1 No terceiro mês depois de o povo israelita ter deixado a terra do Egito, naquele mesmo dia, eles voltaram para o deserto do Sinai. 2 Depois de saírem de Refidim, eles acamparam no deserto do Sinai, em frente do monte.

1 In the third month after the people of Israel had gone out from the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came to the wilderness of Sinai. 2 After they left Rephidim and came to the wilderness of Sinai, they camped in the wilderness in front of the mountain.

3 Moisés subiu até Deus. Yahweh o chamou para a montanha e disse: "Vós deveis falar à casa de Jacó, ao povo de Israel: 4 Vós tendes visto o que Eu fiz com os egípcios, como Eu vos carreguei nas asas das águias e vos trouxe para Mim. 5 Agora, portanto, se ouvirdes atentamente a Minha voz e guardardes a Minha aliança, sereis Minha propriedade exclusiva dentre todos os povos, porque toda a terra é Minha. 6 Vós sereis reino de sacerdotes e a nação santa para Mim. Essas são as palavras que falarás ao povo de Israel".

3 Moses went up to God. Yahweh called to him from the mountain and said, "You must tell the house of Jacob, the people of Israel: 4 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now then, if you obediently listen to my voice and keep my covenant, then you will be my special possession from among all peoples, for all the earth is mine. 6 You will be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation for me. These are the words that you must speak to the people of Israel."

7 Então Moisés voltou e convocou os anciãos do povo. Ele lhes apresentou todas as palavras que Yahweh havia ordenado. 8 Todo o povo respondeu dizendo: "Nós faremos tudo o que Yahweh ordenou." Então, Moisés voltou a comunicar as palavras do povo para Yahweh. 9 Yahweh disse a Moisés: "Virei a ti em uma nuvem espessa para que o povo Me ouça falar contigo e sempre creia em ti". Então, Moisés falou as palavras do povo a Yahweh.

7 So Moses came and summoned the elders of the people. He set before them all these words that Yahweh had commanded him. 8 All the people answered together and said, "We will do everything that Yahweh has said." Then Moses came to report the people's words to Yahweh. 9 Yahweh said to Moses, "I will come to you in a thick cloud so that the people may hear when I speak with you and may also believe you forever." Then Moses told the people's words to Yahweh.

10 Yahweh disse para Moisés: "Vá até o povo. Hoje e amanhã santificai-o para Mim, e faça com que lavem as próprias roupas. 11 Estai prontos para o terceiro dia, porque, no terceiro dia, Eu, Yahweh, voltarei ao monte Sinai.

10 Yahweh said to Moses, "Go to the people. Today and tomorrow you must set them apart to me, and make them wash their garments. 11 Be ready for the third day, for on the third day Yahweh will come down to Mount Sinai.

12 Tu definirás todos os limites ao redor do monte para o povo. Dize a eles: 'Cuidado. Vós não podereis subir ao monte ou tocar em sua borda. Qualquer de vós que tocar no monte certamente será condenado à morte'. 13 Ninguém tocará a mão na pessoa que fizer isso. Em vez disso, ela certamente deverá ser apedrejada ou flechada. Quer seja uma pessoa ou um animal, deverão ser condenados à morte. Quando a trombeta tocar por muito tempo, eles subirão até a base do monte".

12 You must set boundaries all around the mountain for the people. Say to them, 'Be careful that you do not go up the mountain or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain will surely be put to death.' 13 No one's hand must touch such a person. Instead, he must certainly be stoned or shot. Whether it is an animal or man, he must be put to death. When the trumpet sounds a long blast, they may come up to the foot of the mountain."

14 Então Moisés desceu do monte para o povo. Ele santificou o povo para Yahweh, e eles lavaram suas roupas. 15 Ele disse para as pessoas: "Estejam prontos para o terceiro dia; não vos chegareis a vossas esposas".

14 Then Moses went down from the mountain to the people. He set apart the people to Yahweh and they washed their garments. 15 He said to the people, "Be ready on the third day; do not go near your wives."

16 No terceiro dia, quando amanheceu, houve trovões e relâmpagos e uma nuvem espessa no monte. E ouviu-se um toque muito alto de trombeta. Todo o povo do acampamento ficou estremecido. 17 Moisés levou o povo para fora do acampamento ao encontro de Deus, e eles permaneceram na base do monte. 18 O Monte Sinai foi completamente coberto com fumaça porque Yahweh havia descido sobre ele em fogo e fumaça. A fumaça subia como a de uma fornalha, e todo o monte estremecia violentamente.

16 On the third day, when it was morning, there were thunder and lightning bolts and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of a very loud trumpet. All the people in the camp trembled. 17 Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Mount Sinai was completely covered with smoke because Yahweh descended on it in fire and smoke. The smoke went up like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain shook violently.

19 Quando o som da trombeta aumentava cada vez mais, Moisés falava, e Deus lhe respondia. 20 Yahweh desceu sobre o Monte Sinai, para o topo do monte, e chamou Moisés para lá. Então Moisés subiu. 21 Yahweh disse a Moisés: "Desce e adverte o povo para não romper o limite para vir até Mim, ou muitos deles perecerão. 22 Os sacerdotes que se aproximam do SENHOR também devem se santificar - para que o SENHOR não se volte contra eles".

19 When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him in a voice. 20 Yahweh came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain, and he summoned Moses to the top. So Moses went up. 21 Yahweh said to Moses, "Go down and warn the people; otherwise they might break out to Yahweh to look, and many of them might perish. 22 Let the priests also who come near to me set themselves apart—prepare themselves for my coming—so that I do not break out against them."

23 Moisés disse a Yahweh: "O povo não poderá subir ao monte, porque Tu nos ordenaste: 'Marcai limites ao redor do monte e santificai-vos a Yahweh'". 24 Yahweh lhe disse: "Vai, desce o monte e traze Arão contigo, mas os sacerdotes e o povo não poderão subir até Mim, ou Eu os atacarei". 25 Então, Moisés desceu até o povo e falou isso para eles.

23 Moses said to Yahweh, "The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai, for you commanded us: 'Set boundaries around the mountain and set it apart to Yahweh.'" 24 Yahweh said to him, "Go down and bring up Aaron with you, but do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to Yahweh, or he will break out against them." 25 So Moses went down to the people and spoke to them.
