1 Os zifeus vieram a Saul, em Gibeá, dizendo: "Não está Davi se escondendo no monte Haquila, que está diante de Jesimon? 2 Então, Saul levantou-se e foi para o deserto de Zife; havia com ele três mil homens, escolhidos de Israel, para procurar por Davi, no deserto de Zife.

1 The Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah and said, "Is not David hiding in the hill of Hakilah, which is before Jeshimon?" 2 Then Saul arose and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

3 Saul acampou no monte Haquila, que está diante de Jesimon, à beira da estrada. Porém, Davi estava no deserto, e viu que Saul vinha após ele pelo deserto. 4 Davi enviou espias ao deserto e compreendeu que, de fato,Saul vinha.

3 Saul camped on the hill of Hakilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the road. But David was staying in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul was coming after him into the wilderness. 4 So David sent out spies and learned that Saul had indeed come.

5 Davi levantou-se e foi para o local onde Saul estava acampado; ele viu onde estavam deitados Saul e Abner, filho de Ner, o general de seu exército; Saul estava deitado, e o povo estava acampado ao seu redor; todos estavam adormecidos.

5 David arose and went to the place where Saul had camped; he saw the place where Saul lay, and Abner son of Ner, the general of his army; Saul lay in the camp, and the people were camped around him, all asleep.

6 Então, Davi disse a Aimeleque, o heteu, e a Abisai, filho de Zeruia, irmão de Joabe: "Quem descerá comigo ao acampamento de Saul?". Abisai respondeu: "Eu descerei contigo". 7 Davi e Abisai desceram, à noite, ao acampamento: e lá estava Saul, dormindo, sua lança cravada no chão ao lado de sua cabeça. Abner e seus soldados estavam deitados ao seu redor. 8 Então, Abisai disse a Davi: "Hoje, Deus colocou teu inimigo em tuas mãos. Agora, por favor, me permita encravá-lo ao chão com minha lança, com apenas um golpe. Não será necessário um segundo golpe".

6 Then David said to Ahimelek the Hittite, and to Abishai son of Zeruiah, the brother of Joab, "Who will go down with me to Saul in the camp?" Abishai said, "I! I will go down with you." 7 So David and Abishai went to the army by night. Saul was there sleeping inside the camp with his spear stuck in the ground beside his head. Abner and his soldiers lay around him. 8 Then Abishai said to David, "Today God has put your enemy into your hand. Now please let me pin him to the ground with the spear with just one blow. I will not strike him a second time."

9 Davi disse a Abisai: "Não o destruas, pois quem pode estender a sua mão contra o ungido de Yahweh e ficar inocente?". 10 Davi continuou: "Assim como Yahweh vive, Yahweh o matará; ou chegará o dia de sua morte, ou ele irá a batalha e perecerá.

9 David said to Abishai, "Do not destroy him; for who can extend his hand against Yahweh's anointed one and be guiltless?" 10 David said, "As Yahweh lives, Yahweh will kill him, or his day will come to die, or he will go into battle and perish.

11 Que Yahweh não me permita estender minha mão contra o Seu ungido; mas, agora, eu te rogo: peguemos a lança que está ao lado de sua cabeça e a jarra de água, e saiamos". 12 E Davi pegou a lança e o jarro de água que estavam ao lado da cabeça de Saul, e saíram. Ninguém os viu ou soube que estiveram ali. Todos estavam adormecidos porque um profundo sono, da parte de Yahweh, viera sobre eles.

11 May Yahweh forbid that I should extend my hand against his anointed one; but now, I beg you, take the spear that is at his head and the jar of water, and let us go." 12 So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul's head, and they got away. No one saw them or knew about it, nor did anyone wake up, for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from Yahweh had fallen on them.

13 Então, Davi foi para o outro lado do acampamento e ficou de pé no topo de uma montanha, ao longe; havia uma grande distância entre eles. 14 Davi gritou para o povo e para Abner, filho de Ner, dizendo: "Não responderás, Abner?" Então Abner respondeu dizendo: "Quem és tu, que gritas ao rei?".

13 Then David went over to the other side and stood on the top of the mountain far off; a great distance was between them. 14 David shouted out to the people and to Abner son of Ner; he said, "Do you not answer, Abner?" Then Abner answered and said, "Who are you who is shouting to the king?"

15 Davi disse a Abner: "Não és tu um homem corajoso? Quem é semelhante a ti em Israel? Por que, então, não vigiaste teu mestre, o rei? Pois alguém veio para matar o rei, teu mestre. 16 Não é bom o que fizeste. Como vive Yahweh, tu mereces morrer, por não protegeres o teu mestre, o ungido de Yahweh. Agora, vê onde está a lança do rei, e a jarra de água que estavam ao lado de sua cabeça".

15 David said to Abner, "Are not you a courageous man? Who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not kept watch over your master the king? For someone came in to destroy the king your master. 16 This thing you have done is not good. As Yahweh lives, you deserve to die because you have not kept watch over your master, Yahweh's anointed one. Now see where the king's spear is and the jar of water that was near his head!"

17 Saul reconheceu a voz de Davi e disse: "Esta é sua voz, meu filho Davi?". Davi respondeu: "Esta é a minha voz, meu mestre, rei". 18 Ele disse: "Por que meu mestre persegue seu servo? O que tenho feito? Que maldade há em minhas mãos?

17 Saul recognized David's voice and said, "Is that your voice, my son David?" David said, "It is my voice, my master, king." 18 He said, "Why does my master pursue his servant? What have I done? What evil is in my hand?

19 Agora, pois, eu rogo que meu mestre ouça as palavras de seu servo. Se foi Yahweh que o enviou contra mim, que Ele aceite uma oferta; mas se foram homens, que eles sejam amaldiçoados em sinal de Yahweh, pois eles têm me lançado fora, para que eu não suba à herança de Yahweh, como que dizendo: ''Vai e adora outros deuses'. 20 Agora, pois, não permitas que meu sangue se derrame pela terra, longe da presença de Yahweh; pois o rei de Israel tem saído em busca de uma pulga, como um caçador procura uma perdiz nas montanhas".

19 Now therefore, I beg you, let my master the king listen to the words of his servant. If it is Yahweh who has stirred you up against me, may he be pleased with an offering; but if it is human beings, may they be cursed in the sight of Yahweh, for they have today driven me out, that I should not cling to the inheritance of Yahweh; they have said to me, 'Go worship other gods.' 20 Now therefore, do not let my blood fall to the earth away from Yahweh's presence; for the king of Israel has come out to look for the one flea as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains."

21 Então Saul disse: "Tenho pecado. Volta, meu filho Davi, pois não te farei mais mal, porque hoje tu preservaste minha vida. Vê, tenho agido como um tolo e cometido grande e terrível erro".

21 Then Saul said, "I have sinned. Return, David, my son; for I will harm you no more, because my life was precious in your eyes today. See, I have played the fool and have made a very bad mistake."

22 Davi respondeu: "Vê, tua lança está aqui, rei! Envia um dos jovens para buscá-la e te entregar. 23 Que Yahweh pague a cada homem por sua justiça e fidelidade; porque Ele te colocou hoje em minhas mãos, mas eu não feriria o Seu ungido.

22 David answered and said, "See, your spear is here, king! Let one of the young men come over and get it and bring it to you. 23 May Yahweh pay each man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; because Yahweh put you into my hand today, but I would not strike his anointed.

24 E vê, assim como tua vida foi preciosa aos meus olhos hoje, assim também tem a minha vida mais valor aos olhos de Yahweh, e que Ele me livre de todos os problemas". 25 Então Saul disse a Davi: "Sejas abençoado, Davi, meu filho, para que faças grandes coisas, e que tenhas sucesso". Então, Davi seguiu seu caminho, e Saul retornou para o seu lugar.

24 See, as your life was precious in my eyes today, so may my life be much valued in the eyes of Yahweh, and may he rescue me out of all trouble." 25 Then Saul said to David, "May you be blessed, David my son! You will certainly do great things and you will succeed in them." So David went his way, and Saul returned to his place.
