1 Joás tinha sete anos quando começou seu reinado; reinou por quarenta anos em Jerusalém. O nome de sua mãe era Zíbia, de Berseba. 2 Joás fez o que era bom aos olhos de Yahweh em todos os dias do sacerdote Joiada. 3 Joiada tomou duas mulheres para ele, e tornou-se pai de filhos e filhas.

1 Joash was seven years old when he began to reign; he reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah, of Beersheba. 2 Joash did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh all the days of Jehoiada, the priest. 3 Jehoiada took for him two wives, and he became the father of sons and daughters.

4 Aconteceu, depois dessas coisas, que Joás decidiu restaurar a casa de Yahweh. 5 Ele reuniu os sacerdotes e levitas, e disse-lhes: "Ide todos os anos nas cidades de Judá e recolham de todo o Israel dinheiro para a restauração da casa de vosso Deus. Tenham certeza de começar logo". De inicio os levitas nada fizeram.

4 It came about after this, that Joash decided to restore the house of Yahweh. 5 He gathered together the priests and the Levites, and he said to them, "Go out every year to the cities of Judah and gather from all Israel money to repair the house of your God. Make sure that you start right away." The Levites did nothing at first.

6 Assim, o rei chamou Joiada, o sumo sacerdote, e disse-lhe: "Por que não requerestes dos levitas que trouxessem de Judá e Jerusalém a taxa estabelecida por Moisés, o servo de Yahweh, e pela assembleia de Israel, para a tenda dos decretos da aliança?". 7 Pois os filhos de Atalia, aquela mulher ímpia, que arruinaram a Casa de Deus, e deram todas as coisas sagradas da Casa de Yahweh aos cultos aos baalins.

6 So the king called for Jehoiada the high priest and said to him, "Why have you not required the Levites to bring in from Judah and Jerusalem the tax levied by Moses the servant of Yahweh and by the assembly of Israel for the tent of the covenant decrees?" 7 For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God and had given all the holy things of the house of Yahweh to the Baals.

8 Assim, o rei ordenou e fizeram um baú e o colocaram do lado de fora da entrada da casa de Yahweh. 9 Então, anunciaram em Judá e Jerusalém, para que o povo trouxesse para Yahweh as taxas que Moisés o servo de Deus estabeleceu para Israel no deserto. 10 Todos os líderes e todo o povo regozijaram e trouxeram o dinheiro e colocaram no baú até terminar de enchê-lo.

8 So the king commanded, and they made a chest and placed it outside at the entrance to the house of Yahweh. 9 Then they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, for the people to bring in for Yahweh the tax that Moses the servant of God levied on Israel in the wilderness. 10 All the leaders and all the people rejoiced and brought money in and put it into the chest until they finished filling it.

11 Aconteceu que, sempre que traziam o baú aos oficiais do rei pela mão dos levitas, e sempre que viam que havia muito dinheiro nele, o escriba do rei e o oficial do sumo sacerdote vinham e esvaziavam o baú, e o levavam de volta ao seu lugar. Fizeram isso dia após dia, juntando uma grande quantidade de dinheiro. 12 O rei e Joiada deram o dinheiro para aqueles que fizeram o trabalho de servir na casa de Yahweh. Esses homens contrataram pedreiros e carpinteiros para restaurar a casa de Yahweh, e também aqueles que trabalhavam com ferro e bronze.

11 It happened that whenever the chest was brought to the king's officials by the hand of the Levites, and whenever they saw that there was much money in it, the king's scribe and the high priest's official would come, empty the chest, and take it and carry it back to its place. They did this day after day, gathering large amounts of money. 12 The king and Jehoiada gave the money to those who did the work of serving in the house of Yahweh. These men hired stonemasons and carpenters to restore the house of Yahweh, and also those who worked in iron and bronze.

13 Aqueles que tinham o encargo do trabalho faziam que o trabalho de reparação fosse crescendo por suas mãos. Eles restauraram a casa de Deus em seu desenho original e o fortaleceu. 14 Quando terminaram, trouxeram o resto do dinheiro ao rei e a Joiada. Este dinheiro foi usado para fazer movéis para a casa de Yahweh, utensílios nas quais para servir e fazer ofertas, colheres e utensílios de ouro e prata. Ofereceram ofertas queimadas na Casa de Yahweh continuamente, todos os dias de Joiada.

13 So the workmen labored, and the work of repairing went forward in their hands; they set up the house of God in its original design and strengthened it. 14 When they finished, they brought the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada. This money was used to make furnishings for the house of Yahweh, utensils with which to serve and make offerings—spoons and utensils of gold and silver. They offered burnt offerings in the house of Yahweh continually for all the days of Jehoiada.

15 Joiada envelheceu e estava com idade avançada de cento e trinta anos de idade quando morreu. 16 O sepultaram na cidade de Davi, junto com os reis, porque ele havia feito o bem em Israel, para com Deus, e à Casa de Deus.

15 Jehoiada grew old and was full of days, and then he died; he was 130 years old when he died. 16 They buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, toward God, and to the house of God.

17 Após a morte de Joiada, os lideres de Judá vieram e honraram o rei. E o rei os ouviu. 18 Eles abandonaram a Casa de Yahweh, o Deus de seus ancestrais, e louvaram aos deuses de Astarote e os ídolos. A ira de Deus veio sobre Judá e Jerusalém por causa dos erros deles. 19 Mesmo assim Ele lhes enviou profetas para os trazer de volta a Yahweh. Os profetas testificaram contra o povo, mas, eles se recusaram a ouví-los.

17 Now after the death of Jehoiada, the leaders of Judah came and did honor to the king. Then the king listened to them. 18 They forsook the house of Yahweh, the God of their ancestors, and worshiped the Asherah gods and the idols. God's anger came on Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs. 19 Yet he sent prophets to them to bring them again to himself, Yahweh; the prophets testified against the people, but they refused to listen.

20 O Espírito de Deus veio sobre Zacarias filho do sacerdote Joiada. Zacarias se levantou sobre o povo e disse-lhes: "Disse Deus: 'Por que vós estais transgredindo os mandamentos de Yahweh, fazendo com que não prospereis? Desde quando abandonaram Yahweh, Ele também vos abandonou'". 21 Mas eles conspiraram contra ele. Sob a ordem do rei, eles o apredejaram no pátio da casa de Yahweh. 22 Desta forma, o rei Joás ignorou a bondade que Joiada, pai de Zacarias, fizera com ele. Ao invés disso, ele matou o filho de Joiada. Quando Zacarias estava morrendo, disse: "Que Yahweh veja e te faça prestar contas disso".

20 The Spirit of God clothed Zechariah son of Jehoiada, the priest; Zechariah stood above the people and said to them, "God says this: Why do you transgress the commandments of Yahweh, so that you cannot prosper? Since you have forsaken Yahweh, he has also forsaken you." 21 But they plotted against him; at the king's command, they stoned him with stones in the courtyard of the house of Yahweh. 22 In this manner, Joash, the king, ignored the kindness that Jehoiada, Zechariah's father, had done to him. Instead, he killed Jehoiada's son. When Zechariah was dying, he said, "May Yahweh see this and call you to account."

23 E aconteceu que, no final do ano, o exército da Síria se levantou contra Joás. Eles vieram a Judá e Jerusalém; mataram todos os líderes do povo, e enviaram todos os despojos ao rei de Damasco. 24 O exército de sírios vieram com um exército pequeno, mas Yahweh os deu a vitória sobre um grande exército, pois Judá abandonou Yahweh, o Deus de seus ancestrais. Dessa forma, os sirios trouxeram o julgamento sobre Joás.

23 It came about at the end of the year, that the army of Aram came up against Joash. They came to Judah and Jerusalem; they destroyed all the leaders of the people and sent all the plunder from them to the king of Damascus. 24 Although the army of the Arameans had come with only a few soldiers, Yahweh gave them victory over a very great army, because Judah had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their ancestors. In this way the Arameans brought judgment on Joash.

25 Quando os sírios se foram, deixaram Joás gravemente ferido. E seus próprios servos conspiraram contra ele, por causa do assassinato do filho do sacerdote Joiada. Eles o mataram em sua cama e o sepultaram na cidade de Davi, mas não nas tumbas dos reis. 26 Estes foram os que conspiraram contra ele: foram Zabade, filho de Simeate, a amonita, e Jeozabade, filho de Sinrite, a moabita.

25 By the time that the Arameans had gone, Joash had been severely wounded. His own servants plotted against him because of the blood of the sons of Jehoiada, the priest. They killed him in his bed, and he died; they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings. 26 These were the persons who plotted against him: Zabad son of Shimeath, an Ammonite woman; and Jehozabad son of Shimrith, a Moabite woman.

27 Quanto aos filhos de Joás, as importantes profecias ditas sobre ele e a reconstrução da casa de Deus, eis que estão escritos no livro dos reis. E Amazias, seu filho, tornou-se rei em seu lugar.

27 Now the accounts about his sons, the important prophecies that were spoken about him, and the rebuilding of the house of God, see, they are written in the commentary on the book of the kings. Amaziah his son became king in his place.
