1 O coração do rei é uma corrente de água na mão de Yahweh; Ele o dirige para onde deseja. 2 O caminho de cada um parece correto aos seus próprios olhos, mas é Yahweh que sonda os corações.

1 The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of Yahweh; he turns it wherever he pleases. 2 Every person's way is right in his own eyes, but it is Yahweh who weighs the hearts.

3 Fazer o que é correto e justo é mais aceitável para Yahweh do que o sacrifício. 4 Os olhos altivos e o coração orgulhoso — a lâmpada dos corruptos — são pecado.

3 To do what is right and just is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice. 4 Haughty eyes and a proud heart— the lamp of the wicked—are sin.

5 Os planos do diligente, certamente, conduzem à prosperidade, mas quem se apressa excessivamente se dirige à pobreza. 6 Adquirir riquezas por meio da língua mentirosa é neblina passageira e um laço que mata.

5 The plans of the diligent lead only to prosperity, but everyone who acts too quickly comes only to poverty. 6 Acquiring treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a deadly snare.

7 A violência dos maus os varrerá, porque se recusam a fazer o que é justo. 8 O caminho do culpado é tortuoso, mas aquele que é puro faz o que é correto.

7 The violence of the wicked will drag them away, for they refuse to do what is just. 8 The way of a guilty person is crooked, but the one who is pure does what is right.

9 É melhor viver num canto do terraço que na casa compartilhada com uma esposa briguenta. 10 O coração dos corruptos anseia o mal; seu vizinho não acha favor em seus olhos.

9 It is better to live on a corner of the roof than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife. 10 The appetite of the wicked craves evil; his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.

11 Quando o zombador é punido, o simples se torna sábio, e quando o sábio é instruído, ele recebe o conhecimento. 12 Deus, o Justo, observa a casa do corrupto e leva os maus à ruína.

11 When the mocker is punished, the naive become wise, and when the wise person is instructed, he lays hold of knowledge. 12 The righteous person watches the house of the wicked person; he brings wicked people to disaster.

13 Aquele que tapa os ouvidos ao clamor do pobre também clamará, mas não será ouvido. 14 Um presente entregue em secreto abranda a ira, um presente às escondidas aplaca o grande furor.

13 The one who shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he also will cry out, but he will not be answered. 14 A gift in secret appeases anger and a concealed gift appeases strong wrath.

15 Quando a justiça é feita, ela traz alegria ao justo, mas traz terror para os malfeitores. 16 Aquele que vagueia afastando-se do caminho do entendimento descansará na assembleia dos mortos.

15 When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous person, but it brings terror to workers of iniquity. 16 The one who wanders from the way of understanding, he will rest in the assembly of the dead.

17 Quem ama o prazer se tornará pobre; aquele que ama o vinho e o azeite não será rico. 18 O corrupto é a redenção para o justo, e o traiçoeiro é a redenção para os que são corretos.

17 Whoever loves pleasure will become poor; the one who loves wine and oil will not be rich. 18 A wicked person is ransom for the righteous, and the treacherous person is ransom for the upright.

19 É melhor viver no deserto do que com uma esposa briguenta e raivosa. 20 Há azeite e tesouro precioso na casa do sábio, mas o homem insensato os devora por completo.

19 It is better to live in the desert than with a quarreling and angry wife. 20 Desirable treasure and oil are kept in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish person swallows it all up.

21 Aquele que pratica o que é justo e é benevolente encontra vida, justiça e honra. 22 O homem sábio escala a cidade dos poderosos e derruba a fortaleza em que confiavam.

21 The one who does right and is kind— this person finds life, righteousness, and honor. 22 A wise man scales the city of the mighty ones, and he brings down the stronghold in which they trusted.

23 Quem guarda sua boca e sua língua mantém-se longe de aflições. 24 O orgulhoso e altivo — cujo nome é "Zombador" — atua com orgulho arrogante.

23 Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps himself out of trouble. 24 The proud and haughty person—"Mocker" is his name— acts with arrogant pride.

25 O desejo do preguiçoso o mata, porque as suas mãos se recusam a trabalhar. 26 Todo o dia, ele anseia por mais e mais, mas aquele que é justo dá e não retém para si.

25 The desire of the lazy person kills him, for his hands refuse to work. 26 All day long he craves and craves more, but the righteous person gives and does not hold back.

27 O sacrifício do corrupto já é detestável; torna-se mais ainda quando é oferecido com intenções malignas. 28 A falsa testemunha perecerá, mas aquele que escuta falará por todo o tempo.

27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; it is even more detestable when he brings it with evil motives. 28 A false witness will perish, but the one who listens will speak for all time.

29 O homem mau se mostra com uma face dura, mas a pessoa correta tem certeza de seus caminhos.

29 A wicked man makes his face hard, but the upright is certain about his ways. [[ Some ancient copies of the Hebrew text have " but the upright thinks about his way " . ]]

30 Não há sabedoria, nem entendimento, nem conselho que possa permanecer contra Yahweh. 31 O cavalo é preparado para o dia da batalha, mas a vitória vem de Yahweh.

30 There is no wisdom, there is no understanding, and there is no advice that can stand against Yahweh. 31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to Yahweh.
