1 Abimeleque, filho de Jerubaal, foi para os parentes de sua mãe em Siquém e para todo o clã da família de sua mãe e disse-lhes: 2 "Por favor, dizei isto para que todos os líderes em Siquém ouçam: 'Que é melhor para vós? Que todos os setenta filhos de Jerubaal dominem sobre vós, ou que somente um domine sobre vós?' Lembrai-vos de que eu sou vosso osso e vossa carne".

1 Abimelek son of Jerub-Baal went to his mother's relatives at Shechem and he said to them and to the whole clan of his mother's family, 2 "Please say this, so that all the leaders in Shechem may hear, 'Which is better for you, that all seventy sons of Jerub-Baal rule over you, or that just one rule over you?' Remember that I am your bone and your flesh."

3 Os parentes de sua mãe falaram por ele aos líderes de Siquém, e eles consentiram em seguir Abimeleque, porque disseram: "Ele é nosso irmão". 4 Deram-lhe setenta peças de prata tiradas da casa de Baal-Berite, e Abimeleque as usou para contratar homens inescrupulosos e imprudentes, e estes o seguiram.

3 His mother's relatives spoke for him to the leaders of Shechem, and they agreed to follow Abimelek, for they said, "He is our brother." 4 They gave him seventy pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-Berith, and Abimelek used the silver to hire worthless and reckless men, who traveled with him.

5 Abimeleque foi para a casa de seu pai em Ofra e, sobre uma pedra, ele assassinou os seus setenta irmãos, os filhos de Jerubaal. Somente Jotão, o filho mais novo de Jerubaal, sobreviveu, porque se escondeu. 6 Todos os líderes de Siquém e de Bete-Milo ajuntaram-se e fizeram Abimeleque rei, junto ao carvalho perto da coluna que está em Siquém.

5 Abimelek went to his father's house at Ophrah, and upon one stone he murdered his seventy brothers, the sons of Jerub-Baal. Only Jotham was left, the youngest son of Jerub-Baal, for he hid himself. 6 All the leaders of Shechem and Beth Millo came together and they went and made Abimelek king, beside the oak near the pillar which is in Shechem.

7 Quando Jotão foi avisado sobre isso, ele foi e ficou de pé no cume do monte Gerizim. Ele gritou, dizendo-lhes: "Ouvi-me vós, líderes de Siquém, a fim de que Deus vos ouça. 8 Certa vez, as árvores foram ungir um rei para si. Elas disseram para a oliveira: 'Reina sobre nós'.

7 When Jotham was told about this, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim. He shouted and said to them, "Listen to me, you leaders of Shechem, so that God may listen to you. 8 The trees once went out to anoint a king over them. For they said to the olive tree, 'Reign over us.'

9 Mas a oliveira lhes disse: 'Deveria eu deixar o meu azeite, o qual é usado para honrar deuses e homens, a fim de balançar de um lado para o outro sobre as outras árvores?'. 10 As árvores disseram para a figueira: 'Vem e reina sobre nós'. 11 Porém, a figueira lhes disse: 'Deveria eu deixar a minha doçura e o meu bom fruto, a fim de balançar de um lado para o outro sobre as outras árvores?'.

9 But the olive tree said to them, 'Should I give up my abundance, by which gods and men are honored, to sway over the other trees?' 10 The trees said to the fig tree, 'Come and reign over us.' 11 But the fig tree said to them, 'Should I give up my sweetness and my good fruit, just so I could return and sway over the other trees?'

12 As árvores disseram para a videira: 'Vem e reina sobre nós'. 13 A videira lhes disse: 'Deveria eu deixar o meu vinho novo, o qual alegra deuses e homens, a fim de balançar de um lado para o outro sobre as outras árvores?'. 14 Então, todas as árvores disseram ao espinheiro: ' Vem e reina sobre nós'.

12 The trees said to the vine, 'Come and reign over us.' 13 The vine said to them, 'Should I give up my new wine, which makes gods and mankind glad, and return and sway over the other trees?' 14 Then said all the trees to the thornbush, 'Come and reign over us.'

15 O espinheiro disse para as árvores: 'Se verdadeiramente quereis me ungir rei sobre vós, vinde e encontrai segurança debaixo da minha sombra. Do contrário, que do espinheiro saia fogo e queime os cedros do Líbano'. 16 Ora, será que agistes com verdade e honestidade, quando fizestes Abimeleque vosso rei? Será que agistes bem com Jerubaal e com a sua casa, como ele merecia?

15 The thornbush said to the trees, 'If you truly want to anoint me as king over you, then come and find refuge under my shade. If not, then let fire come out of the thornbush and let it burn up the cedars of Lebanon.' 16 Now therefore, if you have acted in truth and honesty, when you made Abimelek king, and if you have done well concerning Jerub-Baal and his house, and if you have punished him as he deserves—

17 Ora, meu pai lutou por vós, arriscando a própria vida, e vos resgatou das mãos dos midianitas. 18 Mas hoje vos levantastes contra a casa do meu pai e matastes os seus filhos, setenta pessoas, sobre uma pedra. Depois, fizestes Abimeleque, filho de sua serva, rei sobre os líderes de Siquém, por ser ele vosso parente.

17 and to think that my father fought for you, risked his life, and rescued you out of the hand of Midian— 18 but today you have risen up against my father's house and have killed his sons, seventy persons, upon one stone. Then you have made Abimelek, the son of his female servant, king over the leaders of Shechem, because he is your relative.

19 Se, de fato, agistes com honestidade e integridade com Jerubaal e a sua casa, então, alegrai-vos com Abimeleque, e que ele se alegre convosco. 20 Mas, se não, que de Abimeleque saia fogo e queime os homens de Siquém e de Bete-Milo, e que dos homens de Siquém e de Bete-Milo saia fogo para queimar Abimeleque". 21 Jotão fugiu e escapou, indo para Beer. Ele morou ali porque era longe de Abimeleque, seu irmão.

19 If you acted with faithfulness and integrity with Jerub-Baal and his house, then you should rejoice in Abimelek, and let him also rejoice in you. 20 But if not, let fire come out from Abimelek and burn up the men of Shechem and Beth Millo. Let fire come out from the men of Shechem and Beth Millo, to burn up Abimelek." 21 Jotham fled and ran away, and he went to Beer. He lived there because it was far away from Abimelek, his brother.

22 Abimeleque governou sobre Israel por três anos. 23 Deus enviou um espírito mau entre Abimeleque e os líderes de Siquém. Os líderes de Siquém traíram a confiança que Abimeleque tinha neles. 24 Deus fez isso para que a violência cometida contra os setenta filhos de Jerubaal fosse vingada, e Abimeleque, seu irmão, fosse responsabilizado pelo assassinato deles; e os homens de Siquém também fossem responsabilizados, porque o ajudaram a assassinar os seus irmãos.

22 Abimelek ruled over Israel for three years. 23 God sent an evil spirit between Abimelek and the leaders of Shechem. The leaders of Shechem betrayed the trust they had with Abimelek. 24 God did this so the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerub-Baal might be avenged and their blood be laid on Abimelek their brother, and the men of Shechem would be held responsible because they helped him murder his brothers.

25 Assim, os líderes de Siquém posicionaram homens para fazer emboscadas no alto das colinas. Eles roubavam todos os que passavam ao longo da estrada. E isso foi relatado a Abimeleque.

25 So the leaders of Shechem positioned men to lie in wait on the hilltops that they might ambush him, and they robbed all who passed by them along that road. This was reported to Abimelek.

26 Gaal, filho de Ebede, veio com seus parentes e estabeleceram-se em Siquém. Os líderes de Siquém confiaram nele. 27 Eles foram para o campo, colheram uvas dos vinhedos e as pisaram. Fizeram um festival na casa de seu deus, onde comeram e beberam, e amaldiçoaram Abimeleque.

26 Gaal son of Ebed came with his relatives and they went over to Shechem. The leaders of Shechem had confidence in him. 27 They went out into the field and gathered grapes from the vineyards, and they trampled on them. They held a festival in the house of their god, where they ate and drank, and they cursed Abimelek.

28 Gaal, filho de Ebede, disse: "Quem é Abimeleque, e quem é Siquém, que devemos servi-lo? Ele não é o filho de Jerubaal? E Zebul não é o seu oficial? Servi aos homens de Hamor, pai de Siquém! Por que deveríamos servir a Abimeleque? 29 Eu gostaria que este povo estivesse sob meu comando! Então, eu removeria Abimeleque. Eu diria para Abimeleque: 'Convoca todo o teu exército'".

28 Gaal son of Ebed, said, "Who is Abimelek, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerub-Baal? Is Zebul not his overseer? Serve the men of Hamor, Shechem's father! Why should we serve Abimelek? 29 I wish that this people were under my command! Then would I remove Abimelek. I would say to Abimelek, 'Call out all your army.'"

30 Quando Zebul, o oficial da cidade, ouviu as palavras de Gaal, filho de Ebede, acendeu-lhe a ira. 31 Ele, secretamente, enviou mensageiros para Abimeleque, dizendo: "Eis que Gaal, filho de Ebede, e seus parentes estão vindo para Siquém, e estão agitando a cidade contra ti.

30 When Zebul, the official of the city, heard the words of Gaal son of Ebed his anger was kindled. 31 He sent messengers to Abimelek in order to deceive, saying, "See, Gaal son of Ebed and his relatives are coming to Shechem, and they are stirring up the city against you.

32 Agora, levanta-te durante a noite, tu e teus soldados contigo, e preparai uma emboscada nos campos. 33 Então, pela manhã, ao nascer do sol, levanta-te cedo e faze um ataque repentino à cidade. Quando ele e o povo que estiver com ele saírem contra ti, faze a eles o que tu puderes".

32 Now, get up during the night, you and the soldiers with you, and prepare an ambush in the fields. 33 Then in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, rise early and make a raid on the city. When he and the people with him come out against you, do whatever you can to them."

34 Assim, Abimeleque levantou-se durante a noite, ele e todos os homens que estavam com ele, e fizeram uma emboscada contra Siquém, dividindo-se em quatro unidades. 35 Gaal, filho de Ebede, saiu e ficou de pé no portão de entrada da cidade. Abimeleque e os homens que estavam com ele saíram de seu esconderijo.

34 So Abimelek got up during the night, he and all the men who were with him, and they set an ambush against Shechem—dividing into four units. 35 Gaal son of Ebed went out and stood in the entrance of the city gate. Abimelek and the men who were with him came out of their hiding place.

36 Quando Gaal viu os homens, disse para Zebul: "Vê, homens estão descendo do alto dos montes!". Zebul disse-lhe: "Estás vendo as sombras dos montes como se fossem homens". 37 Gaal falou novamente: "Olha, homens estão descendo no meio da terra, e uma unidade está descendo do caminho do carvalho dos Adivinhos".

36 When Gaal saw the men, he said to Zebul, "See, men are coming down from the hilltops!" Zebul said to him, "You are seeing the shadows on the hills like they are men." 37 Gaal spoke again and said, "Look, men are coming down in the middle of the land, and one unit is coming by way of the oak of the diviners."

38 Então, Zebul lhe disse: "Onde estão agora tuas palavras orgulhosas, que diziam: 'Quem é Abimeleque, para que o sirvamos?'. Não são estes os homens que desprezaste? Sai agora e luta contra eles". 39 Gaal saiu liderando os homens de Siquém, e enfrentou Abimeleque. 40 Abimeleque o perseguiu, e Gaal fugiu dele. Muitos caíram com feridas mortais ao longo do caminho até o portão de entrada da cidade.

38 Then Zebul said to him, "Where are your proud words now, you who said, 'Who is Abimelek that we should serve him?' Are these not the men you despised? Go out now and fight against them." 39 Gaal went out and he was leading the men of Shechem, and he fought Abimelek. 40 Abimelek chased him, and Gaal fled before him. Many fell with deadly wounds before the entrance to the city gate.

41 Abimeleque ficou em Arumá; Zebul expulsou Gaal e seus parentes de Siquém. 42 No dia seguinte, o povo de Siquém saiu ao campo, e isso foi relatado a Abimeleque. 43 Ele tomou seu povo e o dividiu em três unidades, e fizeram uma emboscada nos campos. Ele olhou e viu o povo descendo da cidade. Ele os atacou e os matou.

41 Abimelek stayed in Arumah. Zebul forced Gaal and his relatives out of Shechem. 42 On the next day the people of Shechem went out into the field, and this was reported to Abimelek. 43 He took his people, divided them into three units, and they set an ambush in the fields. He looked and saw the people coming out from the city and he attacked and killed them.

44 Abimeleque e a unidade que estava com ele atacaram e bloquearam o portão de entrada da cidade. As outras duas unidades atacaram todos os que estavam no campo e os mataram. 45 Abimeleque lutou contra a cidade por todo aquele dia. Ele a tomou e matou o povo que estava ali. E derrubou seus muros e espalhou sal sobre ela.

44 Abimelek and the units that were with him attacked and blocked the entrance to the city gate. The other two units attacked all who were in the field and killed them. 45 Abimelek fought against the city all that day. He captured the city, and killed the people who were in it. He broke down the city walls and sowed it with salt.

46 Quando todos os líderes da torre de Siquém ouviram isso, entraram na fortaleza da casa de El-Berite. 47 Quando Abimeleque foi avisado de que os líderes haviam se reunido na torre de Siquém,

46 When all the leaders of the tower of Shechem heard of it, they entered the stronghold of the house of El-Berith. 47 Abimelek was told that all the leaders had gathered together at the tower of Shechem.

48 subiu ao Monte Zalmon com todos os homens que estavam com ele. Então, pegou um machado e cortou os galhos, colocou-os em seus ombros e ordenou aos homens: "O que me vistes fazer, fazei depressa também". 49 Cada um cortou um galho e seguiu Abimeleque. Eles os empilharam junto às paredes da torre e atearam fogo. Assim, todo o povo da torre de Siquém também morreu, cerca de mil homens e mulheres.

48 Abimelek went up to Mount Zalmon, he and all the men who were with him. Abimelek took an ax and cut off branches. He put it on his shoulder and ordered the men with him, "What you have seen me do, hurry and do as I have done." 49 So every one cut off branches and followed Abimelek. They piled them against the wall of the tower, and they set the stronghold on fire, so that all the people of the tower of Shechem also died, about a thousand men and women.

50 Então, Abimeleque foi para Tebez, sitiou-a, e a conquistou. 51 Mas havia uma torre forte na cidade. Todos os homens, mulheres e todos os líderes da cidade fugiram para lá. Trancaram-se e subiram até o terraço da torre.

50 Then Abimelek went to Thebez, and he encamped against Thebez and captured it. 51 But there was a strong tower in the city, and all the men and women and all the leaders of the city fled to it and shut themselves in. Then they went up to the roof of the tower.

52 Abimeleque foi até a torre e a atacou. Mas, quando ele se aproximou da porta da torre para incendiá-la, 53 uma mulher jogou sobre sua cabeça uma pedra de moinho que quebrou-lhe o crânio. 54 Rapidamente ele chamou o jovem que era o seu escudeiro e disse-lhe: "Desembainha tua espada e mata-me, assim, ninguém dirá sobre mim: Uma mulher o matou”. O jovem o transpassou, e ele morreu.

52 Abimelek came to the tower and fought against it, and he came up near to the door of the tower to burn it. 53 But a woman dropped an upper millstone on Abimelek's head and it crushed his skull. 54 Then he called urgently to the young man who was his armor-bearer, and said to him, "Draw your sword and kill me, so no one will say about me, 'A woman killed him.'" So his young man pierced him through, and he died.

55 Quando os homens de Israel viram que Abimeleque estava morto, foram para casa. 56 Assim, Deus vingou o mal que Abimeleque havia feito ao seu pai, ao assassinar os seus setenta irmãos. 57 Deus fez com que todo o mal dos homens de Siquém retornasse sobre suas próprias cabeças, e veio sobre eles a maldição de Jotão, filho de Jerubaal.

55 When the men of Israel saw that Abimelek was dead, they went home. 56 So God avenged the evil of Abimelek that he did to his father by slaying his seventy brothers. 57 God made all the evil of the men of Shechem turn back on their own heads and on them came the curse of Jotham son of Jerub-Baal.
