1 Esta é a palavra de Yahweh que veio a Sofonias, filho de Cuchi, filho de Gedalias, filho de Amarias, filho de Ezequias, nos dias de Josias, filho de Amom, rei de Judá. 2 "Eu destruirei tudo sobre a face da terra", assim diz Yahweh: 3 "Destruirei homens e animais. Destruirei as aves dos céus, os peixes do mar e todos os que causam tropeços. Extirparei o homem da face da terra", assim diz Yahweh.

1 This is the word of Yahweh that came to Zephaniah son of Cushi son of Gedaliah son of Amariah son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah. 2 "I will utterly destroy everything from off the surface of the earth—this is Yahweh's declaration. 3 I will destroy men and animals; I will destroy the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, the ruins along with the wicked. For I will cut off man from the surface of the earth—this is Yahweh's declaration.

4 Estenderei a minha mão contra Judá e todos os habitantes de Jerusalém. Aniquilarei deste lugar todo remanescente de Baal e os nomes dos idólatras entre os sacerdotes, 5 as pessoas que estão sobre os telhados e que adoraram os corpos celestes; aqueles que adoram a Yahweh e juram por Ele, mas também juram por Milcom. 6 Também aniquilarei aqueles que deixam de seguir Yahweh, que não buscam a Ele nem o consultam".

4 I will reach out with my hand over Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. I will cut off every remnant of Baal from this place and the names of the idolatrous people among the priests, 5 the people who on the housetops worship the heavenly bodies, and the people who worship and swear to Yahweh but who also swear by their king. [[ The copies of the ancient Hebrew text have " by their king " , but some modern translations read " by Milcom " , the name of a pagan god that many people worshiped. ]] 6 I will also cut off those who have turned away from following Yahweh, those who neither seek Yahweh nor ask for his guidance."

7 Calai-vos na presença do Senhor Yahweh, pois o Seu dia se aproxima; Yahweh preparou o sacrifício e santificou os seus convidados. 8 "E acontecerá que, no dia do sacrifício de Yahweh, castigarei os príncipes e os filhos do rei e todos que se vestem de roupas estrangeiras. 9 Nesse dia castigarei todos aqueles que saltam o pedestal dos ídolos, os que enchem a casa dos seus senhores com violência e engano".

7 Be silent before the Lord Yahweh! For the day of Yahweh is near; Yahweh has prepared the sacrifice and set apart his guests. 8 "It will come about on the day of Yahweh's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes and the king's sons, and everyone dressed in foreign clothes. 9 On that day I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, those who fill their master's house with violence and deceit.

10 "Assim será naquele dia", diz Yahweh, "um choro de angústia virá da porta do Peixe, lamentação do Segundo Distrito e um grande ruído de destruição dos montes. 11 Lamentai, habitantes de Mactes, pois todos os mercadores serão arruinados, e todos os que pesam a prata serão aniquilados.

10 So it will be on that day—this is Yahweh's declaration— that a cry of distress will come from the Fish Gate, wailing from the Second District, and a great crashing sound from the hills. 11 Wail, inhabitants of the Market District, for all the people of Canaan will be ruined; all those who weigh out silver will be cut off.

12 E acontecerá que, naquele tempo, esquadrinharei Jerusalém com lanternas e castigarei os homens apegados ao seu vinho e que dizem nos seus corações: 'Yahweh não fará nada, nem bem nem mal'. 13 Suas riquezas serão saqueadas, e suas casas devastadas e abandonadas! Construirão casas, mas não viverão nelas, plantarão vinhas, mas não beberão do seu vinho.

12 It will come about at that time that I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish the men who have settled into their wine and say in their heart, 'Yahweh will not do anything, either good or evil.' 13 Their wealth will become plunder, and their houses will be an abandoned devastation! They will build houses but not live in them, and plant vineyards but not drink their wine.

14 O grande dia de Yahweh está perto, está perto e iminente. O som do dia de Yahweh será tal que até mesmo um guerreiro gritará amargamente. 15 Aquele dia será de fúria, de aflição e angústia; dia de tempestade e devastação, dia de trevas e escuridão, um dia de nuvens e escuridão profundas. 16 Será dia de trombetas e gritos de guerra contra as cidades fortificadas e as torres altas.

14 The great day of Yahweh is near, near and hurrying quickly! The sound of the day of Yahweh will be that of a warrior crying bitterly! 15 That day will be a day of fury, a day of distress and anguish, a day of storm and devastation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness. 16 It will be a day of trumpets and alarms against the fortified cities and the high battlements.

17 Pois Eu trarei angústia sobre a humanidade e, então, andarão como homens cegos, pois pecaram contra Yahweh. Seu sangue será despejado como pó, e suas entranhas como esterco. 18 Nem a sua prata nem o seu ouro serão capazes de salvá-los no dia da fúria de Yahweh. O fogo dos ciúmes de Yahweh consumirá toda terra, pois a aniquilação que Ele trará contra os habitantes da terra será terrível.

17 For I will bring distress upon mankind, so that they will walk about like blind men since they have sinned against Yahweh. Their blood will be poured out like dust, and their inner parts like dung. 18 Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them on the day of Yahweh's fury. In the fire of his jealousy the whole earth will be consumed, for he will bring a complete, a terrible end of all the inhabitants of the earth."
