1 A esposa de um dos filhos dos profetas veio chorando a Eliseu, dizendo: "Teu servo, meu marido, morreu, e tu sabes que teu servo era temente a Yahweh. Agora veio o credor para levar meus dois filhos como seus escravos". 2 Então, Eliseu lhe disse: "O que posso fazer por ti?". Ela disse: "Tua serva não tem nada em casa, senão um pote de azeite".

1 Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets came crying to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared Yahweh. Now the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves." 2 So Elisha said to her, "What can I do for you? Tell me what do you have in the house?" She said, "Your servant has nothing in the house, except a pot of oil."

3 Então, Eliseu disse: "Vai, e pede vasilhas vazias emprestadas aos teus vizinhos, tantas quantas forem necessárias. 4 Então, deves entrar, fechar a porta sobre ti e teus filhos, e colocar o azeite dentro de todas as vasilhas. Põe à parte as vasilhas que estiverem cheias".

3 Then Elisha said, "Go out to borrow jars from your neighbors, empty jars. Borrow as many as possible. 4 Then you must go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour oil into all those jars; set aside the jars that are full."

5 Ela deixou Eliseu e fechou a porta sobre si e seus filhos. Eles traziam as vasilhas e ela as enchia com azeite. 6 Quando as vasilhas estavam cheias, disse a seu filho: "Traze-me outra vasilha". Mas ele lhe disse: "Não há mais vasilhas". Então, o azeite parou de fluir.

5 So she left Elisha and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her, and she filled them with oil. 6 When the vessels were full, she said to her son, "Bring me another jar." But he said to her, "There are no more jars." Then the oil stopped flowing.

7 Então, ela veio e contou ao homem de Deus. Ele disse: "Vai, vende o azeite, paga tuas dívidas, e, tu e teus filhos vivei do restante".

7 Then she came and told the man of God. He said, "Go, sell the oil; pay your debt, and live with your sons on the rest."

8 Um certo dia, Eliseu foi para Suném, onde vivia uma mulher importante, que insistiu que ele fosse comer com ela. Então, sempre que Eliseu passava por ali, parava para comer. 9 A mulher disse a seu marido: "Agora entendo que este, que sempre passa por aqui, é um santo homem de Deus".

8 One day Elisha walked to Shunem where an important woman lived; she urged him to eat food with her. So as often as Elisha passed by, he would stop there to eat. 9 The woman said to her husband, "See now, I realize that this is a holy man of God who is always passing by.

10 Façamos um pequeno quarto no telhado, para Eliseu, coloquemos dentro uma cama, uma mesa, uma cadeira e uma lâmpada. Então, quando ele vier até nós, ficará ali". 11 Assim, quando chegou o dia em que Eliseu parou ali, ficou no quarto e descansou.

10 Let us make a little room on the roof for Elisha, and let us put in it a bed, a table, a seat, and a lamp. Then when he comes to us, he will stay there." 11 So when the day came again that Elisha stopped there, he stayed in the room and rested there.

12 Eliseu mandou o seu servo, Geazi, chamar a sunamita. Então, ele a chamou e, quando ela veio, 13 Eliseu mandou que dissesse a ela: "Tu tiveste todo este trabalho por nossa causa. O que podemos fazer por ti? Podemos falar, por ti, com o rei ou com o comandante do exército?". Ela respondeu: "Eu habito no meio do meu próprio povo".

12 Elisha said to Gehazi his servant, "Call this Shunammite." When he had called her, she stood before him. 13 Elisha said to him, "Say to her, 'You have gone to all this trouble to care for us. What can be done for you? Can we speak for you to the king or to the army commander?'" She answered, "I live among my own people."

14 Eliseu disse: "O que podemos fazer por ela, então?" Geazi respondeu: "Ora, ela não tem filho, e seu esposo é velho". 15 Então, Eliseu respondeu: "Chama-a". Quando ele a chamou, ela se colocou de pé, à porta. 16 Eliseu disse: "Por esse tempo, no próximo ano, você segurará um filho". Ela disse: "Não, meu senhor é homem de Deus, não mintas para tua serva".

14 So Elisha said, "What can we do for her, then?" Gehazi answered, "Indeed, she has no son, and her husband is old." 15 So Elisha answered, "Call her." When he had called her, she stood in the door. 16 Elisha said, "At this time of year, in one year's time, you will be holding a son." She said, "No, my master and man of God, do not lie to your servant."

17 Porém a mulher concebeu e deu à luz um filho, no ano seguinte, naquele mesmo período, como Eliseu lhe havia dito. 18 Quando a criança cresceu, saiu um dia a ter com seu pai, que estava com os ceifeiros. 19 Ele disse a seu pai: "Minha cabeça! Minha cabeça!" O pai disse a seu servo: "Leva-o para a mãe dele". 20 Quando o servo pegou o menino e o trouxe para sua mãe, a criança se assentou no colo dela até o meio dia e, então, morreu.

17 But the woman conceived and gave birth to a son at the same time in the following year, as Elisha had said to her. 18 When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father, who was with harvesters. 19 He said to his father, "My head, my head." His father said to his servant, "Carry him to his mother." 20 When the servant had picked him up and brought the boy to his mother, the child sat on her knees until noon and then died.

21 Então, a mulher se levantou e deitou o menino na cama do homem de Deus, fechou a porta e saiu. 22 Ela chamou seu marido e disse: "Por favor, envia-me um dos servos e uma das jumentas, para que eu possa correr até o homem de Deus e, então, voltarei".

21 So the woman got up and laid the boy on the bed of the man of God, shut the door, and went out. 22 She called to her husband, and said, "Please send me one of the servants and one of the donkeys so that I may hurry to the man of God and then come back."

23 O marido disse: "Por que queres vê-lo hoje? Não é lua nova, nem mesmo sábado". Ela respondeu: "Vai ficar tudo bem". 24 Então, ela selou a jumenta e disse para seu servo: "Guia rapidamente; não pares a não ser que eu o diga".

23 Her husband said, "Why do you want to go to him today? It is not a new moon nor a Sabbath." She replied, "It will be all right." 24 Then she saddled a donkey and said to her servant, "Drive on quickly; do not slow down for me unless I say so."

25 Assim, ela saiu e foi ao encontro do homem de Deus, no monte Carmelo. Quando o homem de Deus a viu de longe, disse a Geazi, seu servo: "Eis aí a mulher sunamita. 26 Por favor, corre ao seu encontro e dize: 'Está tudo bem contigo, com teu marido e com a criança?'". Ela respondeu: "Tudo está bem".

25 So she went and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. So when the man of God saw her in the distance, he said to Gehazi his servant, "Look, here comes the Shunammite woman. 26 Please run to meet her and say to her, 'Is everything alright with you and with your husband and child?'" She answered, "It is alright."

27 Quando ela chegou ao homem de Deus, na montanha, ela se agarrou aos seus pés. Geazi se aproximou para afastá-la, mas o homem de Deus disse: "Deixa-a sozinha, pois ela está muito angustiada e Yahweh me ocultou o problema e não me disse nada".

27 When she came to the man of God at the mountain, she caught hold of his feet. Gehazi came near to thrust her away but the man of God said, "Leave her alone, for she is very upset, and Yahweh has hidden the problem from me, and has told me nothing."

28 Disse ela: "Te pedi eu por um filho, meu senhor? Não disse eu: 'Não me enganes?'". 29 Então, Eliseu disse a Geazi: "Põe tuas vestes de viagem e pega meu cajado em tua mão. Vai para a casa dela. Se encontrares algum homem, não o cumprimentes e, se alguém te cumprimentar, não lhe respondas. Deita meu cajado sobre a face da criança".

28 Then she said, "Did I ask you for a son, my master? Did I not say, 'Do not deceive me'?" 29 Then Elisha said to Gehazi, "Dress for travel and take my staff in your hand. Go to her home. If you meet any man, do not greet him, and if anyone greets you, do not answer him. Lay my staff on the child's face."

30 Mas a mãe da criança disse: "Como vive Yahweh e como tu vives, não te deixarei". Então, Eliseu se levantou e a seguiu. 31 Geazi se apressou à frente deles e deitou o cajado sobre a face da criança, mas a criança não falou, nem ouviu. Então, Geazi retornou para encontrar Eliseu e lhe disse: "O menino não despertou".

30 But the mother of the child said, "As Yahweh lives, and as you live, I will not leave you." So Elisha arose and followed her. 31 Gehazi hurried on ahead of them and laid the staff on the child's face, but the child did not speak or hear. So then Gehazi returned to meet Elisha and told him saying, "The child has not awakened."

32 Quando Eliseu chegou à casa, a criança estava morta e continuava sobre a cama. 33 Então, Eliseu entrou e fechou a porta sobre ele e a criança e orou a Yahweh. 34 Subiu e deitou sobre a criança: colocou a boca sobre sua boca, os olhos sobre seus olhos, e as mãos sobre suas mãos. Ele se estendeu sobre o menino, e o corpo do menino se aqueceu.

32 When Elisha arrived at the house, the child was dead and was still on the bed. 33 So Elisha went in and shut the door on the child and himself and prayed to Yahweh. 34 He went up and lay on the child; he put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. He stretched himself out on the boy, and the boy's body grew warm.

35 Então, Eliseu se levantou e andou pelo quarto e, novamente, se deitou e se estendeu sobre o garoto. A criança espirrou sete vezes e abriu os olhos! 36 Eliseu chamou Geazi e disse: "Chama a sunamita!" Então, ele a chamou e, quando ela entrou no quarto, lhe disse: "Pega teu filho". 37 Ela prostrou-se com o rosto ao chão, curvando-se aos seus pés, pegou seu filho e saiu.

35 Then Elisha got up and walked around the room and again went up and stretched himself out on the boy. The child sneezed seven times and then opened his eyes! 36 So Elisha called Gehazi and said, "Call the Shunammite!" So he called her, and when she came into the room, Elisha said, "Pick up your son." 37 Then she lay facedown on the ground at his feet and bowed to the ground, and then picked up her son and went out.

38 Eliseu voltou a Gilgal. E havia fome na terra; e os filhos dos profetas estavam sentados perante ele. Ele disse a seu servo: "Coloca uma grande panela no fogo e prepara um cozido para os filhos dos profetas". 39 Um deles foi ao campo para colher vegetais e encontrou uma trepadeira selvagem, colheu frutos suficientes para encher a dobra de seu manto. Eles os cortaram e colocaram no cozido, mas não sabiam de que tipo eram.

38 Then Elisha came again to Gilgal. There was famine in the land, and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him. He said to his servant, "Put the large pot on the fire and cook stew for the sons of the prophets." 39 One of them went out into a field to gather vegetables. He found a wild vine and gathered enough wild gourds to fill the fold of his robe. They cut them up and put them into the stew, but did not know what kind they were.

40 Assim serviram o cozido para os homens comerem. Mais tarde, enquanto comiam, eles gritaram dizendo: "Homem de Deus, há morte na panela!". E eles não puderam mais comer. 41 Eliseu disse: "Trazei um pouco de farinha". Ele a jogou dentro da panela e disse: "Servi isto ao povo, então eles poderão comer". E não havia mais nada perigoso na panela.

40 So they poured out the stew for the men to eat. Later, as they were eating, they cried out and said, "Man of God, there is death in the pot!" So they could not eat it anymore. 41 But Elisha said, "Bring some flour." He threw it into the pot and said, "Pour it out for the people, so that they may eat." Then there was no longer anything hurtful in the pot.

42 Um homem veio de Baal-Salisa e trouxe ao homem de Deus vinte pães de cevada da nova colheita, e espigas frescas em seu alforje. Ele disse: "Dá isto ao povo, para que possam comer". 43 Seu servo disse: "O quê? Como poderei eu servir isto a cem homens?". Mas Eliseu disse: "Dá isto ao povo, para que possam comer, pois assim diz Yahweh: 'Eles comerão e sobrará'". 44 Então, o seu servo os serviu, eles comeram, e ainda sobrou um pouco, conforme a palavra que Yahweh prometera.

42 A man came from Baal Shalishah to the man of God and brought twenty loaves of barley bread in his sack from the new harvest, and fresh ears of grain. He said, "Give this to the people so they can eat." 43 His servant said, "What, should I set this before a hundred men?" But Elisha said, "Give this to the people, so they can eat, because Yahweh says, 'They will eat and will have some left.'" 44 So his servant set it before them; they ate, and left some remaining, just as the word of Yahweh promised.
