1 Quando o muro foi concluído e eu havia colocado as portas no lugar, e os porteiros, os cantores e os levitas foram designados, 2 dei a meu irmão Hanani o encargo de administração de Jerusalém, juntamente com Hananias, que era chefe da fortaleza, pois ele era um homem fiel e temia a Deus mais que muitos.

1 When the wall was finished and I had set up the doors in place, and the gatekeepers and singers and Levites had been appointed, 2 I put my brother Hanani in charge over Jerusalem, along with Hananiah, the overseer of the fortress, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.

3 E disse-lhes: "Não abrais os portões de Jerusalém até que o sol esteja alto. Enquanto os porteiros estão em guarda, deveis fechar as portas e trancá-las. Designai guardas dos que moram em Jerusalém, alguns em seus postos de guarda e outros em frente a suas próprias casas". 4 Ora, a cidade era ampla e grande, porém havia poucas pessoas nela e as casas não haviam sido reconstruídas ainda.

3 I said to them, "Do not open the gates of Jerusalem until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are on guard, you may shut the doors and bar them. Appoint guards from those who live in Jerusalem, some at the place of their guard station, and some in front of their own homes." 4 Now the city was wide and large, but there were few people within it, and no houses had yet been rebuilt.

5 Meu Deus colocou, em meu coração, de reunir os nobres, os oficiais e o povo para registrá-los conforme suas famílias. E encontrei o livro da genealogia daqueles que haviam retornado primeiro e nele achei escrito o seguinte:

5 My God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, the officials, and the people to enroll them by families. I found the book of the genealogy of those who returned at the first and found the following written in it.

6 "Este é o povo da província que saiu do cativeiro em que Nabucodonosor, o rei da Babilônia, os levou para o exílio. Eles retornaram a Jerusalém e a Judá, cada um para sua cidade. 7 Eles vieram com Zorobabel, Jesua, Neemias, Azarias, Raamias, Naamani, Mardoqueu, Bilsã, Misperete, Bigvai, Neum e Baaná. O número dos homens do povo de Israel incluía o seguinte:

6 "These are the people of the province who went up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon took into exile. They returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, each to his city. 7 They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. But they could not prove that they or their ancestors' families were descendants from Israel: 62 the descendants of Delaiah, the descendants of Tobiah, and the descendants of Nekoda, 642. 63 Those who were from the priests: the descendants of Habaiah, Hakkoz, and Barzillai (who took his wife from the daughters of Barzillai of Gilead and was called by their name).

However, some recommend reading " thirty priestly garments and five hundred minas of silver " . ]] 71 Some of the heads of ancestors' families gave into the treasury for the work twenty thousand darics of gold and 2,200 minas of silver. 72 The rest of the people gave twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven priestly garments.
