1 Depois destas coisas, durante o reinado de Artaxerxes, rei da Pérsia, Esdras veio da Babilônia. Esdras era filho de Seraías, filho de Azarias, filho de Hilquias, 2 filho de Salum, filho de Zadoque, filho de Aitube, 3 filho de Amarias, filho de Azarias, filho de Meraiote, 4 filho de Zeraías, filho de Uzi, filho de Buqui, 5 filho de Abisua, filho de Fineias, filho de Eleazar, filho de Arão, o sumo sacerdote.

1 Now after this, during the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra came up from Babylon. Ezra's ancestors were Seraiah, Azariah, Hilkiah, 2 Shallum, Zadok, Ahitub, 3 Amariah, Azariah, Meraioth, 4 Zerahiah, Uzzi, Bukki, 5 Abishua, Phinehas, Eleazar, who was son of Aaron the high priest.

6 Esdras veio da Babilônia e ele era um hábil escriba na Lei de Moisés que Yahweh, o Deus de Israel, havia dado. O rei lhe concedeu tudo o que ele pediu, pois a mão de Yahweh era sobre ele. 7 Alguns dos descendentes de Israel e os sacerdotes, levitas, cantores do templo, porteiros e aqueles que foram designados para servirem no templo também subiram até Jerusalém no sétimo ano do rei Artaxerxes.

6 Ezra came up from Babylon and he was a skilled scribe in the law of Moses that Yahweh, the God of Israel, had given. The king gave him anything he asked since the hand of Yahweh was with him. 7 Some of the descendants of Israel and the priests, Levites, temple singers, gatekeepers, and those assigned to serve in the temple also went up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

8 Esdras chegou a Jerusalém no quinto mês daquele mesmo ano. 9 Ele saiu da Babilônia no primeiro dia do primeiro mês. Foi no primeiro dia do quinto mês que ele chegou em Jerusalém, porque a boa mão de Deus era sobre ele. 10 Esdras tinha determinado em seu coração estudar, seguir e ensinar os estatutos e juízos da Lei de Yahweh.

8 He arrived in Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was the seventh year of the king. 9 He left Babylon on the first day of the first month. It was on the first day of the fifth month that he arrived in Jerusalem, since the good hand of God was with him. 10 Ezra had established his heart to study the law of Yahweh and to carry out and teach its statutes and decrees in Israel.

11 Esta é a cópia da carta que o rei Artaxerxes deu a Esdras, o sacerdote e escriba que estudava os mandamentos e estatutos de Yahweh e os ensinava ao povo de Israel: 12 "O rei dos reis Artaxerxes ao sacerdote Esdras, escriba da Lei do Deus dos céus: 13 Estou ordenando que qualquer pessoa de Israel que vive no meu reino, juntamente com os seus sacerdotes e levitas, que desejar ir a Jerusalém, poderá ir contigo.

11 This was the copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, the scribe of the words of the commandments of Yahweh, and of his statutes for Israel. 12 "The King of kings Artaxerxes, to the priest Ezra, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven: 13 I hereby issue a decree that anyone from the people of Israel in my kingdom—along with their priests and Levites—who desires to go to Jerusalem may go with you.

14 Eu, o rei, e meus sete conselheiros, envio a todos vós, para investigardes em Judá e em Jerusalém a respeito da Lei de Deus, que está em vossas mãos. 15 Tu deves levar a prata e o ouro que o rei e os seus conselheiros voluntariamente ofereceram ao Deus de Israel, cuja habitação está em Jerusalém. 16 Além de toda a prata e ouro que receberes na província da Babilônia, bem como as ofertas voluntárias do povo e dos sacerdotes para o templo de Deus, em Jerusalém.

14 I, the king, and my seven counselors, send you all out to inquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem according to the law of your God, which is in your hand. 15 You are to bring the silver and gold that the king and his counselors have freely offered to the God of Israel, whose dwelling is in Jerusalem. 16 Freely give all the silver and gold that you find in the province of Babylon, along with the freewill offerings that the people and the priests have willingly offered for the house of God in Jerusalem.

17 Com este recurso, terás o cuidado de comprar bois, cordeiros, ovelhas e as ofertas de cereais e de bebida. Oferecei-os no altar que está no templo de vosso Deus, em Jerusalém. 18 Faze com o resto da prata e do ouro o que parecer melhor a ti e a teus irmãos, de acordo com a vontade do vosso Deus.

17 So use this money to buy in full the oxen, rams and lambs, and grain offerings and drink offerings. Offer them on the altar that is in the house of your God in Jerusalem. 18 Do with the rest of the silver and gold whatever seems good to you and your brothers, to please your God.

19 Entregai, diante do Deus Jerusalém, os objetos que vos foram dados para o serviço do templo do vosso Deus. 20 Qualquer outra coisa que for necessária para o templo do vosso Deus, o que vós quiserdes, será pago pelo tesouro real.

19 Place the objects that were freely given to you before him for the service of the house of your God in Jerusalem. 20 Anything else that is needed for the house of your God that you require, take its cost from the royal treasury.

21 Eu, o rei Artaxerxes, faço um decreto a todos os tesoureiros na província dalém do rio Eufrates, que qualquer coisa que Esdras vos solicitar lhe seja concedido prontamente, 22 até cem talentos de prata, cem coros de cereais, cem batos de vinho e cem batos de azeite, e sal à vontade. 23 Tudo que for ordenado pelo Deus dos céus, que seja feito com zelo para Seu templo. Por que deveria cair Sua ira sobre o meu reino e meus filhos?

21 I, King Artaxerxes, hereby issue a decree to all the treasurers in the Province Beyond the River, that anything that Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, asks from you should be given in full, 22 up to one hundred silver talents, one hundred cors of grain, one hundred baths of wine, and one hundred baths of oil, also salt without limit. 23 Anything that comes from the decree of the God of Heaven, do it with devotion for his house. For why should his wrath come upon the kingdom of the king and his sons?

24 Estamos informando a eles acerca de vós para que não imponham qualquer tributo ou imposto a nenhum dos sacerdotes, levitas, músicos, porteiros ou sobre as pessoas que foram designadas para o serviço do templo e aos servos do templo.

24 We are informing them that there is no authority to impose any tribute or taxes or tolls on any of the priests, Levites, musicians, gatekeepers, or on the people assigned to the service of the temple and servants of the house of this God.

25 Esdras, com a sabedoria que Deus tem te concedido, nomeie magistrados e juízes para servirem a todas as pessoas dalém do rio Eufrates, isto é, todos os que conhecem as leis do vosso Deus. E ensina-as aos que não as conhecem. 26 Todo aquele que não obedecer plenamente à lei do vosso Deus e à lei do rei seja punido ou com a morte, ou com o exílio, ou com o confisco dos seus bens, ou com a prisão".

25 Ezra, with the wisdom that God has given you, you must appoint judges and magistrates to judge all the people in the Province Beyond the River, and to serve all who know the laws of your God. You must also teach those who do not know the law. 26 As for whoever will not obey the law of your God and the law of the king—let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether death or banishment or confiscation of his goods or imprisonment.

27 Esdras orou dizendo: "Bendito seja Yahweh, o Deus de nossos antepassados, que pôs no coração do rei este propósito de glorificar o templo de Yahweh, em Jerusalém, 28 e que estendeu a mim a fidelidade da Sua aliança, diante do rei, dos seus conselheiros e de todos os seus príncipes poderosos. Tenho sido fortalecido pela mão de Yahweh, meu Deus, e reuni líderes de Israel para voltarem comigo".

27 Blessed be Yahweh, our ancestors' God, who placed all this into the king's heart to glorify the house of Yahweh in Jerusalem, 28 and who extended covenant faithfulness to me before the king, his counselors, and all his powerful officials. I have been strengthened by the hand of Yahweh my God, and I gathered prominent men from Israel to go with me.
