1 Josias tinha oito anos quando iniciou seu reinado; ele reinou por trinta e um anos em Jerusalém. O nome de sua mãe era Jedida (ela era filha de Adaías, de Bozcate). 2 Ele fez o que era correto aos olhos de Yahweh. Andou nos caminhos de Davi, seu antepassado, e não se desviou nem para a direita nem para a esquerda.

1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jedidah (she was the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath). 2 He did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh. He walked in all the way of David his ancestor, and he did not turn away either to the right or to the left.

3 E aconteceu que, no oitavo ano do reinado do rei Josias, ele enviou Safã filho de Azalias, filho de Mesulão, o escriba, ao templo de Yahweh, dizendo: 4 "Sobe a Hilquias, o sumo sacerdote e dize-lhe para contar o dinheiro, que os guardas do templo recolheram do povo, por eles trazido ao templo de Yahweh. 5 Deixa que o dinheiro seja entregue nas mãos dos trabalhadores que estão encarregados do templo, para que eles façam reparos no templo de Yahweh.

3 It came about that in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, he sent Shaphan son of Azaliah son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Yahweh, saying, 4 "Go up to Hilkiah the high priest and tell him to count the money that has been brought into the house of Yahweh, which the temple guards have gathered from the people. 5 Let it be given into the hand of the workmen who are in charge of the house of Yahweh, and let them give it to the workmen who are in the house of Yahweh, for them to make repairs to damage in the temple.

6 Que eles entreguem dinheiro aos carpinteiros, aos construtores e aos pedreiros e que comprem também madeira e pedras cortadas para reparar o templo". 7 Porém não foi requerida a prestação de contas pelo dinheiro que lhes foi dado, pois eles agiam fielmente.

6 Let them give money to the carpenters, the builders, and the masons, and also to buy timber and cut stone to repair the temple." 7 But no accounting was required for the money that was given to them, because they handled it faithfully.

8 Hilquias, o sumo sacerdote, disse a Safã, o escriba: "Encontrei o Livro da Lei no templo de Yahweh". Assim Hilquias entregou o livro a Safã, e ele o leu. 9 Safã foi e levou o livro ao rei e também contou a ele, dizendo: "Vossos servos já gastaram o dinheiro que se achava no templo, eles o entregaram na mão dos trabalhadores que supervisionam o cuidado do templo de Yahweh". 10 Então, Safã, o escriba disse ao rei: "Hilquias, o sacerdote, deu-me um livro". Então, Safã o leu para o rei.

8 Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, "I have found the book of the law in the house of Yahweh." So Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. 9 Shaphan went and took the book to the king, and also reported to him, saying, "Your servants have spent the money that was found in the temple and they have given it into the hand of the workmen who supervise the care for the house of Yahweh." 10 Then Shaphan the scribe said to the king, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a book." Then Shaphan read it to the king.

11 Aconteceu que, quando o rei ouviu as palavras da lei, rasgou suas vestes. 12 O rei ordenou a Hilquias, o sacerdote, a Aicam, filho de Safã, a Acbor, filho de Micaías, a Safã, o escriba, e a Asaías, seu próprio servo, dizendo: 13 "Ide e consultai Yahweh por mim, pelo povo e por toda Judá, por causa das palavras deste livro que foi encontrado. Pois grande é a ira de Yahweh que se acendeu contra nós, porque nossos ancestrais não escutaram as palavras deste livro, de modo a obedecer tudo o que foi escrito sobre nós".

11 It came about that when the king had heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes. 12 The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Akbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah, his own servant, saying, 13 "Go and consult with Yahweh for me, and for the people and for all Judah, because of the words of this book that has been found. For great is the anger of Yahweh that has been kindled against us because our ancestors have not listened to the words of this book so as to obey all that was written concerning us."

14 Assim o sacerdote Hilquias, Aicam, Acbor, Safã e Asaías foram a Hulda, a profetisa, mulher de Salum, filho de Ticvá, filho de Harás, guardador das vestes (ela vivia em Jerusalém, no segundo quarteirão) e falaram com ela. 15 Ela lhes disse: "Isto é o que Yahweh, o Deus de Israel, diz: 'Diga ao homem que os enviou a Mim: 16 Assim diz Yahweh: Vede, Eu trarei desastre a este lugar e a seus habitantes, de acordo com tudo que está escrito neste livro que o rei de Judá leu.

14 So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Akbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tikvah son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter), and they spoke with her. 15 She said to them, "This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: 'Tell the man who sent you to me, 16 "This is what Yahweh says: 'See, I will bring disaster to this place and to its inhabitants, according to everything written in the book that the king of Judah has read.

17 Pois eles Me abandonaram e queimaram incenso para outros deuses, de modo que provocaram a Minha ira diante de tudo o que cometeram; assim sendo, Minha ira se acendeu contra este lugar e não se extinguirá'. 18 Mas para o rei de Judá, que os enviou para consultar a vontade de Yahweh, isso é o que a ele dirão: 'Yahweh, o Deus de Israel diz isso: Sobre as palavras que ouviste, 19 porque o teu coração foi sensível e porque humilhaste a ti mesmo diante de Yahweh; quando ouviste o que falei contra este lugar e seus habitantes, que eles se tornariam em desolação e maldição, e porque rasgaste tuas vestes e choraste diante de Mim, Eu também te ouvi' — essa é a declaração de Yahweh.

17 Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, so that they might provoke me to anger with all the deeds they have committed—therefore my anger has been kindled against this place, and it will not be extinguished.'" 18 But to the king of Judah, who sent you to ask Yahweh's will, this is what you will say to him: "Yahweh, the God of Israel says this: 'About the words that you heard, 19 because your heart was tender, and because you have humbled yourself before Yahweh, when you heard what I said against this place and its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and because you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have listened to you—this is Yahweh's declaration.

20 Olha, Eu te recolherei para teus antepassados, e serás recolhido à tua sepultura em paz. Teus olhos não verão todo o desastre que Eu trarei a este lugar'". Assim os homens levaram essa mensagem de volta para o rei.

20 See, I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster that I will bring upon this place.'"'" So the men took this message back to the king.
