1 No vigésimo quarto dia do mesmo mês, o povo de Israel se reuniu para um jejum usando roupas de saco e colocando pó sobre as suas cabeças. 2 Os descendentes de Israel separam-se de todos os estrangeiros. Eles se levantaram e confessaram os seus próprios pecados e as iniquidades dos seus antepassados.

1 Now on the twenty-fourth day of the same month the people of Israel were assembled and they were fasting, and they were wearing sackcloth, and they put dust on their heads. 2 The descendants of Israel separated themselves from all the foreigners. They stood and confessed their own sins and the evil actions of their ancestors.

3 Eles se levantaram nos seus lugares, e por uma quarta parte do dia, leram o Livro da Lei de Yahweh, seu Deus. Na outra quarta parte do dia, eles ficaram confessando-se e curvando-se perante Yahweh, seu Deus. 4 Os levitas Jesua, Bani, Cadmiel, Sebanias, Buni, Serebias, Bani e Quenani ficaram de pé nas escadas e chamaram em voz alta a Yahweh, seu Deus.

3 They stood up in their places, and for one-fourth of the day they read from the book of the law of Yahweh their God. For another fourth of the day they were confessing and bowing down before Yahweh their God. 4 The Levites, Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Kenani, stood on the stairs and they called out with a loud voice to Yahweh their God.

5 Então, os levitas Jesua, Cadmiel, Bani, Hasabneias, Serebias, Hodias, Sebanias e Petaías disseram: "Levantai-vos e louvai a Yahweh, vosso Deus, para sempre e sempre. Que eles bendigam ao Teu glorioso nome, e que seja exaltado acima de toda benção e louvor. 6 Tu és Yahweh. Somente Tu. Tu fizestes o céu, os mais altos céus, com todos os seus exércitos, e a Terra e tudo o que nela há, e os mares e tudo o que neles há. Tu destes vida a todos, e os exércitos do céu Te adoram.

5 Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah said, "Stand up and give praise to Yahweh your God forever and ever." "May they bless your glorious name, and may it be exalted above every blessing and praise. 6 You are Yahweh. You alone. You have made heaven, the highest heavens, with all their host, and the earth and everything on it, and the seas and all that is in them. You give life to them all, and the host of heaven worship you.

7 Tu és Yahweh, o Deus que escolheu Abrão e o tirou de Ur dos caldeus e deu-lhe o nome de Abraão. 8 Vistes que o coração dele era fiel diante de Ti e fizestes com ele uma aliança pela qual daria aos seus descendentes a terra dos cananeus, dos heteus, dos amorreus, dos perizeus, dos jebuseus e dos girgaseus. Tu cumpriste a Tua promessa porque És justo.

7 You are Yahweh, the God who chose Abram, and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans, and gave him the name Abraham. 8 You found his heart was faithful before you, and you made with him the covenant to give to his descendants the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, and the Girgashites. You have kept your promise because you are righteous.

9 Tu vistes a aflição de nossos antepassados no Egito e ouvistes o seu clamor junto ao mar Vermelho. 10 Fizeste sinais e maravilhas contra o Faraó, todos os seus servos e todo o povo da sua terra, porque sabias que os egípcios agiam com arrogância contra eles. Mas Tu fizeste para Ti mesmo um nome, que permanece até hoje.

9 You saw the affliction of our forefathers in Egypt and you heard their cry by the Sea of Reeds. 10 You gave signs and wonders against Pharaoh, and all his servants, and on all the people of his land, for you knew that the Egyptians acted with arrogance against them. But you made a name for yourself which stands to this day.

11 Tu dividiste o mar diante deles, de modo que passaram pelo meio do mar em terra seca; e lançaste os seus perseguidores nas profundezas, como uma pedra em águas profundas.

11 Then you divided the sea before them, so that they went through the middle of the sea on the dry land; and threw those who pursued them into the depths, as a stone into deep waters.

12 Tu os guiaste com uma coluna de nuvem durante o dia, e uma coluna de fogo durante a noite, para iluminar o caminho onde deveriam ir. 13 No monte Sinai Tu desceste e falaste com eles do céu e deste-lhes decretos justos e leis verdadeiras, bons estatutos e mandamentos.

12 You led them by a pillar of cloud during the day, and by a pillar of fire during the night to light the way for them to go. 13 On Mount Sinai you came down and you spoke with them from heaven and gave to them righteous decrees and true laws, good statutes and commandments.

14 Tu fizeste conhecido a eles o Teu santo sábado e deste-lhes mandamentos, estatutos e leis através de Moisés, Teu servo. 15 Tu deste-lhes pão do céu para sua fome e água da rocha para sua sede, e Tu lhes disseste para irem e tomarem posse da terra que juraste lhes dar.

14 You made your holy Sabbath known to them, and you gave them commandments and statutes and a law through Moses your servant. 15 You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger, and water from a rock for their thirst, and you said to them to go in to possess the land you swore on oath to give them.

16 Mas eles e os nossos antepassados agiram desrespeitosamente, e foram teimosos e não escutaram os Teus mandamentos. 17 Eles se recusaram a escutar e não lembraram das maravilhas que fizeste entre eles, mas tornaram-se teimosos, e na sua rebeldia escolheram um líder para retornar à sua escravidão. Mas Tu és um Deus cheio de perdão, graça e compaixão, demoras a ficar irado e és cheio de amor. Tu não os abandonastes.

16 But they and our ancestors acted arrogantly, and they stiffened their necks and did not listen to your commandments. 17 They refused to listen, and they did not think about the wonders that you had done among them, but they stiffened their necks, and in their rebellion they appointed a leader to return to their slavery. But you are a God who is full of forgiveness, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. You did not abandon them.

18 Mesmo quando eles fundiram um bezerro de metal e disseram: 'Este é vosso Deus que vos tirou do Egito', e cometeram grandes blasfêmias; 19 Tu, na Tua compaixão, não os abandonaste no deserto. A coluna de nuvem para guiá-los no caminho não os deixava durante o dia, e nem a coluna de fogo durante noite para iluminar o caminho em que eles deveriam andar.

18 Even when they had cast a calf out of molten metal and said, 'This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,' and had committed great blasphemies, 19 you, in your compassion, did not abandon them in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud to lead them on the way did not leave them during day, neither did the pillar of fire by night to light the way for them to go.

20 Tu deste o teu bom Espírito para instruí-los e o Teu maná Tu não negaste à boca deles, e deste água para a sede deles. 21 Por quarenta anos Tu proveste para eles no deserto e não lhes faltava nada. As suas roupas não envelheceram e os seus pés não incharam.

20 Your good Spirit you gave them to instruct them, and your manna you did not withhold from their mouths, and water you gave them for their thirst. 21 For forty years you provided for them in the wilderness, and they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell.

22 Tu lhes deste reinos e povos, e distribuiste para eles cada canto da terra. Então, eles tomaram posse da terra de Siom, rei de Hesbom, e a terra do Ogue, rei de Basã.

22 You gave them kingdoms and peoples, assigning to them every corner of the land. Then they took possession of the land of Sihon king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan.

23 Tu fizestes os seus filhos tão numerosos quantos as estrelas do céu, e os trouxe para a terra que Tu falaste aos seus antepassados para entrar e possuir. 24 Então, o povo entrou e possuiu a terra e Tu subjugaste diante deles os habitantes da terra, os cananeus. Tu os deste nas suas mãos, com os seus reis e os povos da terra, para que Israel pudesse fazer com eles o que bem quisesse.

23 You made their children as numerous as the stars of heaven, and you brought them into the land that you told their ancestors to go in and possess. 24 So the people went in and possessed the land and you subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites. You gave them into their hands, with their kings and the peoples of the land, that Israel might do with them as they pleased.

25 Eles capturaram as cidades fortes e uma terra produtiva, e capturaram casas cheias de todo tipo de bens, cisternas já cavadas, vinhas e olivais e árvores frutíferas em abundância. Então, eles comeram e ficaram satisfeitos, e engordaram, e deleitaram-se em Tua grande bondade.

25 They captured the fortified cities and a productive land, and they took possession of houses full of all good things, cisterns already cut out, vineyards and olive orchards, and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate and were satisfied and grew fat and enjoyed themselves in your great goodness.

26 Ainda assim, eles se tornaram desobedientes e se rebelaram contra Ti. Lançaram a Tua Lei para trás das costas. Eles assassinaram Teus profetas que os alertaram para voltar-se a Ti, e cometeram grandes blasfêmias. 27 Então, Tu os entregaste nas mãos dos seus inimigos, que os fizeram sofrer. E no tempo do seu sofrimento, eles clamaram a Ti, e Tu os ouviste do céu; e, por causa das Tuas grandes misericórdias, Tu enviaste libertadores que os livraram das mãos dos seus inimigos.

26 Then they became disobedient and they rebelled against you. They threw your law behind their backs. They murdered your prophets who had warned them to turn back to you, and they committed great blasphemies. 27 So you gave them into the hand of their enemies, who made them suffer. In the time of their suffering, they cried out to you, and you heard them from heaven, and because of your great mercies you sent them rescuers who rescued them out of the hand of their enemies.

28 Mas, depois que eles descansaram, fizeram o mal novamente diante de Ti, e Tu os abandonaste nas mãos dos seus inimigos; então os seus inimigos dominaram sobre eles. No entanto, quando eles retornaram e clamaram a Ti, Tu os ouviste do céu; muitas vezes, por causa da Tua compaixão, Tu os resgataste. 29 Tu os alertaste para que voltassem à Tua Lei. Contudo eles agiram arrogantemente e não escutaram os Teus mandamentos. Eles pecaram contra os Teus decretos que dão vida a qualquer um que obedecê-los. Eles viraram as costas obstinadamente e endureceram seus pescoços e se recusaram a ouvir.

28 But after they had rest, they did evil again before you, and you abandoned them to the hand of their enemies, so their enemies ruled over them. Yet when they returned and cried out to you, you heard from heaven, and many times because of your compassion you rescued them. 29 You warned them so they might turn back to your law. Yet they acted arrogantly and did not listen to your commands. They sinned against your decrees which give life to anyone who obeys them. They gave the stubborn shoulder-blade and stiffened their neck and refused to listen.

30 Por muitos anos os suportaste e os advertiste pelo Teu Espírito através dos Teus profetas. Mesmo assim eles não escutaram. Então, Tu os entregaste nas mãos dos povos vizinhos. 31 Mas, nas Tuas grandes misericórdias, Tu não os destruíste completamente, nem os abandonaste, pois Tu és um Deus gracioso e misericordioso.

30 For many years you put up with them and warned them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they did not listen. So you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands. 31 But in your great mercies you did not destroy them completely or forsake them, for you are a gracious and merciful God.

32 Agora nosso Deus, o grande, o poderoso e maravilhoso Deus, que mantém a Sua aliança e grande amor, não deixe que pareça pequena para a Ti toda essa dificuldade que veio sobre nós, nossos reis, nossos príncipes, e sobre nossos sacerdotes e nossos profetas e nossos antepassados e todo o povo desde os dias dos reis da Assíria até o dia de hoje. 33 Tu és justo em tudo que nos tem acontecido, pois Tu tens agido com fidelidade, mas nós temos agido perversamente. 34 Nossos reis, nossos príncipes, nossos sacerdotes, e nossos antepassados não têm guardado a Tua Lei, nem prestado atenção aos Teus mandamentos ou aos decretos da Tua aliança pela qual Tu os advertiste.

32 Now therefore, our God—you great, mighty, and awesome God who keep your covenant and steadfast love—do not let all this hardship seem little to you that has come on us, on our kings, on our leaders, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our ancestors, and on all your people from the days of the kings of Assyria until today. 33 You are just in everything that has come on us, for you have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly. 34 Our kings, our leaders, our priests, and our ancestors have not kept your law, nor paid attention to your commandments or your covenant decrees by which you warned them.

35 Mesmo no seu próprio reino, enquanto eles desfrutavam da Tua grande bondade para com eles, na grande e produtiva terra que Tu colocaste diante deles, eles não Te serviram ou deixaram os seus maus caminhos.

35 Even in their own kingdom, while they enjoyed your great goodness to them, in the large and productive land you set before them, they did not serve you or turn away from their evil deeds.

36 Agora nós somos escravos na terra que deste aos nossos antepassados para desfrutar seus frutos e suas boas dádivas, e eis que nós somos escravos nela! 37 A rica produção das nossas terras vai para os reis que Tu colocaste sobre nós por causa dos nossos pecados. Eles reinam sobre os nossos corpos e sobre o nossos gados como eles querem. Nós estamos em grande angústia.

36 Now we are slaves in the land you gave our ancestors to enjoy its fruit and its good gifts, and behold, we are slaves in it! 37 The rich produce of our land goes to the kings you have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and over our livestock as they please. We are in great distress.

38 Por causa de tudo isso, nós firmamos uma aliança por escrito. No documento selado estão os nomes dos nossos príncipes, levitas, e sacerdotes".

38 Because of all this, we make a firm covenant in writing. On the sealed document are the names of our leaders, Levites, and priests."
