1 No sétimo mês, após a volta dos israelitas às suas cidades, o povo se reuniu, como um só homem, em Jerusalém. 2 Jesua, filho de Jozadaque, e seus irmãos, os sacerdotes, Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, e seus irmãos se ergueram e construíram um altar para o Deus de Israel, a fim de oferecerem holocaustos, como ordenado na lei de Moisés, homem de Deus.

1 It was the seventh month after the descendants of Israel came back to their cities, when the people gathered together as one man in Jerusalem. 2 Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and his brothers rose up and built the altar of the God of Israel to offer burnt offerings as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.

3 Então estabeleceram o altar sobre as suas bases, apesar do medo que tinham dos povos ao redor. Eles ofereceram holocaustos a Yahweh ao amanhecer e ao anoitecer. 4 Também observaram a Festa dos Tabernáculos, como está descrito, e ofereceram holocaustos, dia após dia, conforme o estabelecido, em cada dia determinado. 5 Assim, havia holocaustos diários e mensais e ofertas para todas as festas fixas de Yahweh, juntamente com as ofertas voluntárias.

3 Then they established the altar on its stand, for terror was on them because of the people of the land. They offered burnt offerings to Yahweh at dawn and evening. 4 They also observed the Festival of Shelters as it is written and offered burnt offerings day by day according to the decree, each day's duty on its day. 5 Accordingly, there were daily burnt offerings, offerings for the new moons, and offerings for all the fixed feasts of Yahweh that had been consecrated, as well as freewill offerings from all those who offered them to Yahweh.

6 Eles começaram a oferecer holocaustos a Yahweh no primeiro dia do sétimo mês, embora os fundamentos do templo não tivessem sido postos. 7 Então deram prata para os pedreiros e carpinteiros; e, comida, bebida e azeite para o povo de Sidom e de Tiro, para que eles enviassem cedro do Líbano a Jope, pelo mar, como autorizado por Ciro, rei da Pérsia.

6 They began to offer up burnt offerings to Yahweh on the first day of the seventh month, although the temple had not been founded. 7 So they gave silver to the stoneworkers and craftsmen, and they gave food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so they would bring cedar trees by sea from Lebanon to Joppa, as authorized for them by Cyrus, king of Persia.

8 Então, no segundo mês do segundo ano, após terem vindo para o templo de Deus, em Jerusalém, Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, e Jesua, filho de Jozadaque, e o resto dos sacerdotes, os levitas e aqueles que vieram de volta do cativeiro para Jerusalém começaram a obra. 8 Then in the second month of the second year after they came to the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak, the rest of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and those who came from captivity back to Jerusalem began the work. They assigned the Levites twenty years old and older to oversee the work of the house of Yahweh. 9 Jeshua and his sons and brothers, and Kadmiel and his sons, who were descendants of Hodaviah), and the sons of Henadad and their sons and brothers-all of them were Levites-joined together in overseeing those working on the house of God. 10 Quando os construtores assentaram os alicerces do templo de Yahweh, os sacerdotes se apresentaram com suas vestimentas e com trombetas, e os levitas, filhos de Asafe, louvaram a Yahweh com címbalos, conforme as instruções deixadas por Davi, rei de Israel. 11 Eles cantavam responsivamente, com louvor e gratidão a Yahweh: "Ele é bom, porque a sua misericórdia dura para sempre sobre Israel". Todo o povo jubilou com grande brado de alegria e adoração a Yahweh porque o alicerce do templo estava pronto.

10 The builders laid a foundation for the temple of Yahweh. This enabled the priests to stand in their garments with trumpets, and the Levites, sons of Asaph, to praise Yahweh with cymbals, just as the hand of David, king of Israel had commanded. 11 They sang with praise and thankfulness to Yahweh, "He is good! His covenant faithfulness to Israel endures forever." All the people cried out with a great shout of joy in praise of Yahweh because the temple's foundations had been laid.

12 Mas muitos dos sacerdotes, levitas, chefes de famílias, já idosos, que tinham visto o primeiro templo choraram bem alto quando, diante de seus olhos, foram lançados os alicerces deste templo. Porém, muitos gritaram de júbilo com alegria. 13 De maneira que não se podiam distinguir entre as vozes de júbilo das vozes de choro das pessoas, porque o povo gritava muito alto e o som se ouvia de longe.

12 But many of the priests, Levites, and chief patriarchs, those who were old and had seen the first house, when this house's foundations were laid before their eyes, wept loudly. But many people had shouts of joy with gladness and an excited sound. 13 As a result, people were not able to distinguish the joyful and glad sounds from the sound of people weeping, for the people were crying out with great joy, and the sound was heard from far away.
