes in the rocks.

27 Os gafanhotos que não têm rei, mas todos eles marcham enfileirados. 28 Quanto ao lagarto, podes segurá-lo em tuas mãos, ainda assim, eles são encontrados nos palácios dos reis.

27 Locusts have no king, but all of them march in rank. 28 As for the lizard, you can hold it in your two hands, yet it is found in kings' palaces.

29 Há três coisas que são imponentes em seu caminhar, quatro que são imponentes na forma que andam: 30 o leão, o mais forte entre os animais selvagens, não foge de nada; 31 um galo firmado em esporas, um bode, e um rei, cujos soldados estão ao seu lado.

29 There are three things that are stately in their stride and four that are stately in how they walk: 30 a lion, strongest among wild animals— it does not turn away from anything; 31 a strutting rooster; a goat; and a king whose soldiers are beside him.

32 Se tens sido um tolo, exaltando-te a ti mesmo, ou se tens concebido o mal — coloca tuas mãos sobre a boca. 33 Assim como bater o leite produz manteiga, e o nariz produz sangue se for torcido, assim as obras feitas com raiva produzem conflito.

32 If you have been foolish, exalting yourself, or if you have been devising evil— put your hand over your mouth. 33 As churning milk makes butter and as one's nose will produce blood if it is twisted, so deeds done in anger produce conflict.
