1 Essa é a palavra de Yahweh que veio a Jeremias a respeito da seca: 2 "Judá lamenta e suas portas estão enfraquecidas. Eles estão lamentando sentados no chão. Seu choro por Jerusalem está subindo. 3 Os poderosos enviam seus servos em busca de água. Quando vão até as trincheiras, não encontram água. Todos eles retornam sem sucesso; envergonhados e frustrados, cobrem suas cabeças.

1 This is the word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah regarding the drought, 2 "Let Judah mourn; let her gates fall apart. They are wailing for the land; their cries for Jerusalem are going up. 3 Their mighty ones send out their servants for water. When they go to the trenches, they cannot find water. They all return unsuccessful; they cover their heads ashamed and dishonored.

4 Por não haver chuva, a terra está rachada. Os lavradores estão envergonhados e cobrem suas cabeças. 5 Até a corça deixa seus filhotes nos campos e os abandona, pois não há erva. 6 Os burros selvagens ficam nas planícies lisas e farejam no vento, como chacais. Seus olhos desfalecem porque não há vegetação".

4 Because of this the ground is cracked, for there is no rain in the land. The plowmen are ashamed and cover their heads. 5 For even the doe leaves her young in the fields and abandons them, for there is no grass. 6 The wild donkeys stand on the bare plains and they pant in the wind like jackals. Their eyes fail to work, for there is no vegetation."

7 Mesmo que nossas iniquidades testemunhem contra nós, Yahweh, age por causa do Teu nome. Nossas ações infiéis aumentaram; nós temos pecado contra Ti. 8 Ó esperança de Israel, quem o salvou no tempo da angústia. Por que serás como um estrangeiro na terra, como um viajante estrangeiro que vem e passa apenas uma noite? 9 Por que serás como um homem confuso, como um guerreiro que não é capaz de resgatar ninguém? Pois Tu estás em nosso meio, Yahweh! Teu nome foi proclamado sobre nós. Não nos abandone.

7 Even though our iniquities testify against us, Yahweh, act for the sake of your name.2 For our faithless actions increase; we have sinned against you.2 8 You are the Hope of Israel, the one who saves him in the time of distress,2 why will you be like a stranger in the land, like a foreign wanderer who stretches out and spends just one night?2 9 Why are you like someone who is astounded, or like a warrior who has no power to rescue?2 You are in our midst, Yahweh, and your name is called over us. Do not leave us!

10 Yahweh disse sobre este povo: "Uma vez que eles amam vaguear, eles não têm impedido seus pés de fazê-lo". Yahweh não Se agrada deles. Agora, Ele Se lembrará de suas iniquidades e punirá os seus pecados. 11 Yahweh disse a mim: "Não ore pelo bem desse povo. 12 Quando jejuarem, não ouvirei sua lamentação e, se eles oferecerem holocausto e ofertas de alimento, não terei prazer neles. Vou destruí-los pela espada, pelo fome e pela praga".

10 Yahweh says this to this people: "Since they love to wander, they have not held back their feet from doing so." Yahweh is not pleased with them. Now he calls to mind their iniquity and has punished their sins. 11 Yahweh said to me, "Do not pray for good on behalf of this people. 12 For if they fast, I will not listen to their wailing, and if they offer up burnt offerings and food offerings, I will not take pleasure in them. For I will put an end to them by sword, famine, and plague."

13 Então eu disse: "Oh, Senhor Yahweh! Eis que os profetas estão dizendo ao povo: 'Vós não vereis a espada, não haverá fome para vós, pois eu lhes darei a verdadeira segurança neste lugar'. 14 Yahweh disse a mim: "Os profetas profetizaram mentiras em Meu nome. Eu não os enviei, nem lhes dei ordem alguma ou falei com eles. Eles vos profetizam falsas visões, adivinhações, doutrinas inúteis e o engano de suas próprias mentes e corações!”

13 Then I said, "Oh, Lord Yahweh! Behold! The prophets are saying to the people, 'You will not see the sword; there will be no famine for you, for I will give you true security in this place.'" 14 Yahweh said to me, "The prophets prophesy deceit in my name. I did not send them out, nor did I give them any command or speak to them. But deceitful visions and useless, deceitful divination coming from their own minds are what they are prophesying to you."

15 Portanto, Yahweh disse: "Sobre os profetas que estão profetizando em Meu nome, sem que Eu os tenha enviado, aqueles que dizem que não haverá espada e nem fome nesta terra, estes profetas irão perecer por espada e fome; 16 e o povo a quem eles profetizaram serão jogados nas ruas de Jerusalém por conta da fome e da espada, pois não haverá ninguém para enterrá-los, nem eles, nem suas esposas, seus filhos e suas filhas; porque eu derramarei sobre eles sua própria iniquidade.

15 Therefore Yahweh says this, "About the prophets prophesying in my name but whom I did not send out—those who say there will be no sword or famine in this land: These prophets will perish by sword and famine. 16 Then the people to whom they prophesied will be thrown out in the streets of Jerusalem because of famine and sword, for there will be no one to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, or their daughters—for I will pour out their wickedness on them.

17 Diga esta palavra a eles: 'Deixai que meus olhos fluam em lágrimas, noite e dia. Que elas não cessem, pois haverá um grande colapso da filha virgem do Meu povo; uma profunda e incurável ferida. 18 Se Eu sair pelos campos, verei aqueles que foram mortos pela espada. E se eu for à cidade, verei aqueles que estão doentes de fome. O profeta e o sacerdote vagueiam sobre a terra, mas não sabem para onde vão".

17 Say this word to them: 'Let my eyes flow with tears, night and day. Do not let them stop, for there will be a great collapse of the virgin daughter of my people— a great and incurable wound. 18 If I go out to the field, there are the ones who were killed by the sword! If I come to the city, there are the diseases that are caused by famine. Both the prophet and the priest wander about the land, and they do not know.'"

19 Tu rejeitaste Judá completamente? Tu odeias Sião? Por que nos aflige quando não há cura para nós? Nós esperamos por paz, mas não há nada bom; por um tempo de cura, mas vê, há apenas terror. 20 Nós admitimos, Yahweh, nossas ofensas, e a iniquidade de nossos antepassados, pois temos pecado contra Ti.

19 Have you completely rejected Judah? Do you hate Zion? Why will you afflict us when there is no healing for us? We hoped for peace, but there was nothing good— and for a time of healing, but see, there is only terror. 20 We admit, Yahweh, our offenses, the iniquity of our ancestors, for we have sinned against you.

21 Não nos rejeites! Por causa do Teu nome, não faças do Teu glorioso trono uma desgraça. Lembra-Te daTua aliança conosco e não a anules. 22 Há entre os ídolos de outras nações, alguém que possa fazer cair chuva dos céus? Tu não és o único, Yahweh nosso Deus, quem o fazes? Nossa esperança está em Ti, pois Tu fazes todas estas coisas.

21 Do not reject us! For the sake of your name, do not make your glorious throne a disgrace. Remember and do not break your covenant with us. 22 Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Or can the skies themselves send down showers? Are you not the one, Yahweh our God? We wait for you, for you are the one who does all these things.
