1 Acabe tinha setenta descendentes em Samaria. Jeú escreveu cartas e as enviou a Samaria, aos governantes de Jezreel, incluindo os anciãos e os tutores dos descendentes de Acabe, dizendo: 2 "Vós, que estais com os descendentes do vosso senhor, e tendes carruagens de guerra, cavalos, uma cidade fortificada e armas, assim que receberdes esta carta, 3 escolhei o melhor e mais capaz dos descendentes de vosso senhor e colocai-o no trono de seu pai, e lutai pela linhagem real de vosso senhor".

1 Now Ahab had seventy descendants in Samaria. Jehu wrote letters and sent them to Samaria, to the rulers of Jezreel, including the elders and the guardians of Ahab's descendants, saying, 2 "Your master's descendants are with you, and you also have chariots and horses and a fortified city and armor. So then, as soon as this letter comes to you, 3 select the best and most deserving of your master's descendants and set him on his father's throne, and fight for your master's royal line."

4 Todavia, eles ficaram aterrorizados e disseram entre si: "Vede, dois reis não puderam resistir diante de Jeú. Então, como podemos resistir?". 5 Em seguida, o homem responsável pelo palácio, o homem que governava a cidade, os anciãos e os tutores dos filhos enviaram uma resposta de volta a Jeú: "Somos teus servos. Faremos tudo o que pedires. Não faremos nenhum homem rei. Faz o que é bom aos teus olhos".

4 But they were terrified and said among themselves, "See, the two kings could not stand before Jehu. So how can we stand?" 5 Then the man who was in charge of the palace, and the man who was over the city, and the elders also, and they who raised the children, sent word back to Jehu, saying, "We are your servants. We will do everything that you command us. We will not make any man king. Do what is good in your eyes."

6 Então, Jeú escreveu uma segunda carta para eles, dizendo: "Se estiverdes do meu lado e, se ouvirdes a minha voz, deveis tomar a cabeça dos descendentes de vosso senhor e trazei a mim, em Jezreel, até amanhã, neste horário". Os descendentes do rei, que eram setenta, estavam com os homens importantes da cidade, que os criavam. 7 Quando a carta chegou até eles, pegaram os filhos do rei e os mataram, colocaram as setenta cabeças em cestos, e as enviaram a Jeú, em Jezreel.

6 Then Jehu wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, "If you are on my side, and if you will listen to my voice, you must take the heads of the men of your master's descendants, and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time." Now the king's descendants, seventy in number, were with the important men of the city, who were bringing them up. 7 So when the letter came to them, they took the king's sons and killed them, seventy persons, put their heads in baskets, and sent them to Jehu in Jezreel.

8 Um mensageiro veio a Jeú, dizendo: "Trouxeram as cabeças dos filhos do rei". Então, disse-lhe: "Coloca-as em dois montões à entrada dos portões até o amanhecer". 9 De manhã, Jeú saiu e se pôs de pé, e disse para todo o povo: "Vós sois inocentes. Vede, conspirei contra o meu senhor e o matei, mas quem matou a todos esses?

8 A messenger came to Jehu, saying, "They have brought the heads of the king's sons." So he said, "Put them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning." 9 In the morning Jehu went out and stood, and said to all the people, "You are innocent. See, I plotted against my master and killed him, but who killed all these?

10 Agora, certamente, podeis compreender que nenhuma das palavras que Yahweh falou acerca da família de Acabe cairá por terra, pois Yahweh tem cumprido o que Ele falou através do seu servo Elias". 11 Então, Jeú matou todos os que restavam da família de Acabe em Jezreel, e todos os seus oficiais importantes, seus amigos próximos, e seus sacerdotes. 10 Now you should certainly realize that no part of Yahweh's word, the word that he spoke concerning the family of Ahab, will fall to the ground, for Yahweh has done what he spoke about through his servant Elijah." 11 So Jehu killed all who remained in the family of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his important men, his close friends, and his priests, until none of them remained.

12 Em seguida, Jeú se levantou, saiu e foi para Samaria. Quando estava chegando a Bete-Equede dos pastores, 13 ele encontrou os irmãos do rei Acazias, de Judá. Jeú disse-lhes: "Quem sois vós?" Eles responderam: "Somos irmãos de Acazias, e estamos descendo para saudar os filhos do rei e os filhos da rainha Jezabel". 14 Jeú disse aos seus homens: "Apanhai-os vivos". 12 Then Jehu arose and left; he went to Samaria. As he was arriving at Beth Eked of the shepherd, 13 he met brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah. Jehu said to them, "Who are you?" They answered, "We are brothers of Ahaziah, and we are going down to greet the children of the king and the children of Queen Jezebel." 14 Jehu said to his own men, "Take them alive." So they took them alive and killed them at the well of Beth Eked, all forty-two men. He did not leave any of them alive.

15 Quando Jeú havia deixado o lugar, encontrou Jonadabe, filho de Recabe, que vinha ao seu encontro. Jeú cumprimentou-o e disse-lhe: "Teu coração está comigo, assim como o meu está contigo?". Jonadabe respondeu: "Sim". Jeú disse: "Se ele estiver, dá-me a tua mão". E Jonadabe deu-lhe sua mão, então Jeú tomou-o e colocou-o na carruagem com ele. 16 Jeú disse: "Vem comigo e vê o meu zelo para com Yahweh". Então, ele levou Jonadabe em sua carruagem. 17 Quando ele retornou a Samaria, Jeú matou todos os descendentes de Acabe que restavam em Samaria, até destruir toda a linhagem real de Acabe, assim como Yahweh lhes havia anunciado anteriormente, por intermédio de Elias.

15 When Jehu had left there, he met Jehonadab son of Rekab coming to meet him. Jehu greeted him and said to him, "Is your heart with me, as my heart is with yours?" Jehonadab answered, "It is." Jehu said, "If it is, give me your hand." So he gave Jehu his hand, and Jehu took Jehonadab up with him into the chariot. 16 Jehu said, "Come with me and see my zeal for Yahweh." So he had Jehonadab ride along with him in his chariot. 17 When he came to Samaria, Jehu killed all who remained from Ahab's descendants in Samaria, until he had destroyed Ahab's royal line, just as was told them before by the word of Yahweh, which he had spoken to Elijah.

18 Então, Jeú reuniu todo o povo e lhes disse: "Acabe serviu pouco a Baal, mas Jeú o servirá muito mais. 19 Agora, portanto, chamai para mim todos os profetas de Baal, todos os seus adoradores e todos os seus sacerdotes. Não deixeis nenhum faltar, pois eu tenho um grande sacrifício para oferecer a Baal. Quem faltar não viverá". No entanto, Jeú fez isso enganosamente, com intenção de matar todos os adoradores de Baal. 20 Jeú disse: "Separai um tempo para fazer uma reunião solene para prestar culto a Baal". 18 Then Jehu gathered all the people together and said to them, "Ahab served Baal a little, but Jehu will serve him much. 19 Now therefore call to me all the prophets of Baal, all his worshipers, and all his priests. Let no one be left out, for I have a great sacrifice to offer to Baal. Whoever does not come will not live." But Jehu did this deceitfully, with the intent to kill the worshipers of Baal. 20 Jehu said, "Set a time to have an assembly for Baal." So they announced it.

21 Então, Jeú enviou por todo o Israel, e todos os adoradores de Baal vieram, de modo que nenhum homem faltou. Eles vieram até o templo de Baal, e este ficou lotado de uma extremidade à outra. 22 Jeú disse para o homem que guardava as roupas dos sacerdotes: "Traz as vestimentas para todos os adoradores de Baal". Então, o homem trouxe vestimentas para eles.

21 Then Jehu sent throughout all Israel and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left who did not come. They came into the temple of Baal, and it was filled from one end to another. 22 Jehu said to the man who kept the priest's wardrobe, "Bring out robes for all the worshipers of Baal." So the man brought out robes to them.

23 Assim, Jeú foi com Jonadabe, filho de Recabe, até a casa de Baal, e ele disse aos adoradores de Baal: "Examinai e observai que não se encontre aqui, entre vós, nenhum dos servos de Yahweh, mas somente os adoradores de Baal". 24 Então, eles foram para oferecer sacrifícios e holocaustos. Jeú havia escolhido oitenta homens que ficariam do lado de fora e disse-lhes: "Se algum dos homens que entrego em tuas mãos escapar, seja quem for que deixares escapar, a tua vida será tirada pela vida daquele que escapou".

23 So Jehu went with Jehonadab son of Rekab into the house of Baal, and he said to the worshipers of Baal, "Search and make sure that there is no one here with you from the servants of Yahweh, but the worshipers of Baal alone." 24 Then they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had chosen eighty men who were standing outside, and he told them, "If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escapes, whoever lets that man escape, his life will be taken for the life of the one who escaped."

25 Então, assim que Jeú terminou de oferecer o holocausto, ele disse para os guardas e os capitães: "Ide e matai-os. Não deixeis ninguém sair". Então, eles os mataram ao fio de espada, e os guardas e os capitães os lançaram para fora e entraram na sala interior da casa de Baal. 26 E eles levaram para fora os postes que estavam na casa de Baal, e os queimaram. 27 Eles derrubaram o poste de Baal, destruíram sua casa e fizeram dela uma latrina; e assim o é até o dia de hoje. 28 Foi assim que Jeú destruiu de Israel a adoração a Baal.

25 So then as soon as Jehu finished offering the burnt offering, he said to the guard and to the captains, "Go in and kill them. Let no one come out." So they killed them with the edge of the sword, and the guard and the captains threw them out and went into the inner room of the house of Baal. 26 They dragged out the stone pillars that were in the house of Baal, and they burned them. 27 Then they broke down the pillar of Baal, and destroyed the house of Baal and made it a latrine, which it is to this day. 28 That is how Jehu destroyed Baal worship from Israel.

29 Contudo Jeú não abandonou os pecados de Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, os quais fizeram Israel pecar, isto é, a adoração a bezerros de ouro em Betel e Dã. 30 Então, Yahweh disse a Jeú: "Porque fizeste bem em executar o que era certo aos Meus olhos e fizeste à casa de Acabe conforme tudo o que estava em Meu coração, teus descendentes sentarão no trono de Israel por quatro gerações". 31 Todavia Jeú não teve o cuidado de caminhar na Lei de Yahweh, o Deus de Israel, com todo o seu coração. Ele não se afastou dos pecados de Jeroboão, que fizeram Israel pecar.

29 But Jehu did not leave the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, by which he made Israel sin—that is, the worship of the golden calves in Bethel and Dan. 30 So Yahweh said to Jehu, "Because you have done well in executing what was right in my eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, your descendants will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation." 31 But Jehu took no care to walk in the law of Yahweh, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, by which he made Israel sin.

32 Naqueles dias, Yahweh começou a cortar as regiões de Israel, e Hazael derrotou os israelitas nas fronteiras de Israel, 33 do Jordão para o oriente, toda a terra de Gileade, os gaditas e os rubenitas, e os manassitas, de Aroer, que é junto ao vale do Arnom, de Gileade a Basã.

32 In those days Yahweh began to cut off regions from Israel, and Hazael defeated the Israelites at the borders of Israel, 33 from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the Valley of the Arnon, through Gilead to Bashan.

34 Quanto às outras questões acerca de Jeú, e tudo quanto ele fez, e todo o seu poder, não estão elas escritas no livro de Crônicas dos reis de Israel? 35 Jeú adormeceu com os seus ancestrais, e eles o sepultaram em Samaria. Então, Jeoacaz, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar. 36 O período que Jeú reinou sobre Israel, em Samaria, foi de vinte e oito anos.

34 As for the other matters concerning Jehu, and all that he did, and all his power, are they not written in the book of the events of the kings of Israel? 35 Jehu lay down with his ancestors, and they buried him in Samaria. Then Jehoahaz his son became king in his place. 36 The time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.
