1 E, quando Sambalate ouviu que estávamos construindo o muro, isso ardeu em seu interior, ficou furiosamente irado e zombou dos judeus. 2 Na presença de seus irmãos e do exército de Samaria, ele disse: "O que esses fracos judeus estão fazendo? Eles vão restaurar a cidade para eles mesmos? Irão oferecer sacrifícios? Irão finalizar o trabalho em um dia? Trarão à vida as pedras dos montes de entulhos, depois de terem sido queimadas?". 3 Tobias, o amonita estava com ele e lhe disse: "Se apenas uma raposa subir no que estão construindo, isso poderia quebrar seu muro de pedra!".

1 Now when Sanballat heard we were building the wall, it burned within him, and he was furiously angry, and he mocked the Jews. 2 In the presence of his brothers and the army of Samaria, he said, "What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they restore the city for themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish the work in a day? Will they bring to life the stones from the piles of rubble after they were burned? 3 Tobiah the Ammonite was with him, and he said, "If only a fox went up on what they are building, it would break down their stone wall!"

4 Ouve, nosso Deus, pois somos desprezados. Faze voltar as ofensas sobre suas próprias cabeças e entregue-os a serem saqueados em uma terra onde são prisioneiros. 5 Não cubras suas iniquidades e não apagues os seus pecados de diante de Ti, pois eles provocaram a ira dos que edificavam. 6 Então, nós construímos o muro em toda sua extensão até a metade da sua altura, porque o povo tinha ânimo para trabalhar.

4 Hear, our God, for we are despised. Turn back their taunts on their own heads and give them up to be plundered in a land of captivity. 5 Do not cover over their iniquity and let their sin not be blotted out from before you, for they have provoked the builders to anger. 6 So we built the wall and all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a desire to work.

7 Mas, quando Sambalate, Tobias, o árabe, os amonitas e os asdoditas ouviram que o trabalho de reparos dos muros de Jerusalém estava avançando e que os lugares quebrados no muro estavam sendo fechados, arderam-se em grande ira. 8 Todos eles conspiraram juntos; então vieram para lutar contra Jerusalém e causar nela confusão. 9 Mas nós oramos ao nosso Deus e colocamos guardas para proteger-nos contra eles dia e noite, por causa das suas ameaças.

7 But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabians, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites heard that the work of repairing the walls of Jerusalem was going forward, and that the broken places in the wall were being closed up, a great anger burned within them. 8 They all conspired together, and they came to fight against Jerusalem and to cause confusion in it. 9 But we prayed to our God and set a guard as protection against them day and night because of their threat.

10 Então, as pessoas de Judá disseram: "A força daqueles que carregam os fardos está diminuindo, há muito entulho e nós não somos capazes de reconstruir o muro". 11 E nossos inimigos disseram: "Eles não saberão ou não verão até que entremos no meio deles, e os matemos, e parem o trabalho".

10 Then the people of Judah said, "The strength of those who carry the burdens is failing. There is too much rubble, and we are not able to rebuild the wall."\m 11 Our enemies said, "They will not know or see until we come among them and kill them, and stop the work."

12 Naquele tempo, os judeus que moravam perto deles vieram de todas as direções e falaram conosco dez vezes, advertindo-nos do esquema que eles estavam tramando contra nós. 13 Então, posicionei pessoas nas partes mais baixas do muro, nas áreas expostas. Posicionei cada família com suas espadas, lanças e arcos. 14 Então, olhei, coloquei-me de pé e disse aos nobres, aos governadores e ao resto do povo: "Não tenhais medo deles. Lembrai-vos do Senhor, que é grande e maravilhoso. Lutai por vossas famílias, vossos filhos e vossas filhas, vossas esposas e vossas casas".

12 At that time the Jews who lived near them came from all directions and spoke to us ten times, warning us about the schemes they were making against us. 13 So I positioned people in the lowest parts of the wall in the exposed areas. I positioned each family with their swords, spears, and bows. 14 Then I looked, and stood up, and I said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, "Do not be afraid of them. Call to mind the Lord, who is great and awesome. Fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives, and your homes."

15 E aconteceu que, após nossos inimigos ouvirem que seus planos se tornaram conhecidos por nós e que Deus havia frustrado os deles, todos nós retornamos para o muro, cada um ao seu trabalho. 16 Desde aquele dia, metade dos meus servos trabalhavam exclusivamente para reconstruir o muro, e a outra metade dos homens segurava lanças, escudos e arcos e usavam armaduras, enquanto os líderes apoiavam todo o povo de Judá.

15 It came about when our enemies heard that their plans were known to us, and God had frustrated their plans, all of us returned to the wall, each one to his work. 16 So from that time half of my servants worked only on rebuilding the wall, and half of them held spears, shields, bows, and wore armor, while the leaders stood behind all the people of Judah

17 Os mesmos trabalhadores que construíam o muro e carregavam cargas também guardavam suas posições. Cada um trabalhava com uma mão e, com a outra mão, segurava uma arma. 18 Cada construtor usava sua espada ao lado e era assim que trabalhava. O que tocava trombeta permanecia ao meu lado.

17 and those who were building the wall. Those who carried burdens carried their loads such that each did his work with one hand, and with the other hand he held his weapon. 18 Every builder wore his sword girded at his side, and that is how he worked. The one who sounded the trumpet stayed beside me.

19 Eu disse aos nobres, aos oficiais, e ao resto do povo: "O trabalho é grande e extenso, e nós estamos separados no muro, distantes uns do outros. 20 Devei correr ao lugar de onde ouvirdes o som da trombeta e ajuntai-vos lá. Nosso Deus lutará por nós".

19 I said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, "The work is great and extensive, and we are separated on the wall, far from one another. 20 You must rush to the place where you hear the trumpet sound and assemble there. Our God will fight for us."

21 Então, nós estávamos fazendo o trabalho. A metade deles segurava lanças desde o alvorecer até o anoitecer. 22 Eu também disse ao povo naquele tempo: "Que cada homem e seu servo passe a noite no meio de Jerusalém, para que eles possam ser nossos guardas durante a noite e trabalhem durante o dia". 23 Então, nem eu, nem meus irmãos, nem meus servos, nem os homens da guarda que me seguiam, nenhum de nós trocou a roupa, e cada um de nós carregava sua arma, mesmo quando buscava água.

21 So we were doing the work. Half of them were holding spears from the rising of the dawn until the coming out of the stars. 22 I also said to the people at that time, "Let every man and his servant spend the night in the middle of Jerusalem, so they may be for us a guard during the night and a worker in the day." 23 So neither I, nor my brothers, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us changed our clothes, and each of us carried his weapon, even if he went for water.
