1 Então, Davi veio a Nobe para ver Aimeleque, o sacerdote. Aimeleque veio, trêmulo, encontrar-se com Davi e lhe disse: "Por que estás sozinho e não há ninguém contigo?". 2 Davi disse a Aimeleque, o sacerdote: "O rei me mandou em uma missão e disse-me: 'Não deixes que ninguém saiba sobre o negócio que eu estou te enviando, e o que te ordenei.' Estou sozinho porque encaminhei os jovens para um certo lugar.

1 Then David came to Nob to see Ahimelek the priest. Ahimelek came to meet David trembling and said to him, "Why are you alone and have no one with you?" 2 David said to Ahimelek the priest, "The king has sent me on a mission and has said to me, 'Let no one know anything about the business I am sending you, and what I have commanded you.' I have directed the young men to a certain place.

3 Agora, o que tens nas mãos? Dá-me cinco fatias de pão, ou qualquer coisa que tiveres aí". 4 O sacerdote respondeu a Davi e disse: "Não há pão comum, porém há pão santo — se os jovens tiverem se privado de mulheres".

3 Now then what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever is here." 4 The priest answered David and said, "There is no ordinary bread on hand, but there is holy bread—if the young men have kept themselves from women."

5 Davi respondeu ao sacerdote: "Certamente estamos privados de mulheres durante estes três dias. Quando eu parti, os corpos dos jovens foram dedicados a Yahweh, ainda que fosse uma jornada comum. Quanto mais hoje seus corpos serão dedicados a Yahweh?". 6 Então, o sacerdote lhe deu o pão que foi dedicado a Yahweh. Pois não havia pão ali, apenas o pão da presença, que foi removido de diante de Yahweh a fim de que se colocasse pão quente em seu lugar.

5 David answered the priest, "Surely women have been kept from us for the past three days, as usual when I set out. The things belonging to the young men have been set apart even on ordinary missions. How much more today will what they have be set apart!" 6 So the priest gave him the bread that was set apart. For there was no bread there except the bread of the presence, which was removed from before Yahweh, in order to put hot bread in its place on the day it was taken away.

7 Um dos servos de Saul estava lá naquele dia, detido perante Yahweh. Seu nome era Doegue, o edomeu, o chefe dos pastores de Saul.

7 Now one of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before Yahweh. His name was Doeg the Edomite, the chief of Saul's shepherds.

8 Davi disse a Aimeleque: "Não haveria aqui alguma lança ou espada? Pois eu não trouxe nem minha espada nem minhas armas comigo, porque o negócio do rei era urgente". O sacerdote disse: 9 "A espada de Golias, o filisteu a quem tu mataste no vale de Elá, está aqui, embalada em um pano atrás do manto sacerdotal. Se tu quiseres levá-la, pega-a, pois não há outra arma aqui". Davi disse: "Não há outra espada como aquela; dá-me, pois."

8 David said to Ahimelek, "Now is there not here on hand any spear or sword? For I brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business was urgent." 9 The priest said, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you want to take that, take it, for there is no other weapon here." David said, "There is no other sword like that one; give it to me."

10 Davi levantou-se e escapou de Saul naquele dia e foi a Áquis, o rei de Gate. 11 Os servos de Áquis lhe disseram: "Não é este Davi o rei da terra? Eles não cantaram uns para os outros sobre ele com danças: 'Saul matou seus milhares, e Davi seus dez milhares'?"

10 David arose and fled that day from Saul and went to Achish, the king of Gath. 11 Achish's servants said to him, "Is not this David, the king of the land? Did they not sing to one another about him in dances, 'Saul has killed his thousands, and David his ten thousands?'"

12 Davi levou essas palavras a sério e teve muito medo de Áquis, o rei de Gate. 13 Ele mudou seu comportamento diante deles e fingiu ser louco nas mãos deles; e ele fez marcas nas portas e deixou que sua saliva escorresse por sua barba.

12 David took these words to heart and was very afraid of Achish, the king of Gath. 13 He changed his behavior before them and pretended to be insane in their hands; he made marks on the doors of the gate and let his saliva run down his beard.

14 Então Áquis disse a seus servos: "Vós não vedes que o homem é louco? Por que vós o trouxestes para mim? 15 Teria eu necessidade de homens loucos para que vós trouxésseis este indivíduo para agir como um em minha presença? Este indivíduo realmente entrará na minha casa?".

14 Then Achish said to his servants, "Look, you see the man is mad. Why have you brought him to me? 15 Do I lack madmen, so that you have brought this fellow to behave like one in my presence? Will this fellow really come into my house?"
