1 Então, o povo de Israel — toda a comunidade — foi para o deserto de Zim, no primeiro mês. Eles ficaram em Cades. Ali, Miriã morreu e foi sepultada.

1 So the people of Israel, the whole community, went into the wilderness of Zin in the first month; they stayed at Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.

2 Não havia água para a comunidade, por isso, juntaram-se contra Moisés e Arão. 3 O povo se queixou contra Moisés. Disseram: "Teria sido melhor se tivéssemos morrido quando os nossos irmãos morreram diante de Yahweh!".

2 There was no water for the community, so they assembled together against Moses and Aaron. 3 The people complained against Moses. They said, "It would have been better if we had died when our fellow Israelites died in front of Yahweh!

4 Por que trouxeste a comunidade de Yahweh para este deserto para morrer aqui, nós e os nossos animais? 5 E por que tu nos fizeste sair do Egito para trazer-nos para este lugar horrível? Aqui não há sementes, figos, vinhas ou romãs, e não há água para beber".

4 Why have you brought Yahweh's community into this wilderness to die here, we and our animals? 5 Why did you make us come up out of Egypt to bring us to this horrible place? There is no place for seed, figs, vines, or pomegranates, and there is no water to drink."

6 Então, Moisés e Arão saíram da frente da assembleia. Eles foram para a entrada da Tenda do Encontro e se prostraram com as suas faces voltadas para o chão. Ali, a glória de Yahweh lhes apareceu.

6 So Moses and Aaron went away from in front of the assembly. They went to the entrance of the tent of meeting and lay facedown. There Yahweh's brilliant glory appeared to them.

7 Yahweh falou a Moisés, dizendo: 8 "Pega o teu cajado e reúne a comunidade, tu e o teu irmão Arão. Fala à pedra diante dos olhos deles e ordena que dela flua água. Vocês tirarão água da rocha e a darão à comunidade e ao seu gado para beber". 9 Moisés pegou o cajado na presença de Yahweh, conforme Yahweh lhe ordenara.

7 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said, 8 "Take the staff and assemble the community, you, and Aaron your brother. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and command it to flow with water. You will produce water for them out of that rock, and you must give it to the community and their livestock to drink." 9 Moses took the staff from before Yahweh, as Yahweh had commanded him to do.

10 Então, Moisés e Arão reuniram a assembleia diante da rocha. Moisés lhes disse: "Escutai agora, vós rebeldes. Devemos nós tirar água desta rocha para vós?". 11 Então, Moisés levantou a sua mão e bateu na rocha duas vezes com o seu cajado, e saiu muita água. A comunidade e o seu gado a beberam.

10 Then Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock. Moses said to them, "Listen now, you rebels. Must we bring water out of this rock for you?" 11 Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff, and much water came out. The community drank, and their livestook drank.

12 Então, Yahweh disse a Moisés e Arão: "Porque não confiastes em mim e não me honrastes como Santo diante dos olhos do povo de Israel, não levarei esta assembleia à terra que também lhes dei". 13 Esse lugar foi chamado águas de Meribá porque o povo de Israel contendeu com Yahweh ali, e Ele lhes mostrou a Sua santidade.

12 Then Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not trust me or honor me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, you will not bring this assembly into the land I have given them." 13 This place was called the waters of Meribah because the people of Israel had quarreled with Yahweh there, and he showed himself to them as holy.

14 Moisés mandou mensageiros de Cades ao rei de Edom: "O teu irmão Israel diz isto: 15 'Tu conheces todas as dificuldades que temos enfrentado. Tu sabes que nossos antepassados desceram para o Egito e viveram por lá um tempo longo. Os egípcios nos trataram asperamente e também aos nossos antepassados. 16 Quando clamamos a Yahweh, Ele ouviu a nossa voz e mandou um anjo e nos tirou do Egito. Vê, estamos em Cades, uma cidade na fronteira com a tua terra.

14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom: Your brother Israel says this: "You know all the difficulties that have happened to us. 15 You know that our ancestors went down to Egypt and lived in Egypt a long time. The Egyptians treated us harshly and also our ancestors. 16 When we called out to Yahweh, he heard our voice and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt. Look, we are in Kadesh, a city on the border of your land.

17 Eu estou te pedindo que nos deixes passar por tua terra. Não passaremos pelo campo ou pelo vinhedo, nem beberemos água dos teus poços. Passaremos ao longo da estrada real. Não nos desviaremos para a direita ou para a esquerda, até que tenhamos passado por tuas fronteiras".

17 I am asking you to let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard, nor will we drink the water in your wells. We will go along the king's highway. We will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left until we have passed your border."

18 Mas o rei de Edom lhe respondeu: "Não poderás passar por aqui. Se o fizeres, irei com a espada para te atacar". Então, o povo de Israel lhe disse: 19 "Nós iremos ao longo da estrada. Se nós ou as nossas manadas bebermos da tua água, nós pagaremos por isso. Apenas nos deixa passar a pé, sem fazer nada mais".

18 But the king of Edom replied to him, "You may not pass through here. If you do, I will come with the sword to attack you." 19 Then the people of Israel said to him, "We will go along the highway. If we or our livestock drink your water, we will pay for it. Just let us walk through on foot, without doing anything else."

20 Mas o rei de Edom respondeu: "Tu não poderás passar". Desse modo, o rei de Edom veio contra Israel com mão forte, com muitos soldados. 21 O rei de Edom se recusou a deixar Israel passar por sua fronteira. Por causa disso, Israel se afastou da terra de Edom.

20 But the king of Edom replied, "You may not pass through." So the king of Edom came against Israel with a strong hand with many soldiers. 21 The king of Edom refused to allow Israel to cross over their border. Because of this, Israel turned away from the land of Edom.

22 Assim, o povo partiu de Cades. O povo de Israel — toda a comunidade — chegou ao Monte Hor. 23 Yahweh falou a Moisés e Arão no Monte Hor, na fronteira do Edom dizendo: 24 "Arão será reunido ao seu povo, porque ele não entrará na terra que dei ao povo de Israel. Isto porque vos rebelastes contra a Minha palavra nas águas de Meribá.

22 So the people journeyed from Kadesh. The people of Israel, the whole community, came to Mount Hor. 23 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on Edom's border. He said, 24 "Aaron must be gathered to his people, for he will not enter the land that I have given to the people of Israel. This is because you both rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

25 Toma Arão e Eleazar, seu filho, e os leva para o Monte Hor. 26 Tira as roupas sacerdotais de Arão e coloca-as em Eleazer, seu filho. Arão morrerá e será reunido ao seu povo".

25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor. 26 Take Aaron's priestly garments off him and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron must die and be gathered to his people there."

27 Moisés fez como Yahweh lhe ordenou. Eles subiram o Monte Hor diante de toda a comunidade. 28 Moisés lhe tirou as roupas sacerdotais e as colocou em Eleazar, seu filho. Arão morreu no topo da montanha. E, então, Moisés e Eleazar desceram. 29 Quando toda a comunidade viu que Arão estava morto, a nação inteira chorou por ele durante trinta dias.

27 Moses did as Yahweh commanded. They went up Mount Hor in the sight of all the community. 28 Moses took Aaron's priestly garments off him and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down. 29 When all the community saw that Aaron was dead, the entire nation wept for Aaron for thirty days.
