1 Quando o povo viu que Moisés demorava para descer da montanha, eles se ajuntaram em volta de Arão e lhe disseram: "Vem, faze-nos um ídolo para que vá a nossa frente. Quanto a esse Moisés, o homem que nos tirou da terra do Egito, não sabemos o que aconteceu com ele". 2 Então Arão lhes disse: "Tirai os brincos de ouro das orelhas de vossas esposas e das orelhas dos vossos filhos e filhas, e trazei-os a mim".

1 When the people saw that Moses delayed in coming down the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said to him, "Come, make us an idol that will go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him." 2 So Aaron said to them, "Take off the golden rings that are on your wives' ears, and the ears of your sons and daughters, and bring them to me."

3 E todo o povo retirou os brincos de ouro que estavam em suas orelhas e os levou a Arão. 4 Ele recebeu o ouro do povo, e o modelou em forma de um bezerro. Então o povo disse: "Israel, este é o vosso deus que vos tirou da terra do Egito"'.

3 All the people took off the golden rings that were on their ears and brought them to Aaron. 4 He received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with an engraving tool and he made a cast idol in the shape of a calf. Then they said, "These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt."

5 Quando Arão viu isso, ele construiu um altar diante do bezerro e proclamou, dizendo: "Amanhã haverá um festival em honra a Yahweh". 6 No dia seguinte, o povo se levantou cedo e ofereceu ofertas queimadas e trouxeram ofertas pacificas. Então se sentaram para comer e beber, e depois se levantaram para se divertir.

5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before the calf and made a proclamation; he said, "Tomorrow will be a festival in Yahweh's honor." 6 The people arose early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought fellowship offerings. Then they sat down to eat and to drink, and then got up to carouse in wild celebration.

7 Então Yahweh disse a Moisés: "Vá imediatamente, pois o teu povo, os quais tiraste da terra do Egito, tem se corrompido. 8 Eles rapidamente se desviaram do caminho que Eu os ordenei. Eles moldaram um bezerro para eles e o adoraram e fizeram sacrificios para ele. Eles têm dito: 'Israel, esse é o seu deus que vos tirou da terra do Egito'".

7 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go quickly, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. 8 They have quickly left the way that I commanded them. They have made a cast idol in the shape of a calf and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it. They have said, 'These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.'"

9 E disse Yahweh a Moisés: "Eu tenho visto esse povo. Vê, eles são um povo teimoso. 10 Agora, pois, não tentes me impedir. Minha furia irá queimar contra eles, então EU os destruirei. Feito isso irei fazer uma grande nação por meio de ti. 11 Porém Moisés tentou acalmar Yahweh seu Deus. Ele disse: "Yahweh por que a tua ira se acende contra o teu povo, os quais Tu trouxeste da terra do Egito com grande poder e mão poderosa?

9 Then Yahweh said to Moses, "I have seen this people. Look, they are a stiff-necked people. 10 Now then, do not try to stop me. My anger will burn hot against them, so I will destroy them. Then I will make a great nation from you." 11 But Moses tried to calm down Yahweh his God. He said, "Yahweh, why does your anger burn against your people, whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

12 Por que os egípcios deveriam dizer: 'Ele os livrou do mal para matá-los nas montanhas e destruí-los da face da terra'? Afasta-te desta fúria ardente e retira essa punição de sobre o Teu povo. 13 Lembra-te de Abraão, de Isaque e de Israel, Teus servos, aos quais Tu juraste, por ti mesmo, dizendo-lhes: "Multiplicarei teus descendentes como as estrelas nos céus, e lhes darei toda esta terra a qual tenho falado. Eles a herdarão para sempre'". 14 Então Yahweh desistiu da punição que Ele lhe havia dito que traria contra o Seu povo.

12 Why should the Egyptians say, 'He led them out with evil intent, to kill them in the mountains and to destroy them from the face of the earth?' Turn from your burning anger and relent from this punishment on your people. 13 Call to mind Abraham and Isaac and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self and said to them, 'I will make your descendants as many as the stars in the heavens, and I will give to your descendants all this land of which I have spoken. They will inherit it forever.'" 14 Then Yahweh relented from the punishment that he had said he would inflict on his people.

15 Então Moisés se virou e desceu a montanha, carragando as duas tábuas dos Decretos da Aliança em suas mãos. As tábuas estavam escritas em ambos os lados, frente e verso. 16 As tábuas e os seus escritos eram obras do próprio Deus, esculpidos por Ele mesmo.

15 Then Moses turned around and went down the mountain, carrying the two tablets of the covenant decrees in his hand. The tablets were written on both their sides, on both the front and the back. 16 The tablets were God's own work, and the writing was God's own writing, engraved on the tablets.

17 Quando Josué ouviu o barulho do povo que gritava, ele disse a Moisés: "Há gritos de combate no acampamento". 18 Mas disse-lhe Moisés: "Isso não é grito dos vitoriosos, e nem barulho de pessoas derrotadas, o que escuto é o som de pessoas cantando".

17 When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, "There is the noise of combat in the camp." 18 But Moses said, "It is not the sound of a victor, and not the sound of defeated people, but the sound of singing that I hear."

19 Quando Moisés chegou ao acampamento, ele viu o bezerro e as pessoas dançando. Logo enfureceu-se. Ele lançou as tábuas de suas mãos e as quebrou ao pé da montanha. 20 Ele pegou o bezerro que as pessoas haviam feito, queimou-o, triturou-o até virar pó, e o despejou na água. Então ele fez com que o povo de Israel a bebesse.

19 When Moses approached the camp, he saw the calf and the people dancing. He became very angry. He threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the bottom of the mountain. 20 He took the calf that the people had made, burned it, ground it to powder, and poured it into the water. Then he made the people of Israel drink it.

21 Então Moisés disse a Arão: "O que esse povo te fez, para que trouxesses tamanho pecado sobre ele"? 22 Disse-lhe Arão: "Não se acenda a vossa ira, meu senhor. Tu conheces esse povo, e sabes o quanto eles empenhados em fazer o mal. 23 Eles me disseram: 'Faze-nos um deus que vá a nossa frente. Quanto a Moisés, o homem que nos trouxe da terra do Egito, nós não sabemos o que houve com ele' 24 Então eu lhes disse: 'Aqueles que têm ouro, tirem-no. Eles me deram, e eu o lancei ao fogo, e saiu esse bezerro'".

21 Then Moses said to Aaron, "What did this people do to you, that you have brought such a great sin on them?" 22 Aaron said, "Do not let your anger burn hot, my master. You know these people, how they are set on doing evil. 23 They said to me, 'Make us a god who will go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.' 24 So I said to them, 'Whoever has any gold, let him take it off.' They gave me the gold and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf."

25 Moisés viu que o povo estava agindo de forma estranha, pois Arão os deixou perder o controle, expondo-os à zombaria dos seus inimigos. 26 Então Moisés ficou de pé, na entrada do acampamento, e disse: "Quem estiver do lado de Yahweh, venha até mim". Todos os levitas se ajuntaram em volta dele. 27 Ele lhes disse: "Yahweh, o Deus de Israel, diz isto: 'Que cada homem prepare sua espada ao lado indo e vindo, de porta em porta, por todo o acampamento, e mate seus irmãos, seus companheiros e vizinhos'".

25 Moses saw that the people were running wild (for Aaron had let them get out of control, causing their enemies to mock them). 26 Then Moses stood at the entrance to the camp and said, "Whoever is on Yahweh's side, come to me." All the Levites gathered around him. 27 He said to them, "Yahweh, the God of Israel, says this: 'Let each man fasten his sword on his side and go back and forth from entrance to entrance throughout the camp, and kill his brother, his companion, and his neighbor.'"

28 Os levitas fizeram conforme Moisés lhes havia ordenado. Naquele dia morreram cerca de três mil homens do povo. 29 Moisés disse aos levitas: "Vós fostes postos a serviço de Yahweh hoje, pois cada um de vós agiu contra seu irmão, portanto Yahweh vos deu uma benção hoje".

28 The Levites did what Moses ordered. That day about three thousand of the people died. 29 Moses said to the Levites, "You have been placed into Yahweh's service today, for each of you has taken action against his son and his brother, so Yahweh might give you a blessing today."

30 No dia seguinte, Moisés disse ao povo: "Cometestes um grande pecado. Agora eu subirei a Yahweh. Talvez eu possa fazer expiação pelo vosso pecado. 31 Moisés voltou a Yahweh e disse: "Oh, esse povo cometeu um grande pecado e fizeram para si um ídolo de ouro. 32 Mas agora, perdoa-lhes o pecado; se não o fizeres, apaga-me do livro que escreveste".

30 The next day Moses said to the people, "You have committed a very great sin. Now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I can make atonement for your sin." 31 Moses returned to Yahweh and said, "Oh, these people have committed a great sin and made themselves an idol of gold. 32 But now, please forgive their sin; but if you do not, blot me out of the book that you have written."

33 Yahweh disse a Moisés: "Aquele que tiver pecado contra mim, essa pessoa eu apagarei do meu livro. 34 Agora vai e conduz este povo para o lugar sobre o qual eu te falei. Vê, o Meu anjo irá na tua frente. Porém no dia em que Eu os castigar, Eu os punirei por seu pecado". 35 Então Yahweh enviou a praga para o povo, por fezer o bezerro, aquele que Arão havia fabricado.

33 Yahweh said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against me, that person I will blot out of my book. 34 So now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. See, my angel will go before you. But on the day that I punish them, I will punish them for their sin." 35 Yahweh sent a plague on the people because they had made the calf, the one that Aaron made.
