1 Aconteceu que o rei Ezequias ouviu o relatório deles, rasgou as suas vestes, cobriu-se com pano de saco e entrou no templo de Yahweh. 2 Ele enviou Eliaquim, o mordomo, e Sebna, o escriba, e os anciãos dos sacerdotes, todos cobertos de sacos, a Isaías, filho de Amós, o profeta.

1 It came about that when King Hezekiah heard their report, he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Yahweh. 2 He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, all covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah son of Amoz, the prophet.

3 Eles lhe disseram: "Ezequias diz: 'Este dia é um dia de aflição, repreensão e desgraça, porque as crianças estão no tempo de nascer, mas não há nenhuma força para que nasçam. 4 Pode ser que Yahweh ouça todas as palavras do chefe comandante, que o rei da Assíria enviou para provocar o Deus vivo, e repreenda essas palavras. Agora, levanta teu clamor pelos remanescentes que ainda estão aqui'".

3 They said to him, "Hezekiah says, 'This day is a day of distress, rebuke, and disgrace, for the children have come to the time of birth, but there is no strength for them to be born. 4 It may be that Yahweh your God will hear all the words of the chief commander, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh your God has heard. Now lift up your prayer for the remnant that is still here.'"

5 Assim, os servos do rei Ezequias vieram para Isaías. 6 E Isaías lhes disse: "Dizei ao teu senhor: 'Yahweh diz: 'Não temas as palavras que tu ouviste, com as quais os servos do rei da Assíria tem me insultado. 7 Vê, Eu colocarei um espírito nele, e ele ouvirá uma certa notícia e voltará para a sua própria terra. Eu farei ele cair pela espada em sua própria terra"'.

5 So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah, 6 and Isaiah said to them, "Say to your master: 'Yahweh says, "Do not be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have insulted me. 7 Look, I will put a spirit in him, and he will hear a certain report and go back to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land."'"

8 Então, o principal comandante retornou e encontrou o rei da Assíria lutando contra Libna, porque ele havia ouvido que o rei havia saído de Laquis. 9 Então, Senaqueribe ouviu que Tiraca, rei da Etiópia e Egito, havia se mobilizado para lutar contra ele. Assim, ele enviou mensageiros novamente para Ezequias com uma mensagem:

8 Then the chief commander returned and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah, for he had heard that the king had gone away from Lachish. 9 Then Sennacherib heard that Tirhakah king of Cush and Egypt had mobilized to fight against him, so he sent messengers again to Hezekiah with a message:

10 "Diz para Ezequias, rei de Judá: 'Não deixes o teu Deus, em quem tu confiaste, enganar-te dizendo, 'Jerusalém não será dada na mão do rei da Assíria'. 11 Vê, tu tens ouvido o que os reis da Assíria têm feito a todas as terras, destruindo-as completamente. Assim sendo, serás tu poupado?

10 "Say to Hezekiah king of Judah, 'Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, "Jerusalem will not be given over into the hand of the king of Assyria." 11 See, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them completely. So will you be rescued?

12 Os deuses das nações os têm poupado? As nações que meus pais destruíram: Gozã, Harã, Rezefe e o povo do Eden, em Telassar? 13 Onde estão os reis de Hamate, o rei Arpade, o rei das cidades de Sefarvaim, de Hena e de Iva?'".

12 Have the gods of the nations rescued them, the nations that my fathers destroyed: Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden in Tel Assar? 13 Where are the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the cities of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?'"

14 Ezequias recebeu essa carta dos mensageiros e a leu. Então, ele foi para o templo de Yahweh e a colocou diante Dele. 15 Então, Ezequias orou diante de Yahweh e disse: "Yahweh dos exércitos, Deus de Israel, Tu que sentas acima dos querumbins, Tu és o único Deus sobre todos os reinos da terra. Tu fizeste os céus e a terra.

14 Hezekiah received this letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the house of Yahweh and spread it before him. 15 Then Hezekiah prayed before Yahweh and said, "Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, you who sit above the cherubim, you are God alone over all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.

16 Inclina o Teu ouvido, Yahweh, e ouve. Abre os Teus olhos, Yahweh, e vê; ouve todas as palavras de Senaqueribe, que ele tem enviado para zombar do Deus vivo. 17 Verdadeiramente, Yahweh, o rei da Assíria tem destruído as nações e suas terras. 18 Eles têm colocado seus deuses no fogo, porque eles não eram deuses, mas o trabalho das mãos dos homens, apenas madeira e pedra. Assim, os assírios os têm destruído.

16 Incline your ear, Yahweh, and listen. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and see, and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God. 17 Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands. 18 They have put their gods into the fire, for they were not gods but the work of men's hands, just wood and stone. So the Assyrians have destroyed them.

19 Agora então Yahweh, nosso Deus, salva-nos do seu poder, eu imploro, de forma que todos os reinos da terra saibam que Tu, Yahweh, és o único Deus".

19 Now then, Yahweh our God, save us, I implore you, from his power, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Yahweh, are God alone."

20 Então, Isaías, filho de Amoz, enviou uma mensagem para Ezequias, dizendo: "Yahweh, o Deus de Israel, diz: 'Visto que tu tens orado a Mim acerca de Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, Eu te ouvi. 21 Esta é a palavra que Yahweh disse sobre ele: 'A virgem, filha de Sião, despreza e ri de ti para escarnecer. A filha de Jerusalém meneia sua cabeça para ti. 22 A quem tens desafiado e insultado? E contra quem tu tens orgulhosamente exaltado a tua voz e levantado os teus olhos? Contra o Santo de Israel!

20 Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah, saying, "Yahweh, the God of Israel says, 'Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard you. 21 This is the word that Yahweh has spoken about him: "The virgin daughter of Zion2 despises you and laughs you to scorn. The daughter of Jerusalem2 shakes her head at you. 22 Whom have you defied and insulted?2 Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes in pride?2 Against the Holy One of Israel!

23 Por meio dos teus mensageiros, tens desafiado o Senhor e dito: 'Com a multidão de minhas carruagens, eu tenho subido às alturas das montanhas, às elevações mais altivas do Líbano. Eu cortarei os altos cedros e os melhores ciprestes ali. Entrarei nas suas partes mais remotas, na sua floresta mais frutífera. 24 Cavei cisternas e bebi águas estrangeiras. Sequei todos os rios do Egito sob a sola dos meus pés'.

23 By your messengers2 you have defied the Lord, and have said,2 'With the multitude of my chariots I have gone up to the heights of the mountains,2 to the highest elevations of Lebanon. I will cut down the tall cedars2 and the choice cypress trees there. I will enter into its farthest parts,2 its most fruitful forest. 24 I have dug wells2 and have drunk foreign waters. I dried up all the rivers of Egypt2 under the soles of my feet.'

25 Tu não tens ouvido que Eu determinei isso há muito tempo e como tenho operado em tempos antigos? Agora, Eu estou executando estas coisas. 25 Have you not heard how I2 determined it long ago, and worked it out in ancient times?2 Now I am bringing it to pass. You are here to reduce impregnable cities2 into heaps of ruins. 26 Their inhabitants, of little strength,2 are shattered and ashamed. They are plants in the field,2 green grass, the grass on the roof or in the field,2 burned before it has grown up.

27 Mas Eu conheço o teu sentar, o teu ir e vir e a tua fúria contra Mim. 28 Por causa dessa fúria contra Mim e por causa da tua arrogância que tem chegado aos Meus ouvidos, Eu colocarei um anzol no teu nariz e Meu cabresto na tua boca; Eu te farei voltar pelo caminho de onde vieste".

27 But I know your sitting down,2 your going out, your coming in,2 and your raging against me. 28 Because of your raging against me,2 and because your arrogance has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose,2 and my bit in your mouth; I will turn you back2 the way you came."

29 Este será o Meu sinal para ti: Neste ano, comereis do que nascer naturalmente e, no segundo ano, comereis do que brotar disso. Porém, no terceiro ano, tereis de plantar e colher, plantar vinhas e comer do seu fruto. 30 O remanescente da casa de Judá que sobreviver fincará raízes e dará frutos. 31 Porque, de Jerusalém, virá um remanescente, e, do monte Sião, virão os sobreviventes. O zelo de Yahweh dos Exércitos fará isto.

29 This will be the sign for you: This year you will eat what grows wild,2 and in the second year what grows from that. But in the third year you must plant and harvest,2 plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 30 The remnant of the house of Judah that survives2 will again take root and bear fruit. 31 For from Jerusalem a remnant will come out,2 from Mount Zion survivors will come. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this.

32 Portanto, acerca do rei da Assíria, Yahweh diz: "Ele não entrará nesta cidade, nem disparará flecha alguma aqui. Tampouco ele virá diante dela com escudo ou edificará uma trincheira contra ela. 33 Ele vai sair pelo mesmo caminho por onde entrou; ele não entrará nesta cidade. Esta é a declaração de Yahweh". 34 Porque Eu defenderei esta cidade e a livrarei por Mim e por causa de Davi, Meu servo'''.

32 Therefore Yahweh says this about the king of Assyria: "He will not come into this city2 nor shoot an arrow here. Neither will he come before it with shield2 or build up a siege ramp against it. 33 The way by which he came2 will be the same way he will leave;2 he will not enter this city—3 this is Yahweh's declaration." 34 For I will defend this city and rescue it,2 for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.'"

35 E aconteceu que, naquela noite, o Anjo de Yahweh saiu e atacou o acampamento dos assírios, matando cento e oitenta e cinco mil soldados. Quando os homens se levantaram pela manhã, havia corpos espalhados por toda parte. 36 Assim, Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, deixou Israel e foi embora e ficou em Nínive. 37 Mais tarde, quando ele estava adorando na casa do seu deus, Nisroque, seus filhos Adrameleque e Sarezer o mataram ao fio da espada. Então, eles fugiram para a terra de Ararate. Depois disso, Esar-Hadom seu filho, tornou-se rei em seu lugar.

35 It came about that night that the angel of Yahweh went out and attacked the camp of the Assyrians, putting to death 185,000 soldiers. When the men arose early in the morning, dead bodies lay everywhere. 36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria left Israel and went home and stayed in Nineveh. 37 Later, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisrok his god, his sons Adrammelek and Sharezer killed him with the sword. Then they escaped into the land of Ararat. Then Esarhaddon his son became king in his place.
