1 Depois de alguns dias, durante o tempo da colheita de trigo, Sansão pegou um cabrito e foi visitar sua esposa. Ele disse para si mesmo: "Eu irei ao quarto da minha esposa". Mas o pai dela não lhe permitiu entrar. 2 O pai dela disse: "Eu realmente pensei que tu a odiavas, então, entreguei-a ao teu amigo. Sua irmã mais nova é mais bonita do que ela, não achas? Toma-a em seu lugar".

1 After some days, during the time of wheat harvest, Samson took a young goat and went to visit his wife. He said to himself, "I will go to my wife's room." But her father would not allow him to go in. 2 Her father said, "I really thought you hated her, so I gave her to your friend. Her younger sister is more beautiful than she is, is she not? Take her instead."

3 Sansão disse-lhe: "Desta vez, serei inocente se fizer algum mal aos filisteus". 4 Sansão foi e pegou trezentas raposas e as amarrou juntas pelas caudas, em pares. Então, pegou tochas e prendeu-as no meio de cada par de caudas.

3 Samson said to them, "This time I will be innocent in regard to the Philistines when I hurt them." 4 Samson went and caught three hundred foxes and he tied together each pair, tail to tail. Then he took torches and tied them in the middle of each pair of tails.

5 Quando ele pôs fogo nas tochas, soltou as raposas dentro da plantação dos filisteus e elas colocaram fogo tanto nos feixes de grãos quanto nos cereais que havia no campo. As vinhas e os olivais também foram queimados. 6 Os filisteus perguntaram: "Quem fez isso?". Disseram-lhes: "Sansão, o genro do timnita, fez isso porque ele tomou a esposa de Sansão e a deu ao seu amigo". Então, os filisteus foram e a queimaram com o seu pai.

5 When he had set the torches on fire, he let the foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and they set fire to both the stacked grain and the grain standing in the field, along with the vineyards and the olive orchards. 6 The Philistines asked, "Who did this?" They were told, "Samson, the Timnite's son-in-law, did this because the Timnite took Samson's wife and gave her to his friend." Then the Philistines went and burned up her and her father.

7 Sansão disse-lhes: "Se é isso o que vós fazeis, eu terei a minha vingança contra vós e depois de feita, pararei”. 8 Ele os atacou e cortou-lhes em pedaços, quadril e coxa, com uma grande matança. Depois, desceu e foi habitar em uma caverna na rocha de Etã.

7 Samson said to them, "If this is what you do, I will get my revenge against you, and after that is done, I will stop." 8 Then he cut them to pieces, hip and thigh, with a great slaughter. Then he went down and lived in a cave in the cliff of Etam.

9 Então, os filisteus subiram e prepararam-se para a batalha em Judá e posicionaram o seu exército em Leí. 10 Os homens de Judá disseram: "Por que viestes nos atacar?". Eles responderam: "Estamos atacando para capturar Sansão e fazermos a ele o que ele fez conosco".

9 Then the Philistines came up and encamped in Judah and spread out in Lehi. 10 The men of Judah said, "Why have you come up against us?" They said, "We have come up so we may capture Samson, and do to him as he has done to us."

11 Então, três mil homens de Judá desceram à caverna na rocha de Etã e disseram a Sansão: "Tu não sabes que os filisteus dominam sobre nós? O que é isso que fizeste conosco?". Sansão respondeu-lhes: "Eles fizeram comigo e então eu fiz com eles".

11 Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cave in the cliff of Etam, and they said to Samson, "Do you not know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What is this you have done to us?" Samson said to them, "They did to me, and so I have done to them."

12 Disseram a Sansão: "Viemos aqui para te amarrar e te entregar nas mãos dos filisteus". Sansão disse-lhes: "Jurai-me que vós não me matareis". 13 Responderam-lhe: "Só iremos amarrar-te com cordas e te entregar a eles. Prometemos que não te mataremos". Então, amarraram-no com duas cordas novas e o tiraram da rocha.

12 They said to Samson, "We have come down to tie you up and give you into the hands of the Philistines." Samson said to them, "Swear to me that you will not kill me yourselves." 13 They said to him, "No, we will only tie you with ropes and hand you over to them. We promise we will not kill you." Then they tied him up with two new ropes and brought him up from the rock.

14 Quando Sansão chegou a Leí, os filisteus vieram gritando assim que o encontraram. Mas o Espírito de Yahweh veio sobre ele de tal maneira que as cordas em seus braços tornaram-se como linho queimado e caíram de suas mãos.

14 When he came to Lehi, the Philistines came shouting as they met him. Then Yahweh's Spirit came on him with power. The ropes on his arms became like burnt flax, and they fell off his hands.

15 Sansão encontrou uma queixada de jumento ainda fresca e, apanhando-a, matou com ela mil homens. 16 E disse: "Com a queixada de um jumento, montões sobre montões; com a queixada de um jumento matei mil homens".

15 Samson found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, and he picked it up and killed a thousand men with it. 16 Samson said, "With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps upon heaps, with the jawbone of a donkey I have killed a thousand men."

17 Quando Sansão terminou de falar, lançou fora a queixada e chamou o lugar de Ramate-Leí. 18 Ele estava com muita sede e clamou a Yahweh, dizendo: "Tu deste esta grande vitória ao teu servo. Todavia, agora eu morrerei de sede e cairei nas mãos desses incircuncisos?".

17 When Samson finished speaking, he threw away the jawbone, and he called the place Ramath Lehi. 18 Samson was very thirsty and called on Yahweh and said, "You have given this great victory to your servant. But now will I die of thirst and fall into the hands of those who are uncircumcised?"

19 E Deus abriu uma fonte em um lugar que fica em Leí, e saiu água. Quando ele bebeu, sua força retornou e ele reviveu. Então, ele chamou aquele lugar de En-Hacoré e está em Leí até hoje. 20 Sansão julgou Israel nos dias dos filisteus durante vinte anos.

19 God split open the hollow place that is at Lehi and water came out. When he drank, his strength returned and he revived. So he called the name of that place En Hakkore, and it is at Lehi to this day. 20 Samson judged Israel in the days of the Philistines for twenty years.
