1 Depois disto, Davi perguntou a Yahweh e disse: "Devo eu subir a uma das cidades de Judá?". Yahweh o respondeu: "Sobe”. Davi disse: "Para qual cidade devo ir?". Yahweh respondeu: "Para Hebrom". 2 Então, Davi subiu com suas duas esposas, Ainoã de Jezreel, e Abigail a viúva de Nabal, o carmelita. 3 Davi trouxe os homens que estavam com ele; cada um trouxe sua família, para as cidades de Hebrom, onde começaram a morar.

1 After this David asked Yahweh and said, "Should I go up to one of the cities of Judah?" Yahweh replied to him, "Go up." David said, "To which city should I go?" Yahweh replied, "To Hebron." 2 So David went up with his two wives, Ahinoam from Jezreel, and Abigail from Carmel, the widow of Nabal. 3 David brought the men who were with him, who each brought his family, to the cities of Hebron, where they began to live.

4 Então, homens de Judá vieram e ungiram Davi rei sobre a casa de Judá. Eles falaram a Davi: "Os homens de Jabes-Gileade enterraram Saul". 5 Então, Davi enviou mensageiros aos homens de Jabes-Gileade e disse a eles: "Vós sois abençoados por Yahweh, já que mostrastes esta lealdade ao vosso senhor Saul, e o enterrastes.

4 Then men from Judah came and anointed David king over the house of Judah. They told David, "The men of Jabesh Gilead have buried Saul." 5 So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead and said to them, "You are blessed by Yahweh, since you have shown this loyalty to your master Saul and have buried him.

6 Agora, que Yahweh vos mostre Seu amor leal e Sua fidelidade. Eu também vos mostrarei esta bondade porque fizestes essa boa obra. 7 Agora, então, que vossas mãos sejam fortes; sede corajosos, pois Saul, vosso senhor, está morto, e a casa de Judá me ungiu rei sobre eles".

6 Now may Yahweh show you steadfast love and faithfulness. I also will show you this goodness because you have done this thing. 7 Now then, let your hands be strong; be courageous for Saul your master is dead, and the house of Judah has anointed me king over them."

8 Mas Abner, filho de Ner, comandante do exército de Saul, tomou Isbosete, filho de Saul, e o trouxe para Maanaim; 9 ele constituiu Isbosete rei sobre Gileade, Aser, Jezreel, Efraim, Benjamim e sobre todo o Israel.

8 But Abner son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, took Ish-Bosheth son of Saul and brought him to Mahanaim. 9 He made Ish-Bosheth king over Gilead, Asher, Jezreel, Ephraim, Benjamin, and over all Israel.

10 Isbosete, filho de Saul, tinha quarenta anos de idade quando começou a reinar sobre Israel, e reinou por dois anos. Todavia, a casa de Judá seguiu Davi. 11 O tempo em que Davi foi rei em Hebrom sobre a casa de Judá foi de sete anos e seis meses.

10 Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David. 11 The time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

12 Abner, filho de Ner, e os servos de Isbosete, filho de Saul, saíram de Maanaim para Gibeão. 13 Joabe, filho de Zeruia, e os servos de Davi saíram e se encontraram perto do tanque de Gibeão. Ali, eles sentaram-se ao lado do tanque, um grupo de cada lado.

12 Abner son of Ner, and the servants of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon. 13 Joab son of Zeruiah and the servants of David went out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. There they sat down, one group on one side of the pool and the other on the other side.

14 Abner disse a Joabe: "Deixa os jovens se levantarem e competirem diante de nós". Então, Joabe disse: "Que se levantem". 15 Então, os jovens levantaram-se e se reuniram: doze para Benjamim e Isbosete, filho de Saul, e doze dos servos de Davi.

14 Abner said to Joab, "Let the young men arise and compete before us." Then Joab said, "Let them arise." 15 Then the young men got up and gathered together, twelve for Benjamin and Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, and twelve from servants of David.

16 Cada homem agarrou seu oponente pela cabeça e enfiou sua espada no lado do seu oponente, e eles caíram juntos. Assim, aquele lugar foi chamado, em hebraico, de "Helcate-Hazurim" ou "Campo das Espadas", que está em Gibeão. 17 A batalha foi muito severa naquele dia e Abner e os homens de Israel foram derrotados diante dos servos de Davi.

16 Each man seized his opponent by the head and thrust his sword into the side of his opponent, and they fell down together. Therefore that place was called "Helkath Hazzurim," or "Field of Swords," which is in Gibeon. 17 The battle was very severe that day and Abner and the men of Israel were defeated before the servants of David.

18 Os três filhos de Zeruia estavam ali: Joabe, Abisai, e Asael. Asael era rápido nos pés, como uma gazela selvagem. 19 Asael perseguiu de perto Abner e o seguiu sem se desviar nem para a direita e nem para a esquerda.

18 The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel. Asahel was swift in his feet like a wild gazelle. 19 Asahel closely pursued Abner and followed him without turning away in any direction.

20 Abner olhou para trás e disse: "És tu, Asael?". Ele respondeu: "Sou eu". 21 Abner disse para ele: "Desvia-te para tua direita ou para esquerda, e agarra um dos jovens e pega sua armadura". Mas Asael não mudou de direção.

20 Abner looked behind him and said, "Is that you Asahel?" He answered, "It is I." 21 Abner said to him, "Turn aside to your right or to your left, and seize one of the young men and take his armor." But Asahel would not turn aside.

22 Então, Abner disse novamente a Asael: "Para de me perseguir. Por que eu deveria te derrubar ao chão? Como eu me apresentaria diante de Joabe, teu irmão?". 23 Mas, Asael recusou-se a desviar e, então, Abner o apunhalou com a sua lança e ela atravessou-lhe o estômago. Asael caiu e ali morreu. E aconteceu que todos que chegavam ao lugar em que Asael caíra morto, ficavam parados.

22 So Abner said again to Asahel, "Stop pursuing me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I hold up my face to Joab, your brother?" 23 But Asahel refused to turn aside, and so Abner stabbed him in the body with the blunt end of his spear, so that the spear came out the other side. Asahel fell down and died there. So it came about that anyone who arrived at the place where Asahel fell down and died, he stopped and stood still.

24 Mas Joabe e Abisai perseguiram Abner. Quando o sol estava se pondo, eles vieram para a colina de Amá, que é perto de Giá, próximo à estrada para o deserto de Gibeão. 25 Os homens de Benjamim reuniram-se atrás de Abner e ficaram no topo da colina.

24 But Joab and Abishai pursued Abner. When the sun was going down, they came to the hill of Ammah, which is near Giah by the road to the wilderness of Gibeon. 25 The men of Benjamin gathered themselves together behind Abner and stood on the top of the hill.

26 Então, Abner chamou Joabe e disse: "Será que a espada deve devorar para sempre? Tu não sabes que isto será amargo no final? Quanto tempo isto levará até que tu digas para teus homens pararem de perseguir seus irmãos?". 27 Joabe respondeu: "Assim como Deus vive, se tu não tivesses dito isso, meus soldados teriam perseguido seus irmãos até pela manhã!".

26 Then Abner called to Joab and said, "Must the sword devour forever? Do you not know it will be bitter in the end? How long will it be before you tell your men to stop pursuing their brothers?" 27 Joab replied, "Just as God lives, if you had not said that, my soldiers would have pursued their brothers until the morning!"

28 Então, Joabe tocou a trombeta, e todos os seus homens pararam e não mais perseguiram Israel, nem lutaram mais. 29 Abner e seus homens viajaram toda aquela noite, por Arabá; eles cruzaram o Jordão, marcharam durante toda a manhã seguinte e, então, alcançaram Maanaim.

28 So Joab blew the trumpet, and all his men stopped and did not pursue Israel anymore, nor did they fight anymore. 29 Abner and his men traveled all that night through the Arabah. They crossed the Jordan, marched all the next morning, and then reached Mahanaim.

30 Joabe retornou da perseguição a Abner. Ele reuniu todos os seus homens, dos quais estavam faltando Asael e dezenove dos soldados de Davi. 31 Todavia, os homens de Davi mataram trezentos e sessenta homens de Benjamim, dentre os homens de Abner. 32 Então, eles pegaram Asael e o enterraram no túmulo de seu pai, que era em Belém. Joabe e seus homens viajaram toda a noite, e amanheceu-lhes o dia em Hebrom.

30 Joab returned from pursuing Abner. He assembled all his people, from whom were missing Asahel and nineteen of David's servants. 31 But the servants of David had slaughtered from Benjamin and of Abner's men 360 men who died. 32 Then they took up Asahel and buried him in the tomb of his father, which was in Bethlehem. Joab and his men traveled all night, and the day dawned on them at Hebron.
