1 Josafá dormiu com seus ancestrais e foi sepultado com eles, na cidade de Davi; Jeorão, seu filho, tornou-se rei em seu lugar. 2 Jeorão tinha irmãos, filhos de Josafá: Azarias, Jeiel, Zacarias, Azarias, Micael e Sefatias. Todos eram filhos de Josafá, rei de Israel. 3 Seu pai tinha lhes dado grandes presentes de prata, ouro, outras coisas preciosas e também as cidades fortificadas de Judá; mas ele deu o trono a Jeorão porque ele era seu primogênito.

1 Jehoshaphat lay down with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of David; Jehoram, his son, became king in his place. 2 Jehoram had brothers, sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariahu, Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were sons of Jehoshaphat, king of Israel. 3 Their father had given them large gifts of silver, gold, and other precious things, and also fortified cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram.

4 Quando Jeorão assumiu o reino de seu pai e se estabeleceu firmemente como rei, matou todos os seus irmãos com a espada e também vários outros líderes de Israel. 5 Jeorão tinha trinta e dois anos quando começou a reinar e reinou por oito anos em Jerusalém.

4 Now when Jehoram had risen up over his father's kingdom and had firmly established himself as king, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and also various other leaders of Israel. 5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem.

6 Ele andou pelos caminhos dos reis de Israel, como a casa de Acabe estava fazendo, pois havia tomado a filha de Acabe como sua esposa, ele fez o que era mau à vista de Yahweh. 7 No entanto, Yahweh não quis destruir a casa de Davi, por causa da aliança que tinha feito com Davi; pois Ele havia prometido que sempre lhe daria vida e aos seus descendentes.

6 He walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab was doing, for he had Ahab's daughter as his wife, and he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh. 7 However, Yahweh did not wish to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David; he had promised that he would always give a lamp to him and his descendants.

8 Nos dias de Jeorão, Edom se revoltou do controle de Judá e instituiu um rei. 9 Então, Jeorão atravessou com o seus comandantes e todas as suas carruagens. Isso aconteceu quando se levantou à noite e lutou contra os edomitas, os quais tinham cercado a ele e aos comandantes de suas carruagens. 10 Assim, Edom tinha estado em rebelião do poder de Judá até este presente dia. Libna também se revoltou ao mesmo tempo do seu controle, porque Jeorão tinha deixado Yahweh, o Deus de seus antepassados.

8 In Jehoram's days, Edom rebelled against the control of Judah, and they set a king over themselves. 9 Then Jehoram crossed over with his commanders and all his chariots. It was night when he rose up and fought against the Edomites who had surrounded him and his chariot commanders. 10 So Edom has been in rebellion from the control of Judah to this present day. Libnah also revolted at the same time from his control, because Jehoram had forsaken Yahweh, the God of his ancestors.

11 Além disso, Jeorão tinha construído lugares altos nas montanhas de Judá e fez os habitantes de Jerusalém viverem como prostitutas. Ele levou Judá à perdição.

11 In addition, Jehoram had also built high places in the mountains of Judah and he made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to live like prostitutes, and he led Judah astray.

12 Então veio a Jeorão a carta do profeta Elias. Ela dizia: "Isto é o que Yahweh, o Deus de Davi, teu ancestral, diz: Porque não andaste nos caminhos de Josafá, teu pai, nem nos caminhos de Asa, rei de Judá, 13 mas tens andado nos caminhos dos reis de Israel e fizeste Judá e seus habitantes de Jerusalém agirem como uma prostituta, como a casa de Acabe fez, e porque mataste com a espada teus irmãos na família de teu pai, homens que eram melhores que tu, 14 vê, Yahweh atacará com uma grande praga o teu povo, tuas crianças, tuas mulheres e todos os teus bens. 15 Tu mesmo ficarás muito enfermo por causa de uma doença em teus intestinos, até teus intestinos cairão fora por causa da doença, dia após dia'".

12 A letter from the prophet Elijah came to Jehoram. It said, "This is what Yahweh, the God of David, your ancestor, says: Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat, your father, nor in the ways of Asa, king of Judah, 13 but have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to act like a prostitute, as the house of Ahab did—and because you have also killed your brothers in your father's house, men who were better than yourself— 14 see, Yahweh will strike your people, your children, your wives, and all your possessions with a heavy blow. 15 You yourself will have much sickness with a disease in your intestines, until the disease causes your intestines to come out, and this will continue day after day."

16 Yahweh despertou contra Jeorão os espíritos dos filisteus e dos árabes que estavam perto dos etíopes. 17 Eles atacaram Judá, invadiram seu território e levaram todos os bens que foram encontrados na casa do rei. Eles também carregaram seus filhos e suas mulheres. Nenhum filho foi deixado a ele, exceto Jeoacaz, o mais novo.

16 Yahweh stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and of the Arabians who were near the Cushites. 17 They attacked Judah, invaded it, and carried away all the wealth that was found in the king's house. They also carried away his sons and his wives. No son was left to him except Jehoahaz, his youngest son.

18 Depois de tudo disso, Yahweh o feriu com uma doença incurável no intestino. 19 Aconteceu, no devido tempo, no final de dois anos, que seus intestinos caíram fora por conta da sua doença, e ele morreu dessa doença severa. Seu povo não fez fogo em sua honra como tinha feito para os seus antepassados. 20 Ele começou a reinar quando tinha trinta e dois anos, reinou em Jerusalém por oito anos e morreu sem lamentação. Foi sepultado na cidade de Davi, mas não nos túmulos reais.

18 After all this, Yahweh struck him in his intestines with an incurable disease. 19 It came about in due time, at the end of two years, that his intestines fell out because of his sickness, and that he died of severe disease. His people made no fire in his honor as they had done for his ancestors. 20 He had begun to reign when he was thirty-two years old; he reigned in Jerusalem for eight years, and when he departed no one mourned him. They buried him in the city of David, but not in the royal tombs.
