1 Josáfa, rei de Judá, retornou em paz para sua casa em Jerusalém. 2 Então, Jeú, filho de Hanani, o vidente, foi ao encontro do rei Josafá e lhe disse: "Deverias tu ajudar o perverso? Deverias tu amar aqueles que odeiam Yahweh? Por isso, a ira de Yahweh está sobre ti. 3 No entanto, alguma bondade pode ser encontrada em ti, porque tiraste os postes de Aserá da terra e dispuseste teu coração a buscar a Deus".

1 Jehoshaphat the king of Judah safely returned to his house in Jerusalem. 2 Then Jehu son of Hanani, the seer, went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, "Should you be helping the wicked? Should you be loving those who hate Yahweh? For this deed, anger from Yahweh is on you. 3 However, there is some good to be found in you, in that you have taken the Asherah poles out of the land, and you have fixed your heart to seek God."

4 Josafá viveu em Jerusalém e foi novamente passar pelo meio do povo, de Berseba até as regiões montanhosas de Efraim, e os trouxe de volta a Yahweh, o Deus de seus pais. 5 Ele estabeleceu juízes na terra de uma a outra extremidade, em todas as cidades fortificadas de Judá, cidade por cidade.

4 Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem; and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and brought them back to Yahweh, the God of their fathers. 5 He placed judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city.

6 Ele disse aos juízes: "Considerai o que fareis, porque não julgareis para homens, mas para Yahweh! Ele está convosco nos julgamentos. 7 Que o temor de Yahweh esteja sobre vós. Sede cuidadosos quando julgardes, pois não há iniquidade com Yahweh, vosso Deus, nem qualquer favoritismo ou barganha".

6 He said to the judges, "Consider what you should do, because you are not judging for man, but for Yahweh; he is with you in the act of judging. 7 Now then, let the fear of Yahweh be upon you. Be careful when you judge, for there is no iniquity with Yahweh our God, nor is there any favoritism or bribe taking."

8 Além disso, em Jerusalém, Josafá nomeou alguns dos levitas, sacerdotes e alguns dos ancestrais das famílias de Israel para cuidar dos julgamentos para Yahweh e por causa das disputas. Então, retornaram a Jerusalém. 9 Ele os instruiu, dizendo-lhes: "Deveis servir em reverência a Yahweh, com fidelidade e com um coração perfeito. Isso é o que deveis fazer:

8 Moreover, in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites and the priests, and some of the heads of the families of Israel, for carrying out judgment for Yahweh, and for the sake of disputes. They lived in Jerusalem. 9 He instructed them, saying, "You must serve in reverence for Yahweh, faithfully, and with your whole heart.

10 Sempre que chegar até vós alguma controvérsia de vossos irmãos que vivem em vossas cidades, seja sobre derramamento de sangue, sobre leis e mandamentos, sobre estatutos ou decretos, devereis avisá-los para que não cometam pecado contra Yahweh, e então Sua ira não virá sobre vós e sobre vossos irmãos. Se agirdes dessa forma, não sereis culpados.

10 Whenever any dispute comes to you from your brothers who live in their cities, whether concerning bloodshed, whether about laws and commands, statutes or decrees, you must warn them, so they do not become guilty before Yahweh, or anger will come toward you and toward your brothers. If you do this, you will not be guilty.

11 Vede! Amarias, o chefe dos sacerdotes, presidirá sobre vós nos negócios que pertencem a Yahweh; Zebadias, filho de Ismael, chefe da tribo de Judá, está encarregado de todos os assuntos do rei; e também os levitas serão oficiais a vosso serviço. Procedei corajosamente, e que Yahweh esteja com aqueles que são bons".

11 See, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all the matters of Yahweh. Zebadiah son of Ishmael, the leader of the house of Judah, is in charge of all the matters of the king. Also, the Levites will be officers serving you. Be strong and obey your instructions, and may Yahweh be with those who are good."
