1 Quando o rei Dario havia governado por quatro anos, no quarto dia do mês de Quisleu (que era o nono mês), a palavra de Yahweh veio a Zacarias. 2 O povo de Betel enviou Sarezer, Regem-Meleque e os seus homens para suplicarem diante da face de Yahweh. 3 Eles perguntaram aos sacerdotes que estavam na casa de Yahweh dos Exércitos e para os profetas, dizendo: "Porventura, devo lamentar por meio de um jejum neste quinto mês, como tenho feito durante muitos anos?".

1 When King Darius had been ruler for four years, on the fourth day of Kislev (which was the ninth month), the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah. 2 The people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-Melek and their men to beg before the face of Yahweh. 3 They spoke to the priests who were at the house of Yahweh of hosts and to the prophets; they said, "Should I mourn in the fifth month by means of a fast, as I have done these many years?"

4 Então, a palavra de Yahweh dos Exércitos veio a mim, dizendo: 5 "Fala para todo o povo da terra e para o sacerdote e dize-lhes: 'Quando jejuastes e pranteastes no quinto e no sétimo mês, durante esses setenta anos, verdadeiramente, jejuastes para Mim? 6 Quando comiam e bebiam, não comiam e bebiam para vós mesmos? 7 Porventura, não são as mesmas palavras que Yahweh proclamava por meio da boca dos antigos profetas, quando habitavam em Jerusalém e nas cidades ao redor, em prosperidade, e fostes assentados no Neguebe e nas colinas ao oeste?'".

4 So the word of Yahweh of hosts came to me, saying, 5 "Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests and say, 'When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month for these seventy years, were you truly fasting for me? 6 When you ate and drank, did you not eat and drink for yourselves? 7 Were these not the same words that Yahweh proclaimed by the hand of the former prophets, when Jerusalem and the surrounding cities were inhabited and prosperous, and the Negev and the lowlands to the west were inhabited?'"

8 A palavra de Yahweh veio a Zacarias, dizendo: 9 "Yahweh dos Exércitos diz isto: 'Julgai com a verdadeira justiça, piedade e misericórdia. Que cada um faça isso ao seu irmão. 10 Acerca da viúva e do órfão, do estrangeiro e do pobre, não os oprimais, e que nenhum de vós intenteis o mal contra o outro, no vosso coração'".

8 The word of Yahweh came to Zechariah, saying, 9 "Yahweh of hosts says this, 'Judge with true justice, covenant faithfulness, and mercy. Let each man do this for his brother. 10 About the widow and orphan, the foreigner, and the poor person—do not oppress them, and let none of you plot any harm against another in your heart.'

11 Mas eles se recusaram a prestar atenção, virando as costas com teimosia. Eles taparam seus ouvidos para não ouvirem. 12 Eles endureceram seu coração, que se tornou duro como diamante, e não quiseram ouvir a lei nem as palavras de Yahweh dos Exércitos. Ele havia enviado essas mensagens para o povo, por meio do Seu Espírito, no tempo antigo, pela boca dos profetas. Mas o povo se recusou a ouvir e Yahweh dos Exércitos ficou muito irado com eles.

11 But they refused to pay attention and set their shoulders stubbornly. They stopped up their ears so they would not hear. 12 They made their hearts as hard as rock so they would not hear the law or the words of Yahweh of hosts. He had sent these messages to the people by his Spirit in earlier times, by the mouth of the prophets. But the people refused to listen, so Yahweh of hosts was very angry with them.

13 "Assim como clamei e eles não ouviram; da mesma forma clamarão a Mim, mas não lhes ouvirei", disse Yahweh dos Exércitos. 14 "E os espalharei como um vendaval por todas as nações que eles ainda não viram e a terra ficará desolada depois deles, de sorte que ninguém passará pela terra, nem retornará por lá, porque transformaram sua linda terra numa desolação".

13 It happened that when he called, they did not listen. In the same way," said Yahweh of hosts, "they will call out to me, but I will not listen. 14 For I will scatter them with a whirlwind to all the nations that they have not known, and the land will be desolate after them. For no one will pass through the land or return to it since the people have made their delightful land into a wasteland."
