1 Então, os profetas Ageu e Zacarias, filho de Ido, o profeta, profetizaram em nome do Deus de Israel para os judeus em Judá e Jerusalém. 2 Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel e Jesua, filho de Jozadaque, se levantaram e começaram a construir o templo de Deus em Jerusalém, com os profetas os encorajando.

1 Then Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the prophet, a descendant of Iddo, prophesied in the name of the God of Israel to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem. 2 Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak rose up and began to build the house of God in Jerusalem with the prophets who supported them.

3 Então, Tatenai, o governador da província a oeste do Eufrates, Setar-Bozenai e seus companheiros vieram e lhes disseram: "Quem lhes deu ordem para construir este templo e concluir estes muros?" 4 Eles também disseram: "Quais os nomes dos homens que estão edificando esta construção?" 5 Mas os olhos de Deus estavam sobre os anciãos judeus, e seus inimigos não os fizeram parar. Eles estavam esperando que uma carta fosse enviada para rei Dario e a resposta a respeito disso.

3 Then Tattenai the governor of the Province Beyond the River, Shethar-Bozenai, and his associates came and said to them, "Who gave you a decree to build this house and complete these walls?" 4 They also said, "What are the names of the men building this building?" 5 But God's eye was on the Jewish elders and their enemies did not stop them. They were waiting for a letter to be sent to Darius and for a decree to be returned to them concerning this.

6 Esta foi a carta que Tatenai, o governador da província além do Eufrates, e Setar-Bozenai e seus companheiros oficiais, na província além do Eufrates, enviaram a Dario, o rei. 7 Eles enviaram um relatório dizendo ao rei Dario: "Toda paz esteja contigo.

6 This is a copy of the letter of Tattenai, governor of the Province Beyond the River, and Shethar-Bozenai and his associates in the Province Beyond the River, which they sent to Darius the king. 7 They sent a report, writing this to King Darius, "May all peace be yours.

8 Saiba o rei que fomos à Judá, ao Templo do grande Deus. Ele está sendo construído com grandes pedras, e a madeira já está em suas paredes. Essa obra está sendo feita totalmente pelas mãos deles. 9 Nós perguntamos aos anciãos: 'Quem vos deu ordem para construir este templo e estes muros?' 10 Nós lhes perguntamos seus nomes de modo que saibais quem são eles.

8 Let the king know that we went to the province of Judah to the house of the great God. It is being built with large stones and timbers set in the walls. This work is being done thoroughly and is prospering in their hands. 9 We asked the elders, 'Who issued you a decree to build this house and these walls?' 10 We also asked them their names to make them known to you; so the names of the men who were at their head are written down.

11 Eles responderam e disseram: "Nós somos servos Daquele que é o Deus dos céus e da terra e estamos reconstruindo este templo que foi construído há muito tempo, quando o grande rei de Israel o ergueu e completou.

11 This is how they answered us; they said, 'We are servants of the one who is the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding this house that had been built many years ago when the great king of Israel built it and completed it.

12 Entretanto, quando nossos antepassados enfureceram o Deus do céu, Ele os entregou nas mãos de Nabucodosor, rei da Babilônia, que destruiu este templo e tomou o povo, exilando-o na Babilônia. 13 No entanto, no primeiro ano de Ciro como rei na Babilônia, Ciro mesmo emitiu um decreto para a reconstrução do templo de Deus.

12 However, when our ancestors enraged the God of heaven, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house and took the people into exile in Babylon. 13 Nevertheless, in the first year when Cyrus was king of Babylon, Cyrus issued a decree to rebuild the house of God.

14 O rei Ciro também devolveu os objetos de ouro e de prata que pertenciam ao templo de Deus, aqueles que Nabucodonosor havia levado do templo em Jerusalém, para o templo na Babilônia. Ele os devolveu a Sesbazar, a quem havia feito governador. 15 Ele lhe disse: "Pega estes objetos. Vai e coloca-os no templo, em Jerusalém. Deixa o templo de Deus ser reconstruído ali.'

14 King Cyrus also returned the gold and silver objects belonging to the house of God that Nebuchadnezzar had brought from the temple in Jerusalem to the temple in Babylon. He restored them to someone named Sheshbazzar, whom he had appointed governor. 15 He said to him, "Take these objects. Go and put them in the temple in Jerusalem. Let the house of God be rebuilt there."

16 Esse Sesbazar lançou os fundamentos para o templo de Deus em Jerusalém; e ele foi sendo construído, mas ainda não concluído.'

16 Then this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation for the house of God in Jerusalem; and it is being constructed, but is not yet complete.'

17 Agora, se parecer bem ao rei, que seja feita uma busca na casa dos arquivos da Babilônia para ver se existe alguma declaração do rei Ciro sobre a construção do templo de Deus em Jerusalém. Então o rei enviará um parecer sobre isso a eles.

17 Now if it pleases the king, may it be investigated in the house of archives in Babylon if a decree from King Cyrus was issued to build this house of God in Jerusalem. Then let the king send his decision to us.
