1 Eu pergunto então: Deus rejeitou Seu povo? De modo algum. Pois eu também sou um israelita, um descendente de Abraão, da tribo de Benjamim. 2 Deus não rejeitou Seu povo, a quem de antemão conheceu. Não sabeis o que a Escritura diz sobre Elias, como ele suplicou ao Senhor contra Israel? 3 "Senhor, eles mataram Teus profetas, quebraram Teus altares, e só eu fiquei, e eles buscam tirar minha vida".

1 I say then, did God reject his people? May it never be. For I also am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Do you not know what the scripture says about Elijah, how he pleaded with God against Israel? 3 "Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have broken down your altars. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life."

4 Mas, o que Deus lhe respondeu? "Eu reservei para Mim mesmo sete mil homens que não dobraram os joelhos a Baal". 5 Assim também, neste tempo presente, há um remanescente, por causa da eleição da graça.

4 But what does God's answer say to him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bent the knee to Baal." 5 Even so then, at this present time also there is a remnant because of the choice of grace.

6 Mas, se é pela graça, já não é mais pelas obras. Caso contrário, a graça não seria graça. [(Algumas cópias antigas traduzem:) "Todavia, se é por obras, então não é mais pela graça; de outra maneira, obras não seriam obras".] 7 E então? As coisas que Israel procura, isso não alcançou, mas os eleitos as alcançaram, e os demais foram endurecidos. 8 Exatamente como está escrito: "Deus lhes deu um espírito de entorpecimento, olhos para que não vejam, e ouvidos para que não ouçam, até o dia de hoje".

6 But if it is by grace, it is no longer based on works. Otherwise grace would no longer be grace. [[ Some old copies read " But if it is by works, then it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work " . ]] 7 What then? The thing that Israel was seeking, it did not obtain, but the chosen obtained it, and the rest were hardened. 8 It is just as it is written: "God has given them a spirit of dullness, eyes so that they should not see, and ears so that they should not hear, to this very day."

9 Então Davi diz: "Que sua mesa se torne uma rede e uma armadilha, uma pedra de tropeço e uma retaliação para eles. 10 Que seus olhos sejam escurecidos para que não vejam, e as suas costas encurvadas para sempre".

9 Then David says, "Let their table become a net and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them. 10 Let their eyes be darkened so that they may not see, and bend their backs continually."

11 Pergunto, então: eles tropeçaram para cair? De maneira alguma. Em vez disso, por seu fracasso, veio a salvação para os gentios, a fim de provocar-lhes ciúmes. 12 Agora, se o fracasso deles é a riqueza do mundo, e a sua perda é a riqueza dos gentios, quanto maior será sua plenitude?

11 I say then, "Did they stumble so as to fall?" May it never be. Instead, by their trespass, salvation has come to the Gentiles, in order to provoke them to jealousy. 12 Now if their trespass is the riches of the world, and if their loss is the riches of the Gentiles, how much greater will their fulfillment be?

13 Mas agora falo a vós, gentios, uma vez que sou um apóstolo para os gentios, glorifico o meu ministério. 14 Talvez eu provocarei ciúmes àqueles que são da minha própria carne, e, talvez, alguns sejam salvos.

13 But now I am speaking to you Gentiles, and as long as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I take pride in my ministry. 14 Perhaps I will provoke to jealousy those who are of my own flesh. Perhaps we will save some of them.

15 Pois, se a rejeição deles é a reconciliação do mundo, o que será a sua aceitação, senão vida dentre os mortos? 16 Se os primeiros frutos são santos, a massa também é; se a raiz é santa, os ramos também são.

15 For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? 16 If the firstfruits are holy, so is the lump of dough. If the root is holy, so are the branches.

17 Mas, se alguns dos ramos foram quebrados, e tu, um ramo de oliveira silvestre, foste enxertado entre eles, e te tornaste participante com eles da rica raiz da oliveira, 18 não te glories contra os ramos. Mas, se te gloriares, sabe que não és tu que suportas a raiz, mas a raiz que te suporta.

17 But if some of the branches were broken off, if you, a wild olive branch, were grafted in among them, and if you shared with them in the rich root of the olive tree, 18 do not boast over the branches. But if you do boast, it is not you who supports the root, but the root that supports you.

19 Tu então dirás: "Os ramos foram quebrados para que eu fosse enxertado". 20 Verdade! Por causa da incredulidade deles, eles foram quebrados, mas tu permaneces por tua fé. Não penses muito de ti mesmo, mas teme. 21 Porque, se Deus não poupou os ramos naturais, também não te poupará.

19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in." 20 That is true. Because of their unbelief they were broken off, but you stand firm because of your faith. Do not be arrogant in your thoughts, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.

22 Observa, então, a bondade e a severidade de Deus. Por um lado, a severidade veio sobre os judeus que caíram; mas por outro lado, a bondade de Deus veio sobre ti, se permaneceres em Sua bondade. Caso contrário, tu também serás cortado.

22 Look at, then, the kind actions and the severity of God: severity came on the Jews who fell, but God's kindness comes on you, if you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.

23 E eles também, se não permanecerem na sua incredulidade, serão enxertados de volta. Pois Deus é capaz de enxertá-los novamente. 24 Porque, se foste cortado da oliveira silvestre por natureza e, contrariamente à natureza, foste enxertado na boa oliveira, quanto mais os judeus, que são ramos naturais, serão enxertados de volta em sua própria oliveira?

23 And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in. For God is able to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut out of what is by nature a wild olive tree, and contrary to nature were grafted into a good olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree?

25 Porque, irmãos, eu não quero que fiqueis sem saber deste mistério, a fim de que não sejais sábios em vosso próprio pensamento. Este mistério é que ocorreu um endurecimento parcial a Israel, até que chegue a plenitude dos gentios.

25 For I do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, of this mystery, so that you may not be wise in your own thinking: A partial hardening has come upon Israel until the full number of the Gentiles comes in.

26 Assim, todo o Israel será salvo, como está escrito: "Virá de Sião o Libertador. Ele removerá a impiedade de Jacó. 27 E esta será a Minha aliança com eles, quando Eu retirar os seus pecados".

26 Thus all Israel will be saved, just as it is written: "Out of Zion will come the Deliverer. He will remove ungodliness from Jacob, 27 and this will be my covenant with them, when I will take away their sins."\m

28 Quanto ao Evangelho, eles são odiados por vossa causa; todavia, quanto à escolha de Deus, eles são amados por causa dos antepassados. 29 Pois os dons e o chamado de Deus são imutáveis.

28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake. But as far as election is concerned, they are beloved because of the patriarchs. 29 For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.

30 Pois, antigamente, fostes desobedientes a Deus; mas, agora, recebestes misericórdia por causa da desobediência deles. 31 Do mesmo modo, esses judeus agora têm sido desobedientes. O resultado foi que, através da misericórdia mostrada a vós, eles também podem receber misericórdia agora. 32 Pois Deus encerrou todos dentro da desobediência, a fim de que Ele tenha misericórdia de todos.

30 For just as you were formerly disobedient to God, now you have received mercy because of their disobedience. 31 In the same way, now these Jews have been disobedient. The result was that by the mercy shown to you they may also now receive mercy. 32 For God has shut up all into disobedience in order that he might show mercy on all.

33 Ó profundidade da riqueza, da sabedoria e do conhecimento de Deus! Quão insondáveis são os Seus juízos, e os Seus caminhos incompreensíveis! 34 Pois quem conheceu a mente do Senhor? Ou quem se tornou Seu conselheiro?

33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways beyond discovering! 34 "For who has known the mind of the Lord or who has become his advisor?

35 Ou quem primeiro Lhe deu alguma coisa, para que Deus lhe retribua?" 36 Pois Dele, por Ele e para Ele são todas as coisas. A Ele seja a glória para sempre. Amém.

35 Or who has first given anything to God, that God must repay him?" 36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen.
